The three of them did not stay in the cemetery for long. After a simple worship and putting down the bouquet of flowers, Lu Jinghuai took Lin Yan and Lu Yingqian away from the cemetery.
"Shall we go to the hotel?"
Lin Yan knew that Lu Jinghuai planned to stay in Huai City for a day and a night and would go back tomorrow afternoon, but Lu Jinghuai shook his head.
"I have a house here that was left by my grandmother. I'd like to take you and Qianqian to have a look."
After driving for about twenty minutes from the cemetery, the car stopped in an old alley. The alley was a bit small and it was not convenient for the car to drive in.
The three of them got out of the car and walked in. The alley was not wide but there were no tall buildings around it. There were only small courtyards so the sunlight was very good in the alley.
The yards of each house are also beautifully decorated, with bougainvillea climbing the walls and various fruit trees in the yards, different for each house.
The house left by Grandma Lu at the end of the alley is also the house with the largest yard in the alley.
"My dad met my mom here, so they wanted to come back here to retire."
Unfortunately, the Lu couple did not return in the end and an accident happened.
"The pace here is slow, and it feels very comfortable to live here." Lin Yan said affirmatively as she looked at the surrounding environment.
Lu Jinghuai said "hmm" with a gentle expression.
At this time, the gate of one of the courtyards opened, and an elderly grandmother came in. She was a little surprised to see a stranger in the alley.
"Young man, who are you looking for here?"
"My family lives here. Grandma Yu, don't you remember me?" Lu Jinghuai pointed to the yard at the end of the alley.
The old lady seemed to recall something, slapped her head and seemed a little surprised.
"You are Ayun's child, right?"
Lu Jinghuai smiled and nodded: "Yeah."
"Ayun's child is already this big?" The old lady sighed, looking at Lu Yingqian behind Lu Jinghuai: "Is this your sister? She looks so much like Ayun."
Lu Jinghuai also said "hmm", and his voice was very gentle when facing the old lady.
"Well, this is my sister and my wife. I brought them back to see mom."
"It's her duty. Ayun was such a pitiful child. She passed away early and left behind two children." Grandma sighed.
Afterwards, the old lady enthusiastically invited Lu Jinghuai and others into the house, but Lu Jinghuai politely declined.
"No one has lived in our yard for a while. We plan to stay here for one night, so let's go clean up first."
The old lady also realized what was happening and nodded quickly: "That's right, I won't keep you any longer. If you need anything, come to my house and get it."
After politely thanking them, Lu Jinghuai took Lin Yan and Lu Yingqian to his grandmother's yard at the end of the alley.
The yard is not small, but not exaggeratedly large either. The first thing you see are two orange trees, and there is a loquat tree behind them. The grape racks are full of grapes.
The yard was not messy. There were some weeds but not many. Lu Jinghuai probably would ask someone to come and clean it occasionally.
"It's so beautiful here." Lin Yan had already walked under the grape vines, where there were several clusters of hydrangeas planted.
The blue-purple ones look really nice.
Lin Yan stood on tiptoe and picked the best-looking bunch of grapes from the grape rack.
"Eat a bunch of grapes to cool off."
Lu Yingqian also trotted over, stood on tiptoe, picked a grape from the rack, and put it in her mouth.
"Sister-in-law, the grapes are so sweet."
Lin Yan also smiled and picked two more grapes, putting one in her mouth and the other in Lu Yingqian's mouth.
"It's really sweet. Let's pick a few more and take them back to eat tomorrow."
Lu Jinghuai had already opened the door of the house, and Lin Yan and Lu Yingqian were still picking grapes in the yard.
Seeing Lu Jinghuai open the door and enter the house, Lin Yan shouted into the house.
"Does Lu Jinghuai have a basket at home? If so, take one out to put the grapes in."
Lu Jinghuai had just entered the house and was looking at the familiar furnishings with mixed feelings when he heard a call from the yard.
"Yeah, okay."
After a while, Lu Jinghuai came out of the house with a bamboo basket in his hand.
Lin Yan and Lu Yingqian were still picking grapes under the grape trellis, and a small bunch of picked grapes was already piled on the stone table.
Lu Jinghuai shook his head helplessly and went over to help the two put the grapes on the stone table into the bamboo basket.
Song Jingya had just picked three or four bunches and brought them over to put into the bamboo basket. The bamboo basket was only half a meter high but was already full.
"How big is this grape vine? I feel like I can pick a lot of grapes from just one vine."
Lu Jinghuai also looked at the grapevines, with a hint of nostalgia in his eyes: "It should be almost twenty years ago. I have been here since I was a child."
"No wonder." Lin Yan sighed and stopped. This basket of grapes was enough for them to eat.
"You often came to live in Huaicheng when you were a child."
"Yeah." Lu Jinghuai responded and moved the basket full of grapes into the house.
"My grandmother only has my mother as her daughter. Every summer vacation, my family would come here to spend time with her."
Lin Yan probably understood, nodded, and pulled Lu Yingqian into the house.
"Qianqian also lived here when she was a child. There is Qianqian's room upstairs. Do you want to go and see it?" Lu Jinghuai put down the grape frame and looked at Lu Yingqian when he remembered something.
Lu Yingqian was stunned for a moment, then nodded quickly.
Lu Jinghuai took the two of them upstairs. There were three rooms on the second floor. The room facing south was Lu Yingqian's. When they opened the door, the room came into view.
Grandma Lu's family is not a wealthy family, so the room is ordinary. It is not as big as the room in the Lu family, but it is particularly warm.
The bed was covered with pink cartoon-patterned quilts, and there was a table with a few picture books, an old-fashioned Barbie doll, and various rag dolls on it.
There was a light green window and a wardrobe next to the curtains. Lu Yingqian walked over and opened the wardrobe. There were all kinds of pretty little dresses, probably for girls of seven or eight years old.
"Because Qianqian looks like her mother, grandma loves Qianqian the most. She took her to buy these dresses and clothes."
As Lu Jinghuai introduced, Lu Yingqian also entered the room, opened the curtains and opened the windows for ventilation.
After all, no one has lived in this house for a while, and the air is very stuffy.
After coming out of Lu Yingqian's room, Lu Jinghuai took Lin Yan to Lu Jinghuai's room next door.
The two rooms are about the same size, the difference is that Lu Jinghuai's room doesn't have so many dolls. There is a simple globe and a few books on the table, but there is a basketball under the desk.
"You can play basketball?" Lin Yan looked at it in surprise.
Lu Jinghuai was silent for a moment: "I played a lot before college."
Lin Yan nodded in understanding.
[Yes, Lu Jinghuai was young once. I'm suddenly curious about what it's like for him to play basketball.]
Lu Jinghuai glanced at Lin Yan indifferently. What did he mean by he was young before? Is he very old now?
