Chapter 308 The Drowned Water Buffalo

Lu Fan stared intently at the murky water, where large raindrops pounded, splashing up layers of water that blurred his vision.

A massive object emerged faintly from the rain.

Upon closer inspection, they saw a bulging bison carcass slowly drifting towards them with the rushing water, now only twenty or thirty meters away.

The wind howled, carrying rain, as if it wanted to disrupt the whole world.

The bison carcass swayed from side to side like an out-of-control balloon as it was washed by the water, sometimes flipping over and sometimes sinking.

Judging from the state and location of the body, it was most likely swept down from a great height by a torrent rushing down the mountain.

Upon seeing this, Lu Fan's eyes lit up, and he almost jumped up.

Beef!!

Although almost anything else has several times the protein content of beef, with beef right in front of me, how could I possibly let it go?

Unable to contain his excitement, he turned sharply to look at Ling Yue and said eagerly, "Brother Ling, there's a bison carcass outside. How about we go and get it?"

Ling Yue looked in the direction he was pointing, and saw that the bison carcass looked particularly sinister under the dim sky and the torrential rain, as if it were a mysterious object that had drifted from hell.

After exchanging a glance, the two nodded, their eyes revealing determination and excitement.

Without the slightest hesitation, the two acted swiftly.

They took the thick rope and quickly took off their clothes, leaving them only in shorts.

Ling Yue slung the rope over his shoulder, turned to look at Lu Fan, and shouted, "Are you ready? This water's not shallow, let's be careful!"

Lu Fan took a deep breath and replied, "Alright, Brother Ling, let's go!"

After saying that, the two plunged into the icy, bone-chilling water.

The water was so cold it felt like it was being cut by a knife; Lu Fan couldn't help but shiver as soon as he touched the surface.

The sudden transition from a warm indoor environment to cold water was quite uncomfortable for my body; my teeth even started chattering uncontrollably.

An Lan stood on the shore, clutching the hem of her clothes tightly with both hands, her face full of worry as she urged the two, "You two must be careful, and come back immediately if anything happens!"

The two cautiously made their way towards the bison carcass in the water, each step incredibly difficult.

Various things floated in the floodwater, including thick logs that had been broken off, resembling giant spiked clubs.

The tangled branches stretched out their claws as if to grab them; the murky soil stirred up the water, making it so muddy that it was almost impossible to see ahead.

The debris, carried by the current, kept hitting their bodies, causing them pain.

Moreover, the rain continued to pour down, like a dense rain of arrows, severely obstructing their vision.

Lu Fan struggled to raise his hand and place it on his forehead, trying to block the rain that kept pouring into his eyes, but he felt increasingly nervous.

He always felt that something sticky and slippery might suddenly jump out from the bottomless water at any moment.

It could be a cold water snake, its tongue flicking, silently coiling around their ankles; it could be a crocodile lying in wait, its jaws wide open, ready to strike a fatal blow at any moment; and of course, no one could say for sure whether they would encounter a ravenous shark, which would truly be a desperate situation…

Lu Fan shook his head vigorously to shake off these wild thoughts, and followed closely in Ling Yue's footsteps, taking each step with utmost caution.

They finally arrived safely at the buffalo carcass.

The cow's belly was bulging high, like a balloon filled with air that could burst at any moment.

Its limbs were outstretched, and its four feet were up in the water, looking both comical and somewhat eerie, as if telling the story of its tragic fate.

Lu Fan couldn't help but complain, "Hey, what a mess this is, I never thought the water buffalo would actually drown."

Ling Yue didn't reply, but instead frowned and carefully examined the corpse.

He discovered that the cow's hind leg had obvious fracture marks, with the bone protruding from the flesh, and there were also some abrasions on its body, with the hair at the wounds stained red with blood.

As Ling Yue examined the animal, he speculated, "I think this ox probably broke its leg first, making it unable to move or run, and then it drowned in this flood. Poor thing, it must have struggled for a long time before it died."

Lu Fan listened to Ling Yue's words and couldn't help but feel a little emotional, but his hands didn't stop moving.

He cautiously poked the cow's belly with his hand, worried that it might suddenly explode like in the videos he had seen before, blowing them both away.

The image of the hyena being blown away by the elephant carcass was still vivid in his mind. He didn't want to experience such a "thrilling" thing himself; just thinking about it sent chills down his spine.

Seeing this, Ling Yue smiled and shook his head, comforting him, "Don't worry, it's not that serious."

After saying that, he took out a sharp dagger and carefully cut open the cowhide.

As the dagger pierced through, a fresh meaty aroma wafted out. There was no strange smell, and the meat was very fresh, indicating that the cow had only recently died.

The two immediately took out a rope, skillfully tied it to the cow's leg, and used the buoyancy of the water to pull it back little by little.

An Lan kept a close eye on them from the shore, not daring to blink even once.

Seeing Lu Fan and Ling Yue pull the cow back, she couldn't help but show a worried expression and shouted, "You two hurry up and get out of the water! Don't stay in the water for too long!"

Soon, Lu Fan and Ling Yue climbed the stone steps of the courtyard gate, wiped the water mixed with rain and sweat from their faces, and without taking a break, began to process the beef using the puddles at the gate.

The two men skillfully gutted the bison, and the blood and entrails were washed away by the water, turning the water surface bright red.

An Lan watched the two of them busy in the rain and wanted to find something to shield them from the rain.

Lu Fan quickly called out, "An Lan, hurry back to your room. Don't get caught in the rain, or you'll catch a cold. We'll be done soon!"

After saying that, he sped up the process of cutting the beef, the knife in his hand gleaming coldly in the rain.

Just as Lu Fan was concentrating on processing the beef, he cut open the cow's stomach and suddenly found a card in a pile of fresh cow dung.

He instantly showed a look of disgust, his features scrunched up, and he almost threw up his dinner from the night before.

However, he still forced himself to endure the nausea, pulled the card out of the cow dung, and rinsed it repeatedly in the nearby puddle.

Then he shouted at An Lan, "An Lan, come out and get the card! My hands are covered in blood, it's inconvenient for me!"

An Lan quickly ran out and took the card.

Lu Fan and Ling Yue continued processing the beef, their knives flashing as raindrops pelted them, but neither of them seemed to notice.
