Chapter 96 Pine Needle Hair Wash

On the last trip, Liu Ruoling had barely entered the camp when she immediately dropped the two bundles of branches she was carrying and collapsed to the ground. Wang Lun heard her movement, glanced back, then turned and continued forward, carefully placing the branches down. He walked over to help her up, but Liu Ruoling was simply too weak to move. Exhausted, Wang Lun said, "Let me help you up; sit on the bench over there." Liu Ruoling shook her head, as if to say, "Leave me alone, I'll sit here." Wang Lun had no choice but to hug her from behind and drag her to the bench, also making sure she leaned against the table to prevent her from falling. He then went inside to pour her a bowl of warm water and placed it on the table.

After finishing these tasks, Wang Lun moved the two bundles of branches that Liu Ruoling had left behind to a pile. Then he went over and sat down at the table to rest.

Wang Lun rested for more than ten minutes, then went to the back to get an entrenching tool and started digging a hole. Since it was all muddy ground, it was relatively easy to dig, but progress wasn't very noticeable. Wang Lun dug until dark before finishing one hole. Midway through, Liu Ruoling came by, but there were no more entrenching tools left, so Wang Lun asked her to collect stones, putting the flat stones in one pile and the rest in another. The flat stones would be used to pave the bathroom and shower room floors, and the rest would be used to line the rabbit pen to prevent the rabbits from burrowing inside.

Standing beside the dug pit, Wang Lun suddenly felt that they might not need so many pools; after all, these things were too difficult to dig. Can you imagine? Wang Lun dug non-stop for over three hours, only managing to dig one pool. The remaining two would take a whole day! Liu Ruoling walked over and said, "Come on, it's getting dark, we should go back." Wang Lun said, "Do you think we need three pools?" Liu Ruoling looked at Wang Lun and said, "Who knows? It's up to you." Then she pulled Wang Lun towards the camp.

Back home, Wang Lun was still thinking, but the others assumed he was too tired to talk, so they kept their voices down. Soon, dinner was ready, and the four of them sat on the kang (heated brick bed) and began to eat.

After dinner, Wang Lun went to bed early, and Liu Ruoling followed suit to rest. Li Ling and the other woman washed the dishes and, upon returning, found the two already resting. So they put down the dishes, closed the door, and also went to rest on the kang (heated brick bed). After all, they were both quite tired.

The next day, Wang Lun got up very early. After getting up, he picked up his entrenching tool and continued digging. He didn't think about anything else. Since he had already made the plan, he might as well do his best. After all, he couldn't go against his conscience. Although this was a deserted island with no one else around, he still had his own bottom line.

When Liu Ruoling woke up, she got off the kang (a heated brick bed) and realized someone was missing—Wang Lun! She only thought about it briefly and then dismissed it, figuring he might have gone to the toilet. So she grabbed the iron pot and prepared to go out to wash up and fetch water. Just as she stepped outside, she heard a sound coming from the lawn below. Following the sound, Liu Ruoling saw Wang Lun digging a hole at the edge of the earthen cliff. Liu Ruoling said, "You got up so early just to dig a hole?" Hearing Liu Ruoling's voice, Wang Lun looked up and saw her above him, saying, "I woke up early, had nothing to do, so I came first." Liu Ruoling said, "Then I'll come too." Wang Lun refused, saying, "Never mind, I'll be right back." Hearing Wang Lun's words, Liu Ruoling believed him and went to wash up.

After Liu Ruoling finished washing up, Wang Lun still hadn't returned. So Liu Ruoling put the pot of water she had prepared back into the house, took out another entrenching tool, and went to dig with Wang Lun.

When Wang Lun saw Liu Ruoling arrive, he said, "Didn't I say I'd be back soon? What are you doing here?" Liu Ruoling replied, "Digging a hole." Wang Lun realized he'd really run into her and said, "Okay, let's go back." So he had no choice but to stop what he was doing, pick up his shovel, and start walking back. Liu Ruoling smiled at this and followed him back. After all, digging a hole was out of the question; he hadn't even eaten breakfast that morning. Her main purpose in coming down was to get Wang Lun to go back. After all, there was so much to do, it couldn't all be done in a day. He needed to rest and not exhaust himself. If he was exhausted, where would he find such a powerful patron? And even if he did, they might not let him rely on them. So, protecting that powerful patron started with me.

Wang Lun handed the shovel to Liu Ruoling by the pool and then washed up himself. Meanwhile, Li Ling and Liu Ruoxi started cooking, as they both knew they were responsible for breakfast and needed to get up on time. However, they missed Liu Ruoling; she had just left when the two of them got up.

Seeing that Liu Ruoling had brought back the water, Li Ling started a fire, while Liu Ruoxi took the fish and wild vegetables to the pool to wash up and wash the vegetables.

When Wang Lun returned and was washing up, Li Ling came out of the house. The two happened to meet. Li Ling said, "Going to work so early? Don't overwork yourself." Wang Lun said, "It's okay, I'll just consider it exercise in the morning." Li Ling rolled her eyes and said, "My hair is getting a bit long, can you cut it for me?" Wang Lun looked at her hair, which only reached her neck, and said, "It's not long." Li Ling looked at Wang Lun and said, "It's hard to wash, it's better to cut it shorter." Wang Lun said, "Wash? What are you going to use to wash your hair?" Li Ling said, "What else could it be, of course, charcoal." Wang Lun said, "Try pine needles, I heard that pine needle water works well for washing hair." Li Ling quickly asked, "How do you do it?" Wang Lun said, "I think you boil it, and then use the water that has been boiled with pine needles to wash your hair, I've heard someone mention it." Li Ling looked at Wang Lun suspiciously and said, "Could it be your girlfriend?" Wang Lun rolled his eyes at her and said, "What girlfriend? I've been working for so many years and I've never had one." Li Ling didn't believe him and said, "Then she must be your ex-girlfriend." Wang Lun said, "I've only had one relationship, you know that, right?" After saying that, he left, ignoring Li Ling.

Watching Wang Lun walk away, Li Ling became increasingly convinced that this guy definitely had a girlfriend before, but he just wouldn't say it. She was determined to get the information out of him when the opportunity arose. What she didn't know was that Wang Lun left because he was afraid Li Ling would realize that the person he liked was right in front of him, and that he had always liked her.

After washing up, Li Ling returned and told Liu Ruoxi and her sister about washing their hair with pine needles. The two sisters were immediately excited. After all, they had been washing their hair with charcoal for so long, which didn't get it very clean. Finally, there was another way to wash their hair! If they weren't cooking, they probably would have gone to pick pine needles. But they were already pretty much done with it; none of them were really focused on cooking. Luckily, all the ingredients were in the pot, just waiting to be cooked.
