Zhuang Zhou dreamed he was a butterfly, confused by the dream. Wang Lun participates in a wilderness survival challenge and is placed in the same team with the person he likes.

From then on, ...

Chapter 75 The Typhoon Arrives

Time flies when you're busy. It got dark, and Wang Lun looked out the window; it was still raining. So he closed the window, got off the kang (heated brick bed), and started preparing dinner. Since he was idle anyway, he figured he might as well eat, then weave straw sandals. When he didn't feel like weaving anymore, he'd go to sleep.

Wang Lun lit the stove; there was still water in the pot, so he just waited for it to boil before adding the wild vegetables and fish. They were eating fish again now; there was no other way, fish was plentiful, and they wanted to eat as much as possible to prevent it from spoiling later.

The wild vegetable stew with fish tasted just as good as ever. Neither of them were picky; they each ate several bowls and were completely full. Wang Lun went to wash the pot, while Li Ling rested for a while. After all, she had been weaving straw sandals all day and was already quite tired of it.

After Wang Lun returned, the two sat by the fire pit, each with a stick, playing a simple, childish game. They played for almost an hour. Li Ling stopped them, insisting they continue weaving straw sandals. They needed to finish the last few pairs; if they could finish today, they would have woven two pairs, adding to the three pairs they had already made, making five pairs in total—enough for a few days. Tomorrow they would make two or three more pairs, enough to last them for about a month without weaving any more sandals.

After finishing their straw sandals, the two felt too tired to continue and lay down to sleep. It wasn't very early, but much earlier than usual. Lying on the kang (heated brick bed), they chatted as they waited for sleep to come their way. Before long, they both fell asleep while chatting.

In the middle of the night, while all the athletes were fast asleep, the typhoon passed through. The wind howled, the trees swayed, and some thinner trees were snapped in two by the gale. Some shrubs were blown into the air and landed in the distance.

Wang Lun and his companion were awakened by the sound of the window banging against the window frame. Wang Lun pushed the window open forcefully, only to find it pitch black outside, with a strong wind blowing in, carrying some raindrops. Wang Lun quickly closed the window and secured it. He then got off the kang (a heated brick bed) and barricaded the door to prevent the wind from blowing into the room.

After closing the doors and windows, Wang Lun, seeing the scene, decided to wait a while before going to sleep, just in case something happened in the house and someone awake could notice immediately. He told Li Ling to continue sleeping, but Li Ling tossed and turned for a long time, unable to fall asleep. She got up and sat with Wang Lun by the fire pit.

Seeing that no one was going to sleep, Wang Lun took out a handful of dry grass and handed it to Li Ling. Since she wasn't going to sleep, he suggested she continue weaving straw sandals. This method worked; Li Ling wove for less than half an hour before getting sleepy. She put down the straw rope she was twisting and went back to bed. Wang Lun smiled and continued weaving the straw sandals.

About half an hour later, Wang Lun had prepared all the straw ropes. He got up and listened at the door; the wind was still blowing outside, and quite strongly. Turning back to the hearth, he saw Li Ling huddled on the kang (heated brick bed), covered with her own coat but still feeling cold. So Wang Lun covered her with his own coat, then with the kneaded sheepskin, before returning to the hearth to warm himself. To be honest, it was still a bit cold; even just a short while ago, Wang Lun felt a chill, so he added some more firewood to the hearth and continued weaving straw sandals.

Meanwhile, at the Liu sisters' treehouse, the roof had been blown away by the strong winds, and the two sisters had gotten soaked in the rain. Fortunately, the base of the treehouse hadn't been blown away. Liu Ruoxi was woken up when the roof started to loosen and tried to reinforce it, but to no avail. Seeing that the roof was increasingly beyond saving, she had to wake Liu Ruoling. The two of them moved the campfire, food, and other supplies down to the ground. They sat by the campfire, prepared to spend the rest of their time like this.

As luck would have it, misfortune never comes singly. The roof was blown away, and although the base of the treehouse remained, it wasn't very waterproof. This meant that while it was pouring rain outside, it was also drizzling inside. The two quickly moved their food to their previous makeshift shelter. It must be said that the reinforced shelter was somewhat waterproof; at least it wouldn't leak in the drizzle, but there was still some seepage. However, the shelter was small, and with the food and other supplies piled inside, it was impossible for both of them to stay inside at the same time. Plus, someone had to keep watch at night, so they had to stay under the treehouse. They took turns, managing to hold out until dawn, though it was quite tough.

Wu Jing's situation was much better than the Liu sisters'. After being awakened by the strong wind, Wu Jing and her companion got up and secured the door. One of them stayed by the campfire to keep watch while the other went back to sleep. After all, the cave was sheltered from the wind and rain, making their stay quite comfortable.

However, the other cave wasn't so lucky. Team 88, Hao Yun and his group, had only moved in two days ago, and the door was barely in place, not yet reinforced. It was blown down by the strong wind. Hao Yun, who was sleeping outside, was woken by the wind and rain and quickly woke Han Yiyi. Actually, there was no need to wake her; Han Yiyi was already awake. Together, they managed to put the door back up and reinforce it. Although it was still a bit drafty, the immediate priority was to put out the fire. The cave wasn't large to begin with, and the campfire was right at the entrance, directly buried under the collapsed door. So Han Yiyi went to fight the fire, while Hao Yun immediately chopped some branches in the rain to block up the larger openings, then chopped more and dragged them into the cave to block up the rest. As for Han Yiyi, since the fire had been smothered, only a few embers remained warm. She grabbed a handful of dry grass, placed the embers inside, and used her thin body to block the wind blowing in. She then blew hard, finally managing to ignite the fire. She added some small twigs. Slowly, as Hao Yun sealed the entrance, the fire blazed. Hao Yun was soaked to the bone, so he told Han Yiyi to go to sleep. He then put on his coat, took off everything else, and dried himself over the campfire before putting it back on.

Some of the other shelters weren't reinforced, and some were even destroyed by the wind. Zhao Yulong managed to endure the rain for a while in these leaky shelters, but eventually succumbed and had to withdraw from the competition. He was among them. Zhao Yulong had originally planned to take shelter in Qian Xiaoxiao's shelter, but it was small, with only a fire, some dry firewood, and food. Even Qian Xiaoxiao herself had to sleep against the pile of firewood. So Zhao Yulong had to endure the rain in his own shelter. If he could hold out until dawn, Qian Xiaoxiao would discard some firewood and share the shelter with him. She had already told Zhao Yulong this, but he wanted to come in now, as there was simply no room. Zhao Yulong even considered throwing some firewood into the rain, but Qian Xiaoxiao stopped him with a shovel. From the look in Qian Xiaoxiao's eyes, Zhao Yulong knew that if he dared to touch the firewood, she would definitely chop him up with the shovel. Zhao Yulong hesitated, enduring the leaky shelter for a while before finally giving up. However, before leaving, he demolished his own shelter and kicked Qian Xiaoxiao's several times. Fortunately, the rescue team arrived quickly; otherwise, Qian Xiaoxiao would have definitely rushed out and attacked him. All of this was clearly captured on camera, allowing almost all viewers to see Zhao Yulong's ugly face. While Qian Xiaoxiao also had some faults, the main problem lay with Zhao Yulong. The audience was fully aware of the situation.
