On the other side...
By the time Lieutenant Hanno, carrying out the mission assigned by Phil, circled around from the rear of the battlefield to the temporary command post, it was already past midnight.
The sights along the way were horrifying. Countless people had perished under the shells. Burning tanks were almost everywhere on the battlefield, which stretched for one or two kilometers. The flames on the battlefield even turned the night sky red.
Several plumes of black smoke shot straight into the sky, and the air was filled with a pungent smell. After arriving at headquarters, Hanno saw that a large number of soldiers were still rushing to the front line. When he passed by these troops, Hanno could clearly see fear and tension on the faces of each of them. Some of them were even so pale that they looked like they were about to die.
The same applies to Hanno.
Sweat beaded on his cheeks, his clothes were completely soaked, and his jaw was chattering uncontrollably. When he dismounted, he even tripped and fell due to his stiff body.
After being helped up by the accompanying communications soldier, he tried his best to calm his frightened expression and looked up at Saski, who was standing in the crowd waving his arms.
Before he even got close, Hanno could hear angry shouts coming from there.
The voice came from the annoying Saskia, who was still the same as before, harsh and unreasonable, arrogant and disdainful of everyone. He was tough on his enemies, but beneath that toughness was an incompetent, hypocritical fool.
Putting aside his distracting thoughts, Hanno and the signalmen quickly ran over.
"Get the 49th Division over there now! Byrt! You must take your men and break into the Yan Kingdom's positions within an hour, completely destroy their formation. I've had enough of these shells! They're making it impossible for us to move an inch! Damn it! Why isn't the flank ready yet..." Saski, who was roaring, had just finished speaking when he saw Hanno running over with a communications soldier.
He immediately stepped forward, grabbed Hanno by the collar, and yelled at him, "Have you made any progress?!"
Before he could even utter the words he had been holding back, Hanno deflated with that roar.
"What the hell?! Can't you even speak properly?!" Saski was furious, his hat already off, making him look like an enraged lion.
"No...no, sir," Hanno said, his eyes darting around.
With a "whoosh," Saski abruptly released his grip, shaking his head repeatedly, before suddenly letting out a hoarse roar:
"Why?!"
"Why haven't we made a breakthrough yet? Could it be that those damned Yan people have also deployed a large number of cannons on the flank?!"
Hanno lowered his head and said, "Sir, we...we can't get close to the enemy's flank yet. We haven't done that. The enemy has deployed a large number of cavalry on their flank, and these cavalry are extremely powerful. We...we can't defeat them..."
Upon hearing this, Saskia's face turned from red to green. Although she didn't roar again, her expression sent chills down Hanno's spine.
For a few seconds, everyone fell silent. The air was filled with a suffocating and tense atmosphere. Hanno knew that the main force had also suffered heavy casualties on the front. At this point in the battle, his side had not gained the slightest advantage. This could be roughly seen from the faces of the officers present.
Ultimately, it was Hanno who broke the silence first, knowing that he had to relay Phil's instructions to Saskia.
"Sir, General Phil... requests a retreat."
"We cannot defeat the enemy cavalry; they are well-equipped, tactically superior, and possess a considerable advantage..."
At this point, Hanno's pupils contracted, and he unconsciously took two steps back, simply because Saski was coldly drawing a short-handled musket from his waist.
"Sir, I... this is just General Phil's request, if you..." Hanno was sweating profusely as he backed away.
Meanwhile, Leo quickly gave the others a wink, stepped forward, grabbed Saski's wrist, and admonished:
"Sir...please..."
Before he could finish speaking, Saskia frantically pulled out his gun, causing Leo to stumble.
The other officers were startled and dared not step forward to stop them for a moment, but in the blink of an eye...
"Click click click".
Several trigger clicks rang out in succession, as Saskia fired repeatedly at Hanno, who was retreating.
Seeing the dark muzzle of the gun, Hanno's knees buckled, and he was so frightened that he fell to the ground.
"Damn it! Still thinking about retreating! No one's leaving here until we defeat the Yan Kingdom tonight!!!"
"Anyone who dares to retreat, I'll shoot him dead and treat him as a traitor!!!" Only then did Saski finally unleash his furious roar.
Leo breathed a sigh of relief and replied, "Yes, sir."
Hanno, who had fallen to the ground, seemed to have lost his mind and just sat there blankly.
However, he was not actually shot.
Because in his anger, Saskia only pulled the trigger; there was no gunpowder in the ammunition compartment.
That exquisite and luxurious short-handled musket was always just a beautiful decoration; it had long since lost its value as a weapon.
"Yes, sir! We will fight to the end!" The other officers echoed, and amidst the cheers, Hanno, whose face had turned ashen, finally came to his senses.
Saski, his face cold, silently shoved the gun into his holster, then cursed:
“Tell that bastard Phil that this is a life-or-death battle! We only allow victory, not defeat!”
