Sun Hai checked the time on his phone; it was already 11 p.m.
He took the empty bowls and chopsticks into the kitchen and placed them in the sink.
It's already late at night, but the city outside the window is still brightly lit and bustling with traffic, a stark contrast to the quiet atmosphere in Sun Hai's home—it's like two different worlds.
Sun Hai finished washing the dishes, shook the water off his hands, and walked out of the kitchen.
Hera, however, had somehow returned to her previous position, sprawled on the sofa like a kitten, still clutching the blanket Sun Hai had prepared for her to sleep in.
Sun Hai smiled helplessly.
"Are you asleep?" Sun Hai gently nudged Hera.
Hera didn't respond; she simply opened her closed eyes.
"I see you're sleepy, so I'll just carry you back to bed," Sun Hai said to Hera, but it sounded more like he was talking to himself.
Sun Hai gently lifted Hera up in a princess carry.
Hera didn't resist and just watched as he carried her into the bedroom.
They put Hera on the bed and then covered her with the blanket.
"I won't let you take off your clothes. If you're hot, just take the blanket off yourself."
Having done all this, Sun Hai strode to the door, opened it, and walked out.
Before closing the door again, Sun Hai glanced at Hera one more time and saw that she was lying there obediently, looking at him.
He then closed the door and left, relieved.
Hera watched him close the door and leave, then shifted her gaze from the door to the ceiling.
They provide food and even personally deliver food to you, which is better treatment than the previous ant colony.
There wasn't much food, and I don't know when I'll get another meal.
If they give me plenty of food, I'll stay here a little longer, like I did with the ant colony before, and find a suitable time to leave.
Hera raised her small, pale, and slender hand and looked at it in front of her.
Then it was taken back.
The right time is probably a long, long time away...
Sun Hai lay exhausted on the sofa, listlessly pulling the blanket over himself.
Damn it, I've never been this tired even on a regular mission.
Taking care of people is really tiring, especially taking care of women, and even more so when they have mental health issues.
We must find a way to send Hera to be cared for by someone else.
As a grown man, taking care of someone else isn't a long-term solution.
Okay, let's do it this way.
...
Sun Hai turned to look at the still bustling city outside the window, a world apart from the cold, desolate room he now occupied.
"But you talked quite a lot today..."
Then, without thinking further, Sun Hai turned over, pulled the blanket over his head, and fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning
Thump thump thump! Thump thump thump!
Several knocks on the door broke the morning's tranquility.
Sun Hai, who was still in his dream discussing life with Zhuangzi, was forcibly pulled back to reality.
"Ugh..." Sun Hai sat up from the sofa impatiently, rubbing his eyes.
Knock knock knock!
Before he could even stretch, the knocking on the door started again.
Sun Hai sat on the sofa speechless, then got up from the sofa.
He walked straight to the door
"He doesn't even know how to knock properly, so impolite!" Sun Hai cursed as he opened the door.
"Surprise! Captain!"
"We never expected to come to see you!"
As soon as the door opened, the pair of "Sleeping Dragon and Phoenix Chicks" jumped straight in, simultaneously making strange gestures as if to welcome them.
Sun Hai's face, however, was as black as charcoal.
"So you all came here specifically to see me?"
Sun Hai crossed his arms over his chest and asked the other two trembling figures in front of him.
"Well... um, almost... about the same."
One of the boys, who looked somewhat cute, glanced at Liu Xiaogang and Feng Xuan lying unconscious on the ground, then immediately reacted, straightened up, and answered in a trembling voice.
"What do you mean 'almost'? Si Xiaobei, are you being dishonest too?" Sun Hai's fingers cracked as he clenched his fists.
This terrified Si Xiaobei, but perhaps due to excessive fear, she stood there stammering for a long time, unable to explain herself clearly.
"Oh, I just wanted to see how that girl Hera was doing, and also to check on the captain."
The situation was not right, so another team member, who looked slightly older, quickly answered for Si Xiaobei.
"Actually, I just wanted to see if the captain was doing anything inappropriate to this girl."
Feng Xuan, who had been lying on the ground, had somehow gotten up and squatted down. He suddenly interjected with a comment and then went back to lying down.
That's right.
He was beaten down by Sun Hai.
Sun Hai withdrew his still-smoking fist and coughed twice.
"Come in, everyone."
He then turned and went inside, leaving Feng Xuan lying on the ground, his head still smoking and seemingly lifeless, and the three others huddled together, trembling.
Sun Hai sat on the sofa, picked up a cup, filled it with coffee from the coffee machine on the table, and took a small sip.
"Please sit down."
Liu Xiaogang and the others, carrying Feng Xuan, sat down on the sofa.
"I didn't expect the captain's house to be decorated so well. It feels a bit like the style of European aristocracy."
Si Xiaobei looked at the room and exclaimed in amazement.
"It's alright," Sun Hai replied simply, but he was secretly very happy.
Liu Xiaogang probably sensed that Sun Hai's mood had improved considerably, so he went straight to the topic.
"Captain, where is that girl named Hera now?"
"I let her sleep in my bed, she should still be sleeping now."
Huh? What kind of looks are those?
Sun Hai suddenly noticed that they were all looking at him with strange eyes.
