Led by Wolfgang, after passing through a series of guard posts and inspections, Dingle finally entered a guest house in the Royal Castle Palace half an hour later.
The guesthouse is not used often, but now every room is lit up, as if all the rooms are occupied. Downstairs, the Storm Special Combat Team, armed with guns, is on guard.
Dingle followed Wolfgang up the stairs, and on each floor he passed, he could see Storm Special Combat Team members standing guard with guns at the top of the stairs.
This caused Dingle to gradually frown. They continued until they reached the fourth floor, where Wolfgang led Dingle into the room at the very end of the corridor.
After closing the door, Dingle looked at Wolfgang, who was facing away from him and taking off his hat, and said:
"Is this still the Royal Castle?"
"It's like a prison."
Upon hearing this, Wolfgang turned around and said in a low voice with a serious expression, "Don't talk nonsense. These are special times!"
“I know it’s a special time, but does it have to come to this? Are all the officials in this building? What are those Storm Fighting Team members doing? Are they spying on us?” Dingle asked, frowning.
"Keep your voice down, kid," Wolfgang warned, walking into the room and pulling up a chair to sit down wearily.
Dingle walked to the window opposite, leaned against it, and pulled back a corner of the curtain to look outside.
From this vantage point, one can see not only soldiers on guard duty but also patrolling soldiers constantly moving about, and without exception, they are all members of the Storm Special Combat Team.
"The Emperor was assassinated at nine o'clock last night," Wolfgang suddenly said.
Upon hearing this, Dingle was startled and turned to look at Wolfgang with a look of astonishment:
"Wh...what?"
"You heard me right, the Emperor was assassinated, but the assassin failed. The Emperor is unharmed, but... he is extremely angry." Wolfgang scratched his head in frustration, then reached for his pipe.
Dingle was still in shock and pressed, "Where was the assassination attempt carried out? Could it have been... at the Royal Castle?"
Wolfgang gave a muffled "hmm" as he stuffed tobacco into his pipe.
"The assassins have already infiltrated the royal castle? This..."
"Were they captured alive? Or were they killed on the spot?" Dingle asked repeatedly.
"Well... he was captured alive. Luckily, he was using a dagger, not a musket. His wrist was broken and his leg was snapped in one strike. Bowerman took him away for interrogation," Wolfgang mumbled.
Dingle frowned, then asked, "Did the assassin come from inside the Royal Castle?"
Upon hearing this, Wolfgang, who had already lit the fire, couldn't help but glance at Dingle:
"Yes, someone from inside the Royal Castle, a night patrol guard named Bellazo."
"Guards? Are they Kosovo rebels in real life? Or some other kind of traitor?" On the way to Salibia, Dingle had learned more or less that the empire not only had powerful external enemies, but also internal problems, just as Dylan's letter had said.
Some internal unrest is brewing and is gradually taking place.
At this moment, in response to Dingle's question, Wolfgang replied meaningfully: "The current unified narrative is that the assassin is a Kosovo rebel who has been lying in wait for several years."
"He is the Nemesis we have been searching for, the organizer of the last assassination attempt."
Upon hearing this, Dingle's eyebrows furrowed. In mid-November of last year, Von Palen had also narrowly escaped assassination, and the mastermind behind that assassination was this man codenamed "Nemesis."
However, before the assassination attempt could even begin, one of the assassins reported the plot to the police. Except for Nemesis, who was not caught, all the assassins were arrested and, after a period of interrogation, were sentenced to be hanged in St. Marienplatz in mid-December.
Although Dingle was in the harbor at the time, news of this momentous event had already spread throughout the country. Dingle was equally curious about the true identity of Nemesis, who had kept his identity hidden from beginning to end.
At the time, he guessed that Nemesis was most likely someone from inside the Royal Castle, otherwise he would never know so much about Von Palen's itinerary, and it was even very likely that he was someone close to Von Palen.
But now, Wolfgang's use of "uniform messaging" in his statement is somewhat subtle, and Dingle immediately asked in a deep voice:
So what is the truth?
Wolfgang tapped his pipe and said indifferently, "That guy isn't from Kosovo, and he's most likely not an Essafin Party member, let alone a Restoration Party member. He shouldn't belong to any rebellious party organization."
Upon hearing this, Dingle's expression grew even more serious.
Wolfgang continued:
"Assassin Kalonki Belasso, 26 years old, was born in Salivia. His parents were farmers who made a living by growing cotton. He also has two younger sisters, one 19 years old and the other 13 years old."
"He and his family members are all pure Goths, sharing the same blood as us. In fact, their ancestors for generations were all genuine Goths."
"This is solid information. Bowerman tortured him for a long time and arrested and interrogated all his family members. Before they died, they did not extract any valuable information from them."
Dingle's face had changed, turning pale; "Why would he attempt an assassination?"
Wolfgang crossed his legs and said:
