March 12, Brullo Port.
"Waaah!"
Accompanied by the whistling of the steam horn, the last batch of steam-powered ironclad warships slowly set sail from the dock, and at this moment, Dingle, who was standing on the dock looking out, was filled with emotion.
Looking back on the events of the past few months, he sometimes felt as if it were an unreal dream. However, when those painful memories surfaced in his mind, he deeply felt that this was reality.
Now that the war is over and the Yan people have left, he should be able to breathe a sigh of relief, but even now, he still feels heavy-hearted.
As if a heavy stone were pressing on his heart, Dingle, with a furrowed brow, stared at the receding ironclad warships.
Along the route of these colossal ships, patches of grayish-white mist were spreading through the air, a magnificent sight that proclaimed the extraordinary nature of these ironclad behemoths.
Back then, it was these ironclad warships that utterly defeated the fleet sent out by the nation, while the Yan Kingdom's army was equally formidable, advancing all the way to the capital in less than three months and achieving a complete victory.
Now, the Yan people, who possess formidable strength both on land and at sea, have truly left without even imposing any harsh conditions after their victory.
In fact, this surprised Dingle. He had already envisioned the worst possible postwar compensation plan, but in the end, the Yan people did not even ask the country to cede an inch of land to them. This was truly unexpected, but it was precisely because of this that Dingle became more and more convinced of the "reasoning of the Yan people".
The wind at the sea grew stronger and stronger, and the ironclad warships slowly turned into black dots and disappeared from Dingle's sight. Only when he could no longer see any ships did Dingle slowly withdraw his gaze.
Meanwhile, among the crowd gazing out to sea from the dock, a soldier couldn't help but sigh:
"They actually left... My God, those guys, they came so suddenly, fought so fiercely, and left so cleanly and efficiently..."
"These Yan people... who exactly are they...?" the soldier muttered to himself.
Dingle turned to look at him, patted him on the shoulder and said, "To stop war with war, once war ceases, all fighting will stop."
So they left.
After these words, the soldiers present looked at Dingle with utter confusion, and one of them asked:
"Excuse me, Colonel, what...what do you mean?"
Dingle turned back to look at the pristine blue sea and slowly said:
"To stop war through war, so as to achieve the goal of stopping the use of weapons and ensuring lasting peace."
"This is the reasoning of the Yan people."
"The reasoning of the Yan people?" The soldiers looked at Dingle with some confusion in their eyes; some of them still couldn't fully understand it.
Dingle took out a cigarette case from his pocket, lit a cigarette, and after taking a deep drag, said:
"Yes, that's the way the Yan people work."
"There are many more principles, and each one is enough for us to study for a long time."
As soon as he finished speaking, a young soldier raised an eyebrow and said, "You want us to learn the principles they teach?"
Dingle exhaled a puff of smoke and said calmly, "Of course we should learn. Everyone should learn."
"The history of the Yan people is much longer than ours, and they have fought more battles than we have. These are lessons learned from countless bloody experiences."
Looking at Dingle, who seemed to regard the Yan people as his teachers, the soldier's face showed resentment, and he boldly said:
"We Goths have our reasons too, we don't necessarily have to follow their example!"
The soldier's rebuttal did not displease Dingle; he even chuckled and turned to look at the soldier, saying:
"I agree with the first part of your statement, and of course we also have our reasons."
“But learning their principles is not in conflict with us. If we learn their principles, our two countries will not be enemies, and may even become friends in the future.”
Dingle's amiable expression made the soldier lower his head, but he still muttered, "They won, so of course whatever they say is right..."
After he finished speaking, Dingle said unhurriedly, "You're right too."
"However, I still have to give you a serious warning."
He walked among the soldiers, his face grim, and said:
"Besides these verbal principles, Yanren also has principles based on force."
"Which principles we want to learn is entirely up to us, and our choices not only concern ourselves but also the fate of our nation and country."
"The start of this war was the choice we made, so the Yan people used their fists to teach us a lesson."
As soon as the words were spoken, all the soldiers froze, their eyes filled with fear as they looked at the sea.
Which principle should we learn?
Silence fell.
After a while.
"Yanren's reasoning does have some merit, and it's something we can really learn from."
"Hmm... I think so too."
What do you think?
"...Indeed, I should learn it."
"Colonel, what other reasons are there?"
The sea breeze blew strongly, seagulls flapped their wings and flew in the gale, and rolling waves crashed onto the golden beach. Amid the sound of the rising and falling tides, Dingle finished his last puff of cigarette.
"There's a lot to learn, and it will take a long time."
"Go back and learn slowly."
He threw the cigarette butts and the empty cigarette pack into the sea, put his hands in his pockets, and walked away talking.
