Chapter 206 Paying Salaries
Lu Family Courtyard
Grandma Gu stepped on the chicken's wing, pinched the chicken's beak with her left hand, and held a knife in her right hand, gesturing back and forth across its neck.
He muttered to himself, "Chicken, don't be angry. You're just a dish in the mortal world. Go away early this year, and come back to lay eggs next year."
After muttering those words, he chopped down on the chicken's neck with the knife in his hand. Once it stopped thrashing about, he threw it into the porcelain basin.
When Tie Dan walked to the living room door to pick up the wooden toy gun that Hao Hao had thrown out, he saw Grandma Gu staring at the chicken in the porcelain basin with a pained expression.
He asked in confusion, "Grandma Gu, if you can't bear to kill her, why do you want to?"
Grandma Gu didn't answer Tie Dan's question, but instructed him, "Tie Dan, go back to your room and play with Hao Hao for a while. Grandma will make you some fried chicken tonight."
Upon hearing this, Tie Dan's eyes widened as he looked at Grandma Gu and exclaimed in surprise, "Really?"
Grandma Gu smiled and nodded: "I'm not lying to you."
Tie Dan was certain that Grandma Gu hadn't fooled him just because he was a child.
She nodded obediently, turned around and went into the living room to play with the little guy sitting on the floor.
Grandma Gu carried the pre-boiled hot water and poured it over the chicken.
She didn't want to kill the chicken, but seeing that the other chickens laid eggs every day, this chicken not only didn't lay eggs, but also stole food.
Would she agree? Those laying hens are precious treasures.
When Gu Yihan arrived home, she saw Grandma Gu sitting on a small stool in the yard, plucking the small feathers off the legs of the chickens in the porcelain basin.
She asked curiously, "Grandma, how could you bear to kill a chicken?"
Grandma Gu glanced at her little granddaughter.
He said irritably, "What can we do if we don't kill it? We've given it so much time, and it still hasn't laid any eggs."
Gu Yihan parked her bicycle, walked over to Grandma Gu, squatted down, and carefully examined the chicken feathers on the ground.
Just like the color Lu Huailin described, this chicken is quite old and has stopped laying eggs frequently, otherwise the troops wouldn't have been willing to eat it.
Gu Yihan's eyes darted around, thinking to herself, "No matter how much time you give it, it won't lay an egg!"
She stood up and fawned over Grandma Gu, "Grandma, is there anything I can help you with?"
Grandma Gu carefully examined the chicken, and after confirming there were no feathers, she stood up and refused, saying, "No need, you should go back inside and stay with Hao Hao."
Upon hearing this, Gu Yihan slapped her forehead and hurriedly walked towards the living room.
Pushing open the door, I saw Hao Hao giggling and hugging Tie Dan.
"Aunt Lu."
When Gu Yihan heard Tiedan call her "aunt," she was startled and quickly asked, "Tiedan, how old are you?"
Before Tie Dan could answer, Hao Hao, holding onto his arm, grinned and stood up shakily.
When Gu Yihan saw that Hao Hao could stand while holding onto things, her eyes were filled with joy, and she took two steps to walk to the little guy's side.
She bent down, picked him up, and kissed his smooth little face.
"Giggle giggle."
Tie Dan looked at Hao Hao, who was laughing out loud, with envy, and answered the question Gu Yihan had just asked him: "Aunt Gu, I'm seven years old."
Seven years old?
Gu Yihan looked down in surprise at Tie Dan, who had thin arms and legs and looked to be about five years old.
She sat on the mat on the ground with Hao Hao in her arms, took out three White Rabbit milk candies from her pocket and stuffed them into Tie Dan's hand.
She instructed him, "From now on, call me 'sister,' it doesn't sound nice to call me 'aunt.'"
Tie Dan looked at the White Rabbit milk candy in his hand. Was Hao Hao's mother bribing him with such a nice thing?
Isn't that a bit silly? He looked up at Gu Yihan, his eyes darting around.
A childish voice rang out: "Sister Han, you are so beautiful."
"What do you call me, sister?" Lu Huailin pushed open the door and looked meaningfully at his wife who was playing with his son.
Gu Yihan glanced at Lu Huailin, who had a mischievous grin on his face: "You're definitely not thinking anything good!"
Lu Huailin reached out and touched the top of Tiedan's head, laughing as he said, "Don't listen to your Aunt Lu."
Tie Dan raised his head and looked at Lu Huailin, saying, "I'll listen to Uncle Lu."
Lu Huailin smiled and walked to his wife's side, leaning down to whisper in her ear.
He whispered, "Wife, why don't you call me 'Uncle' tonight?"
After hearing what Lu Huailin said, Gu Yihan's face turned red instantly, and she glared at him.
It was already seven o'clock when we had dinner.
Grandma Gu placed a chicken leg in Tie Dan's bowl and smiled at Lu Huailin, saying, "Tiedan often comes to play with Hao Hao."
Tie Dan glanced at Lu Huailin, and seeing that he didn't look unhappy, smiled at Grandma Gu and said, "Thank you, Grandma Gu."
Lu Huailin looked at Tiedan, who was gnawing on a chicken leg, and a smile flashed in his eyes. He knew that Tiedan often came to his house to help Grandma Gu take care of the children.
While gnawing on a chicken wing, Gu Yihan said, "Grandma, this chicken you cooked is really delicious."
Grandma Gu watched her granddaughter eat with relish and said proudly, "Of course, not a drop of water was added, it's dry-fried."
Hao Hao sat on Lu Huailin's lap, smacking his lips as he chewed on a chicken leg with his baby teeth.
"Honey, you bought a good amount of chicken this time." Lu Huailin praised with a smile, finding the chicken delicious and the meat firm.
Gu Yihan: "..."
"These are chickens I've raised for almost two years," Grandma Gu said irritably.
Upon hearing this, Lu Huailin immediately looked at his wife and saw her nod at him.
He knew that the chicken he brought home had not escaped its final fate.
Half a month has passed.
April arrived quickly.
The accounting office was quite busy today; it's the beginning of the month, the day when factory workers collect their wages.
"Sister Min, just give me Cheng Bo's salary directly," Hu Shan said with a grin.
Minjie counted out Cheng Bo's salary and handed it to Hu Shan, asking her to sign her name.
He chuckled and joked, "Cheng Bo is so good to you, he even gives you his salary to manage."
After signing the papers, Hu Shan reached out to take the wages handed to her by Sister Min: "I'm his wife."
After saying that, he carefully counted the money and tickets on the spot. There was no discrepancy between the money and the tickets. He smiled at Sister Min and said, "Thank you, Sister Min."
People came and went in the office that day, and the office was busy until four o'clock in the afternoon.
Gu Yihan sat at her workstation, her hands clasped together, fidgeting with her fingers, which had cramped from counting money.
Su Yonghong placed Gu Yihan's salary on her desk and raised her voice: "It's good to be educated; your salary is higher than others!"
"Xiao Han's salary went up?" Sister Min looked at Su Yonghong in surprise upon hearing this.
Because of the special nature of the accounting department's job, which requires cross-calculation of salaries, Gu Yihan's salary was calculated by Su Yonghong.
Since Su Yonghong had brought it up in the office, Gu Yihan didn't feel the need to hide her raise.
He glanced at Sister Min and said calmly, "It's gone up."
Minjie's face instantly turned cold. What did this mean? Why was Gu Yihan's salary higher than theirs for the same job?
Su Yonghong, not wanting the matter to escalate enough, sarcastically remarked, "It's gone up by 15.5 yuan."
"What?" Minjie exclaimed, her eyes wide with disbelief as she looked at Gu Yihan.
