At this point, Xu Chu, who was standing outside the door, tugged at Dian Wei's arm, who was listening intently, and whispered:
"Move back a bit, why are you standing so close?"
"Do you really think she'll suddenly turn on you and harm our lord?"
Dian Wei was puzzled and looked at Xu Chu with a confused expression. Xu Chu grabbed his arm with one hand and tugged at Qing'er's sleeve with the other.
The two were thus pulled away from the doorway by Xu Chu. Dian Wei was completely bewildered and was about to ask a question when Xu Chu looked at Qing'er, who was tense and still listening intently, and whispered with a smile:
"Little girl, come here, let me tell you a joke."
“You’re usually so quiet, but you can tell jokes? I’d like to hear what kind of jokes you have to say,” Dian Wei said, peeking out with interest.
Qing'er dared not disobey Xu Chu, whose face was all smiles but still looked fierce, so she could only lean closer and listen with her head down.
Inside the room, Qin Ze raised an eyebrow in response to Jin Changge's reply:
"So, even if your own children commit unforgivable crimes, you would still be ruthless and kill them without any regard for family?"
Jin Changge clenched his fists and said expressionlessly:
"Even if I had children, they should be disciplined more strictly, and if they commit crimes, they should be severely punished."
At this point, she frowned slightly and looked at Qin Ze as she continued:
"Your Majesty, from what you're saying, could it be that you intend to..." She scrutinized Qin Ze, her gaze as sharp as a knife.
Qin Ze touched his nose, leaned back slightly in his chair, and said:
"What you say makes sense, but is there really anyone in the world who could do that? I think it's very difficult."
After saying that, he looked at Jin Changge with a deep expression: "I'm afraid there are very few people like you."
Feeling that aggressive gaze, Jin Changge felt inexplicably flustered and involuntarily shrank back, saying in a muffled voice:
“Ordinary people are one thing, but you are the emperor. You not only have to be strict with yourself, but you also have to manage those around you well, otherwise…”
"Otherwise what? Just say it. Are you worried about angering me and having your head chopped off? Don't worry, I only deal ruthlessly with enemies." Qin Ze pressed Jin Changge for an answer when he saw him stammering.
Jin Changge, no longer holding back, said frankly, "Wouldn't that just turn us into the next Great Gan Dynasty?"
"Your Majesty is still young, and the people look to you with utmost devotion. But eventually, you will have a son, and when you grow old, you will have to pass the throne to someone else. If, at that time, the one in power is incompetent and foolish..."
Jin Changge thought of his family and couldn't help but sigh: "Then we will repeat the same mistakes and fall into the cycle of destruction once again."
"And the common people, of course, will suffer as a result."
As Jin Changge finished speaking, a strange light appeared in Qin Ze's eyes. This former Princess Yongning had been tempered to a level far beyond that of ordinary people after experiencing such a heart-wrenching event.
So Qin Ze said in a deep voice, "You don't want to see this happen, and neither do I."
"How about..." This time, it was Qin Ze's turn to stammer.
"Not as good as what?" Jin Changge asked, her clear eyes filled with doubt.
Qin Ze cleared his throat and said:
"Now that I am the ruler of a nation, I will lead my people to prosperity and make Yan the most powerful nation in the world."
Jin Changge nodded: "Yes, you said those words at the execution ground before, I heard them."
Qin Ze was somewhat surprised: "Weren't you unconscious?"
"I woke up for a little while, then fell asleep again. I couldn't help it, I haven't eaten for several days and I'm too weak. Otherwise, I would have listened to the whole thing, since what you said was quite inspiring, and I enjoyed listening to it," Jin Changge said slowly.
After saying the last sentence, she quickly added, "The people were also excited and loved to listen."
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a silvery laugh rang out from outside the door.
Qing'er laughed heartily at Xu Chu's jokes, while Dian Wei, standing to the side, looked serious and kept scratching his head. Xu Chu tugged at Qing'er's sleeve and said:
"Little girl, keep your voice down."
"Oh, okay!" Qing'er quickly stopped laughing, her expression turning serious. Xu Chu continued:
"Now, I'm going to tell you the second joke, so listen carefully."
Xu Zhu then began to tell the second joke.
Inside the room, after Jin Changge finished speaking, Qin Ze dragged his chair forward, getting closer to the bed.
Jin Changge gripped the blanket tightly and leaned back, his palms inexplicably sweating.
She could only conclude that the intense sunset outside the window was causing her to feel hot, rather than the approaching person in front of her.
In fact, ever since she left Jinling and came to Nanze, she has never shared so many of her innermost thoughts with anyone other than Qing'er.
Even Qing'er couldn't understand some of the things she was told.
As for Qin Ze, Jin Changge felt for some reason that he seemed to be pretending, and that this round of conversation was more like an inquiry than casual chat.
Seeing Qin Ze lean out slightly, his expression turning serious, Jin Changge became a little nervous, and her hands felt somewhat at a loss.
Qin Ze leaned forward, looking at Jin Changge's somewhat uneasy face, and after a moment of silence, he spoke:
"Our country will eventually become a giant ship that can cleave through the waves and sail further and further as time goes by."
"During this period, the people on the ship will definitely change generation after generation, with the predecessors passing away and the successors taking over."
"The helmsmen who control the direction of the ship cannot make any mistakes. Whoever is in charge of the helm must have an unyielding will and noble character."
