Chapter 303 The Sucker

Chapter 303 The Sucker

When Gu Yihan arrived home, she saw that the gate was open and knew that Lu Huailin had returned.

Pushing her bicycle into the yard, she saw Lu Huailin busy in the kitchen and asked with a smile, "What delicious food have you made?"

Lu Huailin: "Braised fish."

Upon hearing this, Gu Yihan looked at him in surprise and asked doubtfully, "Fish is usually in higher demand than meat at the grocery store!"

"You managed to snag this, impressive!"

Lu Huailin chuckled and said, "I didn't have time to go to the grocery store to buy fish; Zhou Jun gave it to me."

Upon hearing this, Gu Yihan assumed that Zhou Jun had caught the fish in the nearby river and looked at the fish in the pot.

This must weigh more than three pounds.

In March, when food is scarce, catching such a big fish is quite an achievement.

Seeing his wife staring intently at the fish in the pot, Lu Huailin assumed she was hungry and put the lid on the pot.

He put his arm around her waist and said with a smile, "You rest for a while, I'll go pick up Hao Hao, and we'll eat right away."

Gu Yihan looked up at Lu Huailin, tiptoed and kissed his cheek.

She casually took his arm and said, "I've missed you so much."

"real?"

Lu Huailin stared at Gu Yihan with bright, sparkling eyes, like a large lapdog.

Under his burning gaze, Gu Yihan nodded against her will and said, "Really!"

Lu Huailin excitedly picked up his wife around the waist, rushed to the bedroom, and then pressed himself against her.

The next day

Gu Yihan opened her eyes and saw Lu Huailin and Hao Hao lying on their sides sitting on the bed.

Why didn't you send Hao Hao to daycare?

Seeing that his wife was awake, Lu Huailin tossed the book aside and said, "I'm taking a break now, I'll stay home and take care of him for a few days."

When Hao Hao saw that his mother was awake, he grinned and climbed into her bed, wrapping his arms around her neck.

With a long, drawn-out tone, she said in a childish, coquettish voice, "Mommy..."

Before Gu Yihan could reply to Hao Hao, Lu Huailin carried him to the inside of the bed and covered him with a blanket.

"This is my wife, only I can hold her."

"That's my mom!" Hao Hao retorted defiantly.

"You brat, your mother is my wife."

Gu Yihan chuckled as she listened to the argument between the father and son.

She then stretched and yawned in bed, turned around and hugged Lu Huailin's waist.

He muttered, "I don't want to get out of bed, I don't want to go to work, I just want to lie down."

Lu Huailin chuckled upon hearing this, pulled his wife into his arms, and whispered, "How about we skip it today and just stay home and sleep all day?"

As he spoke, he placed his wife's hand in a place he wouldn't describe.

Gu Yihan felt the throbbing in her hand and jumped out of bed without saying a word, saying, "No, I still have work to do at the factory!"

Lu Huailin couldn't help but laugh as he watched his wife put on her clothes so efficiently.

...

Accounting Office

Gu Yihan was leisurely reading the newspaper when she sensed someone watching her. Looking up, she saw Hu Shan staring intently at her.

"What's wrong, Sister Shan?"

Upon hearing this, Hu Shan stood up, walked over to Gu Yihan, and leaned on her desk.

He whispered, "I saw your grandma at the entrance of the textile factory yesterday afternoon."

"Have you forgotten to give her her retirement money these past two months?"

At first, she didn't want to tell Gu Yihan about it, but when she saw Grandma Gu's wrinkled face, she softened.

Upon hearing this, Gu Yihan slapped her forehead, annoyed, and said, "I was so busy I forgot about something so important!"

She was away from home for the past two months because Lu Huailin was away on a mission.

She has to take time to do all the housework.

I have to get up early in the morning to take Hao Hao to daycare, and after get off work I have to hurry up and finish cooking to pick Hao Hao up.

And so, they neglected Grandma Gu's side.

Hu Shan sighed and said, "I reckon your grandma will come again this afternoon, so I'm letting you know."

Gu Yihan looked at Hu Shan, feeling a warmth in her heart, and said, "Thank you, Sister Shan."

Hu Shan felt embarrassed by Gu Yihan's earnest thanks, stood up and waved her hand, saying, "You're too kind."

After saying that, he returned to his seat as if nothing had happened.

...

Textile factory gate

Gu Yihan pushed her bicycle out and saw Grandma Gu standing at the door, rubbing her hands and stamping her feet.

She walked over quickly, took Grandma Gu's hand in one hand, and exclaimed, "Grandma, why are your hands so cold?"

Grandma Gu looked at her little granddaughter, her nose tingled, and tears welled up in her eyes. She choked out, "Xiao Han, Grandma has no money left."

Upon seeing this, Gu Yihan's eyes instantly reddened.

It would be a lie to say I wasn't angry with Grandma Gu, but seeing her pitiful state, all my anger vanished.

He quickly took out twenty yuan and a ticket from his pocket and stuffed them into his hand.

He instructed, "Grandma, if there's anything you want to eat, buy it and hide it so no one else finds it!"

“Your granddaughter is so filial to you. I don’t mind if you eat it, but it’s unimportant to give it to someone else.”

Gu Yihan paused for a moment before saying, "My granddaughter will think you're taking advantage of me."

Upon hearing this, Grandma Gu silently shed tears.

She knew that the unimportant people her granddaughter was referring to were Kang Long and Qin Shou.

"knew."

After saying that, Grandma Gu felt so cold that she couldn't stop shivering.

Gu Yihan saw Grandma Gu shiver, and pinched her cotton coat with her hand, feeling that it was only a thin layer.

His face instantly turned cold, and he quickly reached out to touch her cotton pants, which were also just a thin layer.

"Grandma, where's the cotton stuffing in your clothes?"

"I... the cotton was a little yellow, so I took it apart and washed it." Grandma Gu lowered her head, not daring to look her granddaughter in the eye.

Upon hearing this, Gu Yihan felt that Grandma Gu was treating her like a fool.

"You mean the cotton is turning yellow?"

"This cotton-padded coat is made from brand new, snow-white cotton that I exchanged at the nearby brigade. I personally watched them finish making it before asking Hu Shan to bring it to you!"

"My granddaughter isn't so bad as to not be able to tell the difference between white and yellow!"

Gu Yihan's face turned green with anger. What kind of situation was this?

The cotton she worked so hard to get was given away to some bastard.

The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. He didn't want to say another word to Grandma Gu, so he nodded, pushed his bicycle, and prepared to go back.

Grandma Gu quickly stopped her granddaughter and said with her head down, "I pulled out the cotton myself and made a cotton-padded coat for Kanglong."

Gu Yihan was even angrier upon hearing this: "Wouldn't Qin Shou buy him cotton? Why would you need to take apart his clothes?"

Grandma Gu quickly waved her hand and explained, "He bought some, but the cotton yield was low this year, and he couldn't buy any at several supply and marketing cooperatives and department stores."

"Nai Shi couldn't bear to see the child get cold, so she took out her own cotton padding first."

Gu Yihan just looked at Grandma Gu quietly, her eyes full of disappointment.

She knew that cotton production was low this year. Why didn't she consider that even the supply and marketing cooperatives and department stores couldn't buy cotton?

She went from house to house asking how many families needed the cotton to make her a thick cotton-padded coat.

Grandma Gu saw that Gu Yihan's face was ashen and worried that she might think that Gu Yihan was trying to gain sympathy.

She explained in a low voice, "Kanglong is too young. A cold can be fatal. Grandma is an adult, so a little cold won't hurt her. It won't kill her."

"So, the lady really didn't wear so little on purpose. She was just trying to gain sympathy."

"If you really wanted to gain sympathy, you would have brought milk before the New Year."

Upon hearing this, Gu Yihan glanced at Grandma Gu, wondering if she was deliberately pretending not to know the reason for her anger.

He said, "Alright, I was just being nosy."

After saying that, he got on his bicycle and left without looking back.
