Zhuang Zhou dreamed he was a butterfly, confused by the dream. Wang Lun participates in a wilderness survival challenge and is placed in the same team with the person he likes.
From then on, ...
Liu Ruoxi also brought an empty basket and two pots. She planned to fill the pots with water after processing the fish and take them back to cook lunch.
The four of them worked together to process all the fish, one fish every few minutes, at an incredible speed. It took them over an hour to finish. They put the fish in one basket and the inedible entrails in another, intending to use some as bait in the traps. The rest they would save to release into the sea after their afternoon fishing trip to attract more fish.
The idea originated with Li Ling and Liu Ruoling on the raft. Wang Lun considered it and, finding it highly feasible, agreed without much thought, and they successfully implemented it. However, they seemed to have forgotten one thing: previously, when they baited the traps and fish baskets, it was based on their own safety and the amount was relatively small, unlikely to attract any particular marine life. But now, the amount was quite large, and dumping it might attract some larger marine creatures. However, at this moment, they didn't think about this problem; instead, they packed their things, shouldered their baskets, and headed towards the camp.
Upon arriving at the campsite, Wang Lun asked Liu Ruoxi to cook, while the task of hanging the fish was left to Wang Lun and the other two. Liu Ruoxi was puzzled; it was still about an hour before lunch, quite early. Wang Lun explained, "After lunch, we'll go to the banana grove where Li Ling and the others encountered before and pick some bananas to take back." When Li Ling and Liu Ruoling heard that they were going to the same beach as before, both wanted to go, and even Liu Ruoxi was somewhat interested. Seeing this, Wang Lun, who had originally planned for just the two of them to go, decided to let them all go as well; after all, it was near the sea, so nothing should happen.
When Wang Lun said they could all go, the three girls were very excited. Liu Ruoxi quickly started a fire to cook. To make the meal faster and prepare in advance, she used two pots to cook rice. Both pots contained stewed fish; there were almost no wild vegetables left, but she planned to save the remaining ones for tomorrow morning.
Li Ling and Liu Ruoling both sped up their fish hanging baskets much faster. As Li Ling hung the baskets, she suddenly remembered that they had all gone out that afternoon—what would happen to the fish? So she asked. Liu Ruoxi, hearing this, said, "Maybe I won't go, you guys go." Hearing Liu Ruoxi's words, Liu Ruoling was somewhat tempted, but still said, "Since sister isn't going, then I won't go either." She finished speaking with a hint of sadness.
Wang Lun said, "Let's all go. It'll only take us two or three hours round trip, and it's the hottest time of day, so there shouldn't be any problems. At worst, we can spend some time moving all the fish into the shelter." Li Ling said, "Then let's take some time to move them into the shelter, to prevent the seabirds from eating them." Liu Ruoxi and Liu Ruoling both agreed. So the four of them began moving the fish, carrying them all into the shelter.
The four of them worked for nearly an hour before they were able to move all the fish into the shelter, and even the seafood and seaweed that were drying outside were brought inside.
After finishing these tasks, the four of them began to eat lunch.
After quickly finishing the pot of food, Wang Lun took the pot to the stream to wash it, then fetched a pot of water, boiled some for drinking on the way, and put it on the campfire before heading back to eat.
After the meal, some washed the pots and pans, some filled water containers, and some tidied up the tools. Everyone had their own things to do, and they all wanted to go and return as soon as possible so as not to affect the afternoon fishing and the evening beachcombing.
The four of them quickly finished getting ready to go out. This time, they only carried two baskets, because Wang Lun thought they probably wouldn't have much to gain, so they only carried two baskets. In fact, they might not even be able to fill the baskets before they had to come back.
Wang Lun closed the door and took the three girls to the stream. Along the way, he broke off a leafy branch for each of them and had them weave it into a ring to wear as a hat. Wang Lun made one for each of them as well.
Upon reaching the stream, Wang Lun untied the straw rope from the large tree, and then the four of them worked together to push the raft into the water. Wang Lun went first onto the raft, and then, punting, he helped the others onto it. One by one, they were all quickly on the raft. Then, Wang Lun punted alone while the other three found a place to sit. After all, the sun was still very strong, and it was best to minimize their energy expenditure.
Besides, it would be much safer to sit on the raft. Wang Lun poled the raft along the coastline. Along the way, Li Ling and the other two sat on the raft, playing in the water, quite enjoying themselves. Wang Lun, on the other hand, was exhausted. It was hot, sunny, and tiring, but Wang Lun had no choice; he couldn't very well let the three of them pole the raft.
Soon, Wang Lun rowed the raft to the bay. Li Ling said, "Just cross this bay, and we'll be there." Wang Lun carefully observed the waters around the bay and felt there shouldn't be any problems, but he still asked, "You all know how to swim, right?" The three confirmed. Li Ling had learned to swim while working out. The Liu sisters, Liu Ruoxi and Liu Ruoxi, had swimming lessons in college.
Knowing they could all swim, Wang Lun felt relieved and began paddling the raft along the protruding rock face. However, what the other three didn't know was that Wang Lun himself couldn't swim at all, not even a dog paddle. As for why Wang Lun asked that question, he wanted to give Li Ling and the others some hope of escape, and also to see if anyone else besides himself couldn't swim. If so, he could say that so-and-so couldn't swim, and let them do the rescue, thus avoiding going into the water himself. As for himself, he seemed to have forgotten to consider that.
It took Wang Lun and his companions over twenty minutes to finally cross the rock wall and reach the adjacent shore. There were absolutely no signs of danger along the way, such as underwater whirlpools or reefs. The reason it took over twenty minutes was entirely because it was their first time traversing this area, and they were unfamiliar with the surroundings. Otherwise, they could have reached the beach in just a few minutes.
Upon reaching the beach, Wang Lun and his companions first secured the raft before beginning their exploration of the coastline. Wang Lun had Li Ling and Liu Ruoling lead the way to the banana grove they had previously visited. Li Ling and Liu Ruoling led the way, with Wang Lun bringing up the rear and Liu Ruoxi walking in the middle.
