But he was ultimately just a farmer who had spent most of his life working in the fields, who had never learned any martial arts and was not born with superhuman strength. He was even less capable than an ordinary farmer.
In less than five breaths, the squad leader twisted his wrist, snatched the knife from his hand, and with a kick, threw Hu San to the ground.
With a "smack"!
The squad leader, his face contorted with rage, had already placed a foot on Hu San's head, pressing Hu San's face, contorted with pain from his broken wrist, firmly to the ground.
Hu San's nose became crooked, and blood gushed from his nasal cavity. He cried out in despair and anguish:
"God, what did I do wrong...?"
"You scoundrel! How dare you defy your superiors! You're asking for death!" The squad leader used all his strength, pressing his military boot down on Hu San's head.
So the wailing face rubbed against the hard, rough ground, and the scorched face gradually broke open, blood flowing from the wounds, and Hu San's cries became even more shrill.
"You dare to take my knife and even try to slash at me! Who the hell gave you the guts! You bastard! I'll teach you a lesson you won't forget!" The squad leader grew angrier as he spoke, raising his foot to stomp down hard.
But just as he raised his head, a loud shout suddenly rang out:
"Stop it!!!"
The squad leader still had one foot on Hu San's head, but at that moment he slowly raised his head.
A pair of black cloth boots with white soles gradually came into view. Looking up, a tall man with a white face and no beard, wearing a wide-sleeved robe, came into sight.
"What, is this person your relative?!" The squad leader looked him up and down and shouted sternly.
"No." The man looked at Hu San, who was lying on the ground groaning, and a look of sorrow appeared on his face.
"Then what are you doing, talking so much?! Get back here!" the squad leader shouted, kicking Hu San again.
"Sir, stop! Don't hit him anymore!"
“He’s just… just a pitiful man!” The man took two steps forward and shouted again.
"Bullshit! Didn't you see him attack me? Besides disobeying His Majesty's orders, this country bumpkin dared to assassinate me. He deserves to die!"
"You're taking his side? I don't think you're any better!" The squad leader said coldly, raising his knife and pointing it at the man in the sleeves.
The man in the robe shook his head and sighed:
"Sir, the rebels will soon attack Nanze. If you need to conscript soldiers, those of us with some martial arts skills have already come."
"But not everyone can go to the battlefield. We must act according to reason, right?"
"The peasant slave you speak of, whom you trample under your feet, is nonetheless the most honest and dutiful subject of our Great Gan!"
"On his way to the battlefield, he asked me if we could plant rice seedlings at home. You thought it was a trivial matter, but you didn't know what it meant."
The squad leader grew increasingly angry and shouted, "What nonsense are you spouting?"
"Get back here! Stop spouting nonsense!"
The man in the robe walked straight ahead, and continued speaking with a sorrowful expression:
"It is thanks to these people that our Great Gan has gradually become a glorious nation. Now that Great Gan is in grave danger, as citizens of Great Gan, we should naturally dedicate ourselves to it. However, how can we be willing to do so when the court treats us so brutally?"
"We've already lost most of our territory to the rebels, are they going to lose us too?"
"Let him go back, don't let us down again!"
The man in the robe had already walked up to the squad leader, but the squad leader laughed in anger:
"What a sharp-tongued, poor scholar! He certainly has a silver tongue!"
He lifted his foot and walked past Hu San, then stood in front of the man in the robe, suddenly reached out and grabbed his collar, angrily shouting:
"Don't give me that fucking nonsense!"
"Since you know you're going to fight the rebels, then you should obediently enlist in the army and defend Nanze with us!"
"If he ends up like him!" The squad leader pointed his knife at the groaning Hu San, then shouted angrily:
"Then I tell you, this should be treated as treason!"
"Go back!" As soon as he finished speaking, the squad leader shoved the man in the sleeves, then turned around, grabbed Hu San's hair, and forcibly pulled him up from the ground.
Hu San was already in so much pain that his face was contorted, and all he could do now was grab his hair and cry.
"Alright, now you don't need to join the army or go back to farming. Ha! You brought this on yourself!" The squad leader glared at Hu San with a ferocious expression and said coldly.
The man in the robe stood silently to the side, looking up at the dim light of the sky. As he descended, he saw the soldier with a ferocious expression and the farmer weeping with a look of misery on his face.
Hearing the heart-wrenching cries, he finally shook his head and murmured to himself in sorrow:
"Such a sound that heralds the downfall of a nation."
“A great undertaking is a sign of national ruin. Enough, it really is time to end it.”
“Death is not determined by Heaven, but by man, alas!” He rolled up his wide sleeves with a sorrowful expression.
"Huh? What did you just say?" The squad leader was about to take Hu San away, but he also heard these words. He raised an eyebrow and turned to glare at the man in the sleeves.
The man in the robe tightened his sleeves and sighed:
"It's just what you heard."
The squad leader released his grip, and Hu San fell to the ground with a thud. He then approached the man in the sleeveless robe, a fierce look on his face, knife in hand.
"Ha! How dare you utter such treasonous words!"
"You even said that to my face! You look like a member of the Red Tide rebels!" the squad leader shouted.
Facing the squad leader approaching with a sword, the man in the robe also walked towards him, but still shook his head and said:
"I am not."
The squad leader narrowed his eyes, gripped the knife with both hands, and then sneered:
