"Second Brother," Jin Changge said, knocking on the door.
The talking inside the door stopped abruptly, and after a moment, rhythmic knocking could be heard.
A moment later, the sound drew closer, and as the door opened, Jin Jiande appeared before Jin Changge's eyes.
He leaned on a cane with one hand and held onto the open door with the other, a faint smile on his face.
"I just arrived a little while ago."
"It's been a while since I've come to see my mother." His voice was slightly hoarse.
“Yes, me too,” Jin Changge said.
Jin Jiande nodded, lowered his arm from the door, stepped aside, and leaned against the door.
The half-open door was pushed inward by this force, and Jin Jiande, losing his support and struggling with his crutch, fell in as well.
He hurriedly reached out to grab the door frame, but the cane under his arm slipped and fell to the ground first.
Inevitably, his body also fell down.
But it did not collapse.
Jin Changge reached out and took his arm. "Slow down, Second Brother."
With the help of others, Jin Jiande stood up straight and steadied himself against the door.
"It's alright, you can go in." He smiled indifferently, and bent down to pick up the cane.
But Jin Changge had already taken the first step, picking up her crutch from the ground. She calmly placed the crutch in Jin Jiande's hand and reached out to brush off a wisp of dust that had somehow gotten on his clothes.
"Have you offered incense yet, Second Brother?" Jin Changge glanced at Jin Jiande, who was somewhat dazed, and walked inside.
"Oh... I've already been there." Jin Jiande came to his senses and followed.
Jin Changge did not reply. She walked to the prayer mat and stared blankly at her mother's memorial tablet.
a long time.
Jin Jiande's voice rang out from the side:
"Here, the aroma."
Jin Changge turned his face, and Jin Jiande, with a calm expression, was handing over a stick of incense.
Taking the incense, Jin Changge walked to the incense burner, lit it by the candlelight, and then placed the incense sticks into the burner with both hands.
Jin Jiande stood to the side, leaning on his cane, his gaze never leaving Jin Changge. He pursed his thin lips, his eyes gentle, and spoke:
“When we were kids, every time we fought, I couldn’t beat you and I would tell you I was surrendering, but you wouldn’t let me go and would always chase after me to beat me.”
“The servants dared not stop me, Father could not find me, my eldest brother did not care, and my younger brother was even more useless, always hanging out with those maids. I could only run around everywhere, and you chased after me, causing chaos.”
With a smile in his eyes, Jin Jiande turned his gaze to his mother's memorial tablet:
"Fortunately, the ancestral hall is there to protect me."
“I ran to the ancestral hall, and you didn’t dare to make a move. You came in obediently and didn’t even dare to say a curse word.”
"Hehe, yes." Jin Changge chuckled softly. "You always use Mother to pressure me, saying that Mother is watching."
Jin Jiande shook his head and said with a smile, "Can your mother control you?"
I don't think so.
“Have you forgotten? The ancestral hall isn’t always effective. I remember clearly that when I was sixteen, I ran into the ancestral hall, and you still attacked me.”
At this point, Jin Jiande unconsciously touched his buttocks and then laughed, "You beat me up pretty badly that time. I don't know why your feet are so hard. You kicked me so hard that it hurt like hell. I remember I was covered in bruises."
“That time, Mom couldn’t control you.”
Jin Changge turned around, her crescent-shaped eyes full of smiles. After glancing at him, she walked to the prayer mat and slowly knelt down.
You're wrong.
“The reason I chased you to the ancestral hall to beat you up that time was because I missed Mother so much,” Jin Changge said softly.
Jin Jiande looked at Jin Changge in surprise: "You miss your mother... then why did you beat me so badly? What's the connection?"
Jin Changge's face remained calm, as if he had fallen into a momentary daze.
"Of course we're connected. I think if I beat you up in front of Mother's memorial tablet, she'd definitely be angry."
"If my mother knew this in the afterlife, she would surely not forgive this unfilial daughter."
"She might come to me in my dreams tonight. She can hit me or scold me, it doesn't matter. At least I can see her. I have so many things I want to tell her."
As soon as he finished speaking, Jin Jiande opened his mouth slightly and then turned his back.
"Second brother, do you still remember what Mother looks like? I've never seen her." Jin Changge asked softly, his hands clasped together.
"I...I remember...Mother was very beautiful, especially her eyes."
“Your Majesty’s eyes are just like Mother’s. If only his eyes were visible, I might not be able to tell them apart.” Jin Jiande turned his back, his waist slightly bent, and his voice became hoarse again.
"Really? I can't tell. Maybe it's because I was only looking at the portrait," Jin Changge said calmly.
"They look so alike, so very alike..."
“When my mother first passed away, I always cried. His Majesty often came to visit me at home. Every time I saw those eyes, I was reminded of my mother.”
“Actually… Yongning, your personality is very similar to your mother’s. Although your mother has a gentle and beautiful appearance, she is actually very decisive and strict in her actions.”
Jin Changge listened quietly.
"My mother was not born into a noble family; she was just a commoner. She had a hard childhood, and even after marrying my father and becoming a princess, some of her habits remained with her."
“My little brother is a picky eater. If he can’t finish a bowl of rice, he’ll think about throwing it away. If Mother sees this, he’ll definitely get a beating.”
"My eldest brother has a bad temper. If any of the servants displease him, they will start fighting and no one can stop him or dare to stop him. But Mother can always stop him. Mother is skilled in martial arts. I have often seen her use a sword. My eldest brother never dares to act recklessly in front of Mother."
