Chapter 37 Escape
Liang Ge went out, and Gu Yihan slowly opened her eyes, just in time to see his back as he walked in another direction.
She wept with joy; he had gone out, not to see another cave.
Gu Yihan sat up nimbly, her hands trembling as she untied the bindings on her feet. She hurriedly got up, but because she had been tied up for too long, her body went out of control and she fell to the ground again.
Gu Yihan rested for a while, gradually adjusting to her body, and stood up. She walked carefully and slowly until she could walk normally again.
Her heart pounded as she ran to another cave and found five children inside.
She patted each of the children hard with her hands and whispered, "Wake up." But there was no response.
She immediately used a knife to untie the children from their restraints.
The cut rope was loosely hung back where it was originally tied, thus re-disguising it.
Gu Yihan knew that she couldn't save them right now, and this was all she could do.
Before leaving the cave, she turned to look at the children one last time, and tears welled up in her eyes and streamed down her face uncontrollably.
Gu Yihan steeled her heart and carefully stepped out of the cave, her eyes stinging from the bright sunlight outside.
However, before Gu Yihan could think, she heard a sound coming from the bushes and, not daring to delay, ran in the opposite direction.
Gu Yihan ran frantically, her arm scraped by tree branches, but she felt no pain.
The mountain was too big, and she couldn't tell which way was which. She could only rely on her senses and keep running in one direction.
Gu Yihan was only looking ahead when she accidentally slipped and fell, her body tilting and rolling uncontrollably to the ground.
She covered her head with her hands, letting her body roll down due to inertia.
When Gu Yihan's body stopped rolling, she ignored the pain and continued running in one direction. She didn't know how long she ran, only that she felt short of breath and her chest was very uncomfortable.
She felt she couldn't hold on any longer, but thinking of the children in the cave, she kept running until she finally saw the path down the mountain.
Gu Yihan stood on the road at the foot of the mountain, feeling extremely lost. She looked around at this place, which was in the middle of nowhere, with no villages or shops in sight, and she didn't know which direction to go.
All I could do was rely on my willpower to slowly walk in one direction, looking at the road that seemed to have no end in sight.
Gu Yihan couldn't control herself and squatted down on the road, breaking down in tears. She cried because she had finally managed to escape, but it seemed like she couldn't save those children anymore.
"Beep, beep, beep," Gu Yihan heard the car horn and ran towards the sound.
After running for a while, they saw a military jeep. Gu Yihan disregarded her own safety and threw herself in front of the jeep.
"Screech..." Gu Yihan found the screeching sound of the jeep braking suddenly quite pleasant.
Xiao Wu, who was driving, turned to Lu Huailin, the deputy commander, and said, "Commander, a woman is blocking the car."
Gu Yihan didn't have time to wait, and quickly ran to the back door of the car and banged on the window.
She cried and patted the door, shouting, "Help!"
Lu Huailin looked at the woman desperately pounding on the car window, her body disheveled, her beautiful face streaked with tears. A thought struck him, and he decided to open the car door.
"Commander, how could there be a woman in such a remote place? Could it be intentional?" Xiao Wu asked worriedly.
Several soldiers in their unit, after kindly saving people, were then entangled with village girls who forced them to marry them.
Lu Huailin did not respond to Xiao Wu, and automatically opened the car door. Gu Yihan looked at the open car door.
She grabbed the other person's hand: "Quick, go to the police station to report a case. There are human traffickers in the mountains, and there are children involved."
Gu Yihan mustered her last strength to finish speaking, then everything went black before she fainted as her defenses crumbled.
Lu Huailin instinctively hugged the woman and placed her in the back seat of the car.
Lu Huailin ordered, "Xiao Wu, go to the Kuncheng Public Security Bureau."
Xiao Wu heard Gu Yihan's words and, without delay, replied, "Received, Commander." He quickly started the jeep and drove towards the Kuncheng Public Security Bureau.
After the car arrived at the Kuncheng Public Security Bureau, Lu Huailin quickly walked to Director Fu's office and told him that Gu Yihan had told him about the situation.
Fu Juchang took it very seriously, saying, "We received a report today that several children have gone missing here. These human traffickers are too brazen."
After saying that, he left the office and arranged for people to search for the person in the mountainous area of Kuncheng.
When Director Fu returned to his office, he saw Lu Huailin sitting inside waiting for him.
He stepped forward, patted her on the shoulder, and said, "Xiao Lu, the station is short-handed. The mountains are so big, searching aimlessly is a waste of manpower. Where is the person who reported the case? Could you ask him to show us the way?"
Lu Huailin recalled the pale little face lying in his arms: "Tell me, she's still unconscious? She can't lead the way."
Director Fu looked at him suspiciously: "Where is he?"
Lu Huailin said expressionlessly, "It's in my car. I haven't had time to take it to the hospital yet. I'm in a hurry, so I'll stop here first."
Director Fu looked Lu Huailin up and down: "A man? Is it serious? I'll arrange for someone to take him to the hospital."
Lu Huailin thought of the woman's exposed skin, which had been torn by tree branches, and his heart tightened. He said, "We checked her, she's just exhausted. We'll take her to our military hospital later."
"I'm going back to my unit now."
Director Fu looked at Lu Huailin's back and said, "Your old man asked your sister-in-law to introduce you to someone. Don't forget to come for the blind date next Sunday."
Lu Huailin said without turning his head, "No need to trouble you, sister-in-law."
Opening the car door, Lu Huailin instructed Xiao Wu, "Xiao Wu, go to the military hospital."
Xiao Wu glanced at Gu Yihan in the back seat and said, "Okay."
Upon arriving at the entrance of the military hospital, Lu Huailin carefully lifted Gu Yihan from the back seat and found his childhood friend Shen Yujie.
Shen Yujie looked at the barbarian who had entered without knocking and was carrying someone in his arms, and said, "How come our cold-faced Yama knows how to be gentle with women now?"
Lu Huailin ignored what he said: "What nonsense are you talking about? Arrange a bed for her; she's still unconscious."
Upon hearing that the patient was a patient, Shen Yujie stopped joking and quickly arranged a bed for him and began arranging for examinations.
He returned to his office with the test results, saw that the barbarian was still there, and clicked his tongue, saying, "This little girl has a large amount of sedative in her body, and has multiple abrasions on her body, which should have been caused by tree branches while running."
"Her limbs are exhausted. It is estimated that she will need to rest for a few days after waking up before she can walk again. There are no other major problems."
Lu Huailin handed the inspection report to the barbarian, took it, and said, "I can't understand it, so it's useless for you to give it to me."
Shen Yujie looked at him with suspicion and said, "Judging from the drug residue on this girl's body, she shouldn't be able to wake up so quickly."
Lu Huailin looked at him as if he were an idiot: "You're asking me? Who am I supposed to ask? I don't know her."
Shen Yujie looked Lu Huailin up and down and said, "This isn't like you. You don't know her, so why would you kindly hug a young girl? I think you have ulterior motives."
Lu Huailin didn't argue with his brainless childhood friend. How desperate must he be to get such lustful thoughts about a little girl? That girl looked very young, with baby fat.
Lu Huailin never imagined that in the near future, his thoughts about today would be so embarrassing.
