Chapter 167 Small Dining Hall
After dinner
Lu Huailin massaged his wife's calves as she lay half-reclined on the bed.
Thinking back to the mealtime when the grandmother and granddaughter hadn't exchanged a single word, the grandmother asked in confusion, "Honey, did you and Grandma have a fight?"
Gu Yihan glanced at him and said irritably, "No."
Lu Huailin carefully observed his wife's expression; her eyes were darting around, clearly indicating she was lying. He then moved closer to her.
He pulled her into his arms and said, "Grandma is wiping away tears in the kitchen."
Gu Yihan felt wronged upon hearing this. Since becoming pregnant, her estrogen levels had been too high, and she couldn't bear even the slightest grievance.
Lu Huailin saw tears welling up in his wife's eyes and felt heartbroken.
He clumsily wiped away his wife's tears and gently coaxed her, "Wife, if you have any grievances, don't keep them to yourself. Tell me, and I'll stand up for you."
Gu Yihan buried her head in Lu Huailin's arms and told him the whole story of how Grandma Gu and Gu Meng met.
After listening carefully to his wife's story, Lu Huailin remained silent for a long time.
Gu Yihan muttered to herself, "Ever since Grandma came to our house, she won't let me lift a finger to cook or do any housework."
"It was my own fault for being too petty and not caring so much. Grandma never intended to help Gu Meng in the first place."
Lu Huailin looked down at the top of his wife's head, a smile playing on his lips.
My wife managed to cheer herself up and couldn't help but laugh.
Gu Yihan looked up and glared at him, pouting, "You're making fun of me."
Lu Huailin quickly shook his head and apologized, "Wife, I was wrong. I shouldn't have laughed out loud when I saw how cute you are."
Gu Yihan was taken aback. This man was getting sweeter and sweeter. She raised her chin, snorted coldly, and lay down with her back to him, ignoring him.
Looking at his wife's haughty demeanor, like a proud cat, Lu Huailin wanted to laugh but forced himself to hold it back.
However, his thoughts were different from Gu Yihan's; giving Gu Meng that little bit of money meant nothing to him.
He often has to go on missions, and his wife is due to give birth in a few months, so the family can't do without Grandma Gu's care.
After his wife finishes her postpartum confinement, she will have to go back to work, and the family will need Grandma Gu even more. As long as it can be solved with money, it's not a problem.
The next morning
Gu Yihan stretched and walked out of the bedroom, where she saw Grandma Gu and Lu Huailin putting breakfast on the dining table.
Gu Yihan called out to Grandma Gu, "Good morning, Grandma."
"Oh, good, good." Grandma Gu responded excitedly when her granddaughter greeted her as usual.
After washing up, Gu Yihan sat at the dining table, looking at the millet porridge, milk, and eggs on the table, but had no appetite at all.
What a terrible thing to do!
Who would believe it if I told them? She had actually had enough of such a lavish breakfast and was now craving the big meat buns from the state-run restaurant.
Lu Huailin glanced at his absent-minded wife, who hadn't eaten, and asked softly, "What's wrong? Didn't you like breakfast?"
"Cough, cough."
Upon hearing this, Grandma Gu choked on her porridge.
Gu Yihan quickly patted her back and asked worriedly, "Grandma, how is she?"
After a while, Grandma Gu waved to her granddaughter, indicating that everything was alright.
Then she glared at Lu Huailin and said, "What kind of family background do they have? And it's not to your liking."
"I would never have dared to dream of having this breakfast before. This is not a human life, it's a life of gods."
Gu Yihan: "..."
Lu Huailin wasn't upset when Grandma Gu scolded him. He patiently explained, "The doctor said that pregnant women have some unusual tastes."
Although Grandma Gu didn't quite believe Lu Huailin's statement, it wasn't like she hadn't given birth before.
In her generation, breakfast like this was unheard of. She didn't care whether it suited her taste or not; being able to eat her fill was good enough.
However, she still turned to look at her granddaughter, "Xiao Han, what do you want to eat? Tell me, and Grandma will make it for you."
Gu Yihan quickly shook her head. She wanted to eat the big steamed buns from the state-run restaurant. The ones she made at home didn't taste the same as the ones made by the chefs there, so she might as well not say anything.
Textile factory
Gu Yihan stepped into the office and saw that everyone was there; they had all arrived quite early.
After exchanging greetings, they returned to their seats.
Hu Shan sat in her seat, with no important documents to organize or print yet, so she was quite relaxed.
The entire office was slacking off all morning.
It was lunchtime.
Hu Shan walked enthusiastically to Gu Yihan's side and asked softly, "Xiaohan, are you going to the cafeteria for lunch?"
Gu Yihan looked up at Hu Shan with a puzzled expression, but the other woman was quite open about letting her look her over.
After the two came out of the office, Hu Shan took Gu Yihan's arm.
He whispered in her ear, "I'll take you to eat at the cafeteria."
Although Gu Yihan didn't understand why Hu Shan was being so enthusiastic, going to the cafeteria wasn't something just anyone could do.
She smiled slightly and nodded.
The two walked into the small kitchen. Secretary Jiang looked at Hu Shan and Gu Yihan with surprise, then smiled and said, "Director Gu, come and sit down."
Hu Shan let go of Gu Yihan's arm, walked to Secretary Jiang's side, took his arm, and said coquettishly, "Brother, Xiaohan and I will come here to eat in the future too."
"elder brother?"
Gu Yihan exclaimed in surprise.
Secretary Jiang glared at Hu Shan and deliberately scolded, "Stand still, you have no manners."
Then he turned to Gu Yihan with a smile and explained, "Hu Shan is my aunt's daughter. She's been spoiled at home."
Gu Yihan glanced at Hu Shan, who was making faces at her, and chuckled: "Sister Shan is great."
As the three were talking, a man walked in.
Cheng Bo's eyes lit up when he saw Gu Yihan's face. He walked over to Secretary Jiang and nudged his arm, asking, "Secretary Jiang, who is this?"
Secretary Jiang glanced at Cheng Bo and introduced him to Gu Yihan: "This is Director Yang's driver, Cheng Bo."
She glanced at Cheng Bo and introduced him to Gu Yihan, "This is Ms. Gu, the accounting officer in our factory."
Cheng Bo was so focused on Gu Yihan's face that his eyes lit up. He extended his hand and said, "Hello, Ms. Gu, my name is Cheng Bo."
"Hello, my name is Gu Yihan." Gu Yihan also extended her hand.
Hu Shan walked between the two and pulled Gu Yihan to sit down next to her.
She glared at Cheng Bo: "Are you blind? Didn't you see Xiaohan is pregnant?!"
Cheng Bo's smile froze, his gaze shifting to Gu Yihan's protruding belly, and his heart shattered instantly.
He looked at Secretary Jiang, on the verge of tears, realizing that the first woman he had ever liked had actually gotten married.
Secretary Jiang really didn't want to talk to Cheng Bo at all.
Knowing that Director Yang was busy today and wouldn't be able to come for dinner, the four of them sat down around a round wooden table.
Gu Yihan looked at the table and saw fish, meat, vegetables, and mushroom soup. This four dishes and one soup were much more plentiful than what was served in the main kitchen.
