Chapter 762 Battle of Macedonia 8

Inside the Yan Army camp.

"Your Majesty, the breakout attempt has failed."

"We withdrew quickly, and they didn't pursue us, so we didn't lose any men."

The three cavalry units returned to their camp empty-handed. The captain, who was leading the group, said this to Qin Ze. Although it seemed like bad news, the captain had a faint smile on his face.

Upon hearing his report, Qin Ze smiled so much that his eyes narrowed into crescent moons.

"Okay, well done."

"We'll try to break through again in an hour, this time with more men," Qin Ze said with a laugh.

"Yes, Your Majesty!"

Qin Ze then turned to the messenger and said, "Once midnight has passed, launch a massive artillery bombardment of the Macedonian arsenal."

"Yes, Your Majesty!"

After issuing the two orders, Qin Ze turned around and sat back in his chair, looking at the burning fire in front of him, and began to ponder.

——

Just past 7:30, after receiving the first message from Klein, Dingle fell into deep thought amidst the army rushing to join him.

"Klein believes there's a possibility the enemy might use a strategy of besieging a stronghold to ambush reinforcements. Dingle, do you think that's a likely possibility?" Lieutenant General Harbor asked, mounted on his warhorse.

Dingle remained silent, still deep in thought.

"Cough cough cough."

Lieutenant General Hopkins, standing nearby, coughed a few times and said, "Besieging a point and attacking reinforcements can only be done if they have a large number of troops."

"Without a strong military force, they will only be surrounded and annihilated."

As soon as he finished speaking, Dingle replied, "Yes, but judging from the signs they've shown so far, that possibility certainly exists."

"The cunning of the Yan people was already evident during the attack on Foster Harbor."

"If they really intend to besiege a point and intercept reinforcements, then this army will definitely be the main force, and vice versa..."

At this point, his face darkened, and he said, "Foster Harbor is actually sparsely defended; it just misled us into thinking that it was heavily guarded."

"If that's the case, then the technique of switching between reality and illusion is very clever."

"That's something only someone from Yan Kingdom would do."

Upon hearing this, everyone's expression changed, and Lieutenant General Harbor immediately asked, "Then should we change our marching route?"

Dingle shook his head: "It's all speculation, without any intelligence to support it."

"However, we cannot rule out the possibility that we may have to go to Foster Harbor before we can rendezvous with Klein's troops... but... this could delay our operations."

Dingle was caught in a dilemma.

"Why not divide our forces?"

“Send half of our forces to Foster Harbor, and the other half to join Klein’s troops. If there aren’t many enemy troops outside the Macedonian arsenal, they won’t be able to pose a significant threat to the arsenal in a short time. This will give us the opportunity to find out whether Foster Harbor is heavily guarded,” Harbor said hesitantly.

The moment the words "divide the troops" appeared, Dingle's nerves were jolted.

"no."

"Then we're back in a passive position."

"This might mean we won't be able to eliminate either of the two enemy forces."

"Could this be another trick?" Dingle muttered to himself, his brow furrowed.

After some thought, Dingle's face darkened, and he said, "From the landing to the attack on the Macedonian military factory, it took no more than two days, and it was all within our country's territory. Where did they get the audacity to besiege the point and attack the reinforcements?"

“Unrealistic.” He shook his head.

"The plan remains unchanged. We will join forces with Klein's army and continue our attack on that Yan army."

Despite saying that, Dingle had already begun to waver, and an inexplicable sense of crisis had begun to linger in his heart.

But soon, about twenty minutes later, the second messenger sent by Klein brought the latest news.

It was that news about the Yan Army's failed breakout.

Upon receiving this information, the officers, led by Lieutenant General Harbor, breathed a sigh of relief.

"The message from Yan Jun was intercepted. Clearly, there are not many troops there, otherwise they wouldn't be in such a hurry to go back and report."

“Dinger, our battle plan is correct!” Lieutenant General Harbor said to Dinger.

Dingle's worries subsided considerably, and he nodded, saying:

"The fact that they deliberately chose to send the message at night does seem to indicate a shortage of troops. Tonight is especially important for them, and they will probably try their best to get back and send the message."

"But what if it gets intercepted every time...?"

He looked up and stared ahead, his expression turning particularly grim.

"They will either launch a general offensive against Klein's army, or they will try to find a way to withdraw."

Lieutenant General Harbor shook his head and said, "Our retreat has been cut off; there is no way to retreat."

"If we're going to retreat, we can only retreat deeper into our inland areas."

"But that will only lead to their annihilation even faster."

"As for the attack... Klein said that the defenses have been set up and we will be there soon. Even if they launch a general offensive now, it will be useless because they don't have many troops to begin with."

At this point, he raised the corners of his mouth and smiled.

Dingle, however, frowned and fell into a longer period of contemplation.

——

Inside Klein's military camp.

"Bang bang bang".

Gunshots rang out again, but Klein was no longer nervous about them.

Since nightfall, the enemy's several small-scale breakouts have all been thwarted, and he could imagine the enemy's current predicament of being in dire straits.
