Chapter 24: Parents
Gu Yunsu looked up his horoscope that day and saw this sentence: "Sometimes, even white lies can hurt people."
Her heart trembled, and she felt a little empty when she thought of her new and old loves.
But she later discovered that the matter involved two other men.
One night, after Wu Limei and Li Jianxiong had gone to bed, Gu Yunsu suddenly heard a light knock on the door. Because it was so light, she thought it was an illusion at first. She looked up at the watch and it was 15 minutes to 12 o'clock - this dangerous but not too weird time made her stop typing immediately. She didn't tremble, but she didn't dare to look back at the door. She waited for two seconds in a daze.
Two seconds later, there were two more "bang, bang" sounds, a little louder but still light, as if they were a joke.
Gu Yunsu got goosebumps.
She knew that there was another person named Li Yan at home, and she expected that it was Li Yan who came. But the problem was that Li Yan had never gone up to the second floor, so she had no idea who was standing outside the door at this moment.
Emotions outweighed reason, and she dared not move.
The door opened by itself...
“Fuck!”
Gu Yunsu swore that she didn't mean it, but when people think they have seen something dirty, their conditioned reflex is to swear, and the dirtier the words, the bolder they are. Really, if you don't believe it, you can go to a cemetery and try it. You will definitely swear words that you can't even imagine.
Li Yan was scolded as soon as he entered the room. He stood there and blinked innocently.
Gu Yunsu heaved a sigh of relief when he saw who was coming, but then he glared at her complainingly: "Why did you just push the door and walk in? What if I was asleep?"
Li Yan pointed at the crack in the door: "There is light underneath."
"That won't work either," Gu Yunsu took a deep breath with a lingering fear, "What can't be discussed on WeChat late at night?"
Li Yan: "I sent you a message, but you didn't reply."
Gu Yunsu then remembered that he had set a do not disturb timer after 11pm, and he no longer needed to check his phone to verify. He just pretended that he had never mentioned it and asked again, "So what's going on? Why is there such a big fuss?"
Li Yan: "Are you free tomorrow?"
"What?"
"Can I... go meet my homeroom teacher?"
It was too late, and Gu Yunsu was not very smart. He was puzzled for two seconds before he understood: "Are you asking the parents?"
Li Yan neither admitted nor denied it, and pursed his lips uncomfortably.
Gu Yunsu was amused: "Do you still feel embarrassed?"
Li Yan pretended not to hear and just asked, "Is it OK?"
Who among the young people is not afraid of asking for help from their parents? Gu Yunsu understood that he just didn't want to be scolded by Li Jianxiong. Even though his brother was 18 years old, he was still a child.
Moreover, he was willing to ask Gu Yunsu for help, which at least showed that he still trusted her. Gu Yunsu was very pleased, and a kind of revolutionary friendship arose spontaneously. She readily agreed: "Okay."
Only after meeting the head teacher did I realize what a tough job this was.
The head teacher was only a few years older than her, but she had a very high-pitched voice and chattered with Gu Yunsu like a human suona.
"Oh, I didn't know he had a sister. I think there shouldn't be any generation gap between us. We can communicate all of Li Yan's problems clearly."
Gu Yunsu smiled innocently: "Yes, yes, go ahead."
After all, there is no big problem, except that my grades are not good, especially recently: "It was fine at the beginning," said the head teacher, "but I don't know why it has dropped drastically in recent days. It's almost the end of the semester. If it continues like this, this year will be wasted again."
When Gu Yunsu heard this, he put the blame on the couple without hesitation, and sighed in his heart: Look at what this old couple has done to their child!
He responded by saying, "Something happened at home recently, and it may have affected him."
"That won't do," the head teacher gave her a reproachful look. "As a parent, the most important thing is to create a good environment for your children. To be honest, this is the most important year in a child's life. No matter how big a problem is, it should be put off until later!"
Who says it isn’t?
Gu Yunsu agreed in his heart, but the couple not only chose to get married this year, they also wanted to have a baby!
They are so ignorant that they should be the ones to listen to the advice and guidance of the head teacher.
The head teacher added, "We try our best to take care of them at school, but students are already this age, and to be honest, there are many things we can't take care of. Parents are definitely needed to help. When Li Yan entered the school, I also learned that your mother is busy, right? Then Ms. Li, you can only worry more."
Gu Yunsu: "It's okay, but my last name is Gu."
"What?" The head teacher didn't react for a moment.
"My last name is Gu, Ms. Gu."
"You're not Li Yan's biological sister? Cousin?"
"No, there is no blood relationship."
“…”
The head teacher had a confused look on his face, as if asking, "Who on earth are you to be qualified to be invited as a parent?" His expression was no longer as friendly as it was at the beginning.
Although Gu Yunsu is an adult, she is actually a little afraid of the teacher. Seeing that things were about to get out of hand, she became nervous and quickly added, "But we live together."
As soon as I said this I wanted to bite off my tongue. This is really making things worse!
Sure enough, the head teacher looked at her as if she were a mentally retarded person.
Don't panic, she encouraged herself in her heart.
But I have no idea where to start the story. Everything is difficult at the beginning. It is like writing a novel. You can write countless opening sentences, but which one is the most appropriate, the most vivid, can best express your central idea, or can win the readers' favor?
You toss and turn, you can't sleep all night, you can be stuck for half a month just because of this sentence.
Even though Gu Yunsu's hobby is not writing, she feels that everything in the world is too difficult to get started.
In a hurry, she could only say the easy-to-understand line that has been ruined by countless screenwriters: "This is it, let me explain it to you."
In the past, whenever she heard this line in a TV drama, she would think the script was poorly written. What's the point of adding the four words "let me explain" when the plot is just a matter of fact? Isn't this just padding to make up the word count?
But there are some things that cannot be understood without personal experience. When it really happened to her, she realized the emotions behind this sentence, the anxiety of wanting to comfort the other person but not being able to organize the words well, and the helplessness of having a blank mind due to anxiety.
What a genuine and earnest heart is hidden here!
She was ignorant in the past.
Salute to the scriptwriting teachers.
In just a dozen seconds, Gu Yunsu thought about this and that, his thoughts had already gone to Java, and then, he miraculously grasped the core of it all, and explained everything in one sentence: "My mother and Li Yan's father remarried."
"Oh! So that's what happened!" The head teacher suddenly realized and felt relieved, but after a while, he came to his senses and looked at Gu Yunsu with a little...
Gu Yunsu herself didn't know how to describe this look. She couldn't be sure what the other person was thinking, but judging from his expression, he wasn't complimenting her.
Ever since Wu Limei remarried, among all the people who knew about her situation, some teased her, some advised her, and some showed no response at all. But no one showed her this kind of "Your family is really weird. I don't want to play with you anymore" expression with a hint of...disdain to her face?
Quite fresh, she thought.
What else can I say?
Li Yan was still in class. She took a look at him from the window at the back door. He looked well-behaved and no different from any other student.
She left quietly, hiding all her achievements and fame.
Xu Wenbin happened to call her, so she told the story of how she had just scared her head teacher as a joke.
Xu Wenbin laughed and said, "I've learned something."
"What's the use of learning this?" Gu Yunsu smiled speechlessly, confused, "And what exactly did you learn?"
"Why is it useless? Just because it's not useful now doesn't mean it won't be useful in the future. Next time my boss wants to take advantage of me, I have to act like a weirdo who is not afraid of anything, so that others won't dare to mess with me again."
"Don't think I can't hear who is the weird one!"
The two of them were laughing and chatting happily.
But Gu Yunsu was not so relieved.
As long as the matter with Qin Yuxuan is not resolved, she will not be able to face Xu Wenbin with a clear conscience.
Although she had said this many times like Xianglin Sao, reason is something that is only useful when used to comfort others, but it never works on oneself.
Gu Yunsu just kept thinking about it over and over again, and couldn't make a decision.
After Qin Yuxuan made the job offer, what was deceptive was not only him as a person, but also the possibility of another life.
She will go to another city she has never been to, enter another career direction, start from scratch, make new friends, and live a new life. She may start over with Qin Yuxuan, but even if it is not him, there will be others. She and her lover will work together in a city where no parents can control them, and build their own family bit by bit.
The most important thing is that she can escape from her current life, leave this home, leave this kind of life of "living under someone else's roof, relying on others for food", and dealing with housework all day long.
She knows that taking care of her family is her responsibility, but she is only 28 years old and her life should have unlimited possibilities. She wants to achieve success in her career and enjoy the ups and downs of love. She wants to live like a young person.
She is indeed selfish, there is no need to argue about it, she herself admits it, but if a person can only live for others, then isn't his life too unfair?
It is easy to achieve financial independence. As long as she is willing to work hard, she can always find a job with a decent income. At least she can be self-sufficient and not starve to death.
It's just that she is too picky and greedy. She wants to have a dignified job, but also wants to realize her ideals and show her self-worth. She is a latecomer and without the guidance of an expert, she will probably be stuck in it for two or three years.
To a certain extent, Qin Yuxuan built a springboard and a shortcut for her, and she was actually very moved.
Moreover, now she has figured out that at least half of her obsession with her ex is caused by her unwillingness to give up, and it has been greatly resolved with the other party's initiative to return. It is true that she still has desire, but this kind of emotion based solely on hormones is not what she pursues. Now that the obsession is gone, it is much easier to forget.
It would be satisfying if I accepted the offer from the other party and then ruthlessly dumped him.
Qin Yuxuan was just too confident. She thought that Gu Yunsu was the legendary saint who could never "bear the heart" and was infinitely obsessed with him, so she dared to do such a thing that might lose both her wife and her army.
But Gu Yunsu is not yet hopeless.
If you are good to me, I will repay you with a spring of water; but if you were wronged by me first, don't blame me for repaying you with an eye for an eye.
She thought about it for a long time and hesitated, really hesitated.
But in the end, she sent a message to Qin Yuxuan: "Everything has its consequences, and I am the one who rejected you."
