Chapter 109 Beating up Du Xiao
Qi Yanran followed the soldier into the investigation room with trepidation. Pushing open the door, she saw Du Xiao with red eyes explaining something to Brigade Commander Zhang.
Du Xiao saw Qi Yanran walk quickly to her side, a smug look flashing in her eyes.
But she choked up as she said, "Yanran, I helped you send the letter to Gujia Village."
“You need to explain this to Commander Zhang and the others. That letter was written by you, and the handwriting is yours. It can’t be faked.”
Commander Zhang looked at Qi Yanran with a deep gaze and asked, "Why did you write a letter to Zhou Jianguo?"
Qi Yanran's face instantly turned pale. Yesterday, she had heard the military wives whispering that the people who went to Gu Yihan's house to cause trouble had been arrested, and she had started to worry.
Qi Yanran couldn't find an excuse and didn't know how to reply.
Her lips trembled as she looked at Brigade Commander Zhang and said in a voice barely above a whisper, "I just wanted to help..."
Brigade Commander Zhang's face turned cold. He snorted and slammed the letter onto the table in front of him.
He shouted angrily at Qi Yanran, "You're a female soldier in the cultural troupe, don't you know that breaking up a military marriage is illegal?"
"You even offered high prices and gave them advice, telling them to report Gu Yihan to the Revolutionary Committee. How can you face your parents?"
When Qi Yanran heard Brigade Commander Zhang say that he had asked Zhou Jianguo to report Gu Yihan, she suddenly looked up at Du Xiao in disbelief.
She then turned to look at Brigade Commander Zhang, shaking her head with a bewildered expression, and explained, "I did not have Gu Yihan's biological father report her."
Brigade Commander Zhang saw Qi Yanran's actions and knew that Du Xiao's instigation was undoubtedly a factor.
Du Xiao lowered her head, trying hard to control her facial expression. She thought to herself, "Qi Yanran, you can't blame me. You can only blame yourself for being too stupid and naive."
"Of all people to like, why did you have to like Lu Huailin, who's already married? Now I'll have a chance to get rid of you."
A cold voice came from Du Xiao's ear: "Get out."
She looked up in confusion, only to see Brigade Commander Zhang staring straight at her with eyes devoid of any warmth.
Du Xiao pointed to herself timidly and asked Commander Zhang in a low voice, "Are you asking me to leave?"
Brigade Commander Zhang didn't even bother to reply to Du Xiao, he just nodded slightly.
Lin Xiao felt uneasy. She reached out and opened the door, trying to recall if she had done anything to annoy Commander Zhang.
Investigation Room
Only Qiao Yanran and Brigade Commander Zhang remained in the room, and it fell silent for a moment.
After sitting down, Brigade Commander Zhang looked at Qi Yanran, who was standing to the side pretending to be a quail with her head down, and said in a cold tone, "You can't stay in the Kuncheng Military Region anymore."
Qi Yanran's eyes reddened as she looked up at Commander Zhang and said aggrievedly, "Uncle Zhang, I was wrong. I will never dare to do it again."
Brigade Commander Zhang glanced at Qiao Yanran, his voice cold and hard: "Yanran, you should know this."
"If it wasn't me investigating this matter, but someone else, what would be the consequences for you?"
“Disrupting military marriages, misconduct, instigating whistleblowing—any one of these can get you discharged from the military and recorded as a major demerit in your file.”
Hearing the tone of Commander Zhang's voice, Qi Yanran knew there was no room for negotiation, and this time her tears truly fell in a steady stream.
When Brigade Commander Zhang saw Qiao Yanran crying, he sighed and said, "Yanran, I was the one who helped you come to Kuncheng back then."
“This time, Aunt Zhang transferred you to another military region. You’re not a child anymore. Learn from your mistakes and be more discerning when making friends.”
Commander Zhang had been working non-stop these days, and his head was throbbing badly. He closed his eyes and raised his hand to rub his temples.
He then waved to Qi Yan and said, "Go back to the art troupe and pack your things."
Qi Yanran stood there hesitantly, and Brigade Commander Zhang opened his eyes and looked at her with a puzzled expression: "Is there anything else?"
Qi Yanran whispered, "I need Uncle Zhang to tell my parents."
Commander Zhang said in a slightly tired voice, "I understand, you can leave now."
Cultural Troupe Dormitory
Qi Yanran was about to ask Du Xiao about Zhou Jianguo's plan to report Gu Yihan when she was about to push open the dormitory door.
From inside came Du Xiao's maniacal laughter: "Haha... Qi Yanran, you're finished. I'll teach you to be arrogant and look down on me."
"You give me something you don't need and expect me to be grateful? Haha... I've finally brought you down."
"I'll wait and see you fall from your high position into the mud."
"I'm giving you a little charity so you can experience what it feels like to be humiliated and have your self-esteem trampled underfoot."
Qi Yanran gripped the door frame tightly. She had always considered Du Xiao her best friend, never expecting that the other person had always thought this way about her.
"Clang."
Du Xiao was sitting on her bed in the dormitory when she was startled by the sudden opening of the door and saw Qiao Yanran walk in with a blank expression.
She was extremely flustered, wondering if Qiao Yanran had heard what she said.
She immediately stood up and walked towards the other person, smiling ingratiatingly, "Yanran, when did you get back?"
"I was really worried about you. Now that you're back, does that mean everything's alright?"
Qi Yanran did not answer her question. Instead, she slowly walked up to Du Xiao, raised her arm, and slapped her across the face.
Du Xiao was slapped to the ground, stunned by Qi Yanran's sudden slap.
Du Xiao covered her burning face with her hands, her eyes unfocused. She looked up at Qiao Yanran and said, "What right did you have to hit me?"
Qiao Yanran didn't reply to her. She looked down at Du Xiao and raised her arm to slap her again.
Before Du Xiao could stand up, Qiao Yanran kicked her in the chest again.
Qi Yanran leaned down, pinched Du Xiao's chin, admired the handprint on her face from left to right, and sneered, "This way it's symmetrical and looks good."
"Ah...ah...Qi Yanran, I'm going to kill you!" Du Xiao quickly got up and rammed into the other person.
Qi Yanran dodged and kicked Du Xiao in the shin, sending her sprawling face-first into the dirt.
Before Du Xiao could get up, Qi Yanran took a long stride and straddled her lower abdomen, controlling her hand with one hand.
While slapping Du Xiao across the face, he cursed, "You little bitch, I'll teach you to pretend. You know perfectly well why I hit you."
"Ah... Qi Yanran, you shrew, the commander won't let you get away with this." Du Xiao used his other hand to stop Qi Yanran.
Qi Yanran finally got tired of hitting, stood up, and clapped her hands.
She looked at Du Xiao, who was lying on the ground pretending to be dead, and sneered, "You think I'm afraid?"
"I'm being transferred soon. Before I leave, you'd better avoid me if you see me, or I'll beat you up every time I see you."
Qi Yanran opened the dormitory door, walked to the door, and then turned to Du Xiao, who was lying on the ground, and said, "I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you."
"Even if I'm discharged from the military, I'm still the apple of the Qi family's eye. How could I be so destitute that you have to give me charity?"
"Without me, you are nothing, forever a piece of mud that needs to crawl at other people's feet."
After saying that, Qi Yanran slammed the door and left.
Du Xiao lay there for a while before slowly getting up and letting out a sinister laugh.
She gently touched her swollen face and murmured softly, "What if your Qi family falls? Will you still be the apple of your eye?"
