The next day, at dawn.
When the signalmen from Elmanburg arrived outside the city of Salibia, everyone was stunned.
Captain Jelas, riding at the head of the group, looked at the familiar Wall of Saint Marin, where a fully armed force was stationed at the city gate.
"What happened?" a subordinate asked anxiously.
Jeras's face darkened: "Something's happened? Can anything compare to the Yan Kingdom people almost reaching Salivia?"
Upon hearing this, all the signal corps soldiers' faces turned noticeably paler.
"Go! Report this to the Emperor immediately!" Jeras shouted, and rode his horse straight to the city gate.
However, before they even got close to the city gate, they were stopped by soldiers at the checkpoint.
"Martial law is in effect throughout the city! No one is allowed to enter!" a lieutenant at the checkpoint said coldly.
Upon hearing this, Jeras, though puzzled, immediately replied, "We have urgent news to deliver to His Majesty."
The lieutenant, his face still grim, replied, "Didn't you understand? Martial law for the entire city! No one is allowed to enter!"
Geras frowned and asked, "What happened?"
The lieutenant, however, had a grim face and only said, "You'll know once martial law is lifted. Don't ask so many questions now."
Upon hearing this, Geras even found it laughable, and a surge of anger rose within him. He retorted angrily:
"Are you kidding me? Do you even know what the situation is like on the front lines right now?!"
"We need to bring the situation at the front to His Majesty immediately; this is extremely urgent news!"
The lieutenant raised an eyebrow and said, "Just tell me, and I'll relay it."
Geras frowned more and more, and couldn't help but become suspicious. He looked the people at the checkpoint up and down and asked, "Which unit are you from?"
The lieutenant's face turned cold, and with a wave of his hand, the soldier next to him actually drew his gun.
Jeras's expression changed, he leaned back slightly, his breathing became rapid for a moment, and he hurriedly said, "Okay...okay...I understand."
After Jeras finished recounting all the information he had brought, the lieutenant, who had been expressionless the whole time, turned visibly pale.
He rode off, heading straight for the city gate, his hand gripping the reins trembling uncontrollably.
——
Inside the city of Salvia.
Despite having fought all night, the battle has not yet ceased. The Royal Castle covers a vast area with multiple checkpoints and a large number of soldiers, which has kept the battle at a stalemate.
At this moment, Wolfgang, who was directing the operation, was no longer as tense as he had been the previous afternoon. Before deciding to overthrow von Palen's regime, he had been worried that only a few people would participate in the operation, and if it could not be successful in a short time, then a bloody reckoning would follow.
But when the uprising was actually launched, he found that those who should have been staunch supporters of Von Palen did not stand firmly on his side. Some responded to his call and participated in the action, while others simply handed over their military power and cleverly became "neutral," watching the final outcome of the action.
Wolfgang was happy to see these people, because the self-righteous act of "neutrality" was tantamount to betrayal for von Palen, but for him, it was tantamount to support.
It was for this reason that he realized that, at least most people in the army today understood that the war could not continue and that overthrowing Von Palen's regime and ending the war was what they wanted to see.
Contrary to the military's stance, the residents of Salvia have a different attitude. It must be said that von Palen has built up a great reputation among them over the years. Therefore, some people who have realized that the country is experiencing "internal strife" have spontaneously chosen to defend von Palen.
Fortunately, the incident happened suddenly, and the people were unable to organize militia forces or wield weapons, so they were unable to influence the insurgents.
But this was ironic for Wolfgang.
He could only send troops to attack the Royal Castle while simultaneously organizing people to spread Von Palen's shocking idea of "war of the whole nation, with the whole country going down in the line of duty" within the city.
Whether the public considers it "slander and defamation of von Palen" or "the truth of the country" is no longer important to Wolfgang.
Because the masses are inherently foolish and blind.
Therefore, he only thought about taking the Royal Castle as soon as possible and completely overthrowing the regime of von Palen, so that the country could have any hope of being saved.
And now, inside the temporary command post.
"Sir, there are too many battles in the city streets. Should we use artillery?" a major general asked with a conflicted expression.
Upon hearing this, Wolfgang's expression darkened, and he asked, "In a residential area?"
"Yes, the assault isn't going well. The special forces are hiding in the residential area outside the fortress, fighting a defensive battle with us. We can't eliminate them, so we can't get close to the fortress at all, and..."
The major general paused, then continued, "Delay could lead to unforeseen circumstances. Although all the city's entrances and exits have been sealed off, we can't be sure if they've sent anyone out to deliver the message before then. If other units respond, this could put us..."
At this point, Wolfgang said coldly, "Then let's not hesitate, let's attack with artillery."
“Even if unrelated people die because of this, it is the bitter fruit of Von Palen’s actions. If his rule is not ended, more innocent people will lose their lives.”
"Yes, sir, I understand." The major general left immediately with a stern face.
