Chapter 298 Giving Up

Chapter 298 Giving Up

As the New Year approaches

In the accounting office, Gu Yihan was busy preparing the balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and cost statement.

Zhang Limin and Wang Guixiang reviewed the year's costs and total accounts.

The sound of abacus beads clattering in the office never stopped all morning.

Hu Shan leisurely read the newspaper while sipping her tea.

He glanced at the busy group of people and felt a surge of relief.

Fortunately, she didn't listen to her parents' advice to study accounting, otherwise she would have been the one busy before the end of the year.

He tilted his head back, a hint of smugness in his voice, and said, "It's a good thing I didn't study accounting, otherwise I would be exhausted by the end of the year."

Upon hearing this, Wang Guixiang closed the ledger she had just finished reviewing, rested her eyes, and raised her hand to press her temples.

He sighed and said, "Our textile factory is much better than the garment factories in the provincial capital!"

"You wouldn't believe it, but at the garment factory in the provincial capital, no matter how busy we are, we still attend political study sessions twice a week without fail, reading newspapers and sharing our thoughts."

"There's not a single moment of leisure."

After finishing speaking, feeling that he had rested enough, he picked up another general ledger and began to audit it.

After saying a few words, Hu Shan and Wang Guixiang went back to their busy work.

She was all alone and a little bored, so she unconsciously scribbled on the paper with her pen.

I was stunned for a moment when I saw what was written on it.

He quickly tore the paper off the notebook, crumpled it up, and threw it in the trash can.

She felt inexplicably annoyed; how could she have written the name of Secretary Chang, that snobbish person?

Until after lunch

On their way back to the office, Gu Yihan and Hu Shan ran into Secretary Chang.

He greeted her with a smile: "Secretary Chang."

Upon hearing this, Secretary Chang paused, then greeted Gu Yihan with a smile, "Director Gu, I heard you know Ya Jing?"

Gu Yihan was stunned when she heard this, her heart skipped a beat, and she glanced at Hu Shan.

"Secretary Chang, are you referring to Li Yajing?"

Secretary Chang nodded with a smile.

Gu Yihan was about to answer that she knew when she felt a pressure on her arm.

He smiled and said, "Secretary Chang, I haven't seen the person, so I can't be sure if the person you're talking about is the same person I know!"

Secretary Chang glanced at Hu Shan, who was standing next to Gu Yihan, out of the corner of her eye.

A knowing glint flashed in his eyes, and he smiled, saying, "You guys are busy, I'll be going now."

Hu Shan was already annoyed that Secretary Chang didn't greet her, but before leaving, he didn't even glance at her.

I'm a little bit dissatisfied.

He muttered to himself, "What kind of person is he? Such an impolite person, and he still wants to marry her?"

"Let whoever wants to marry me marry me, I don't care anyway."

Gu Yihan's ears twitched slightly. She turned her head to look at Hu Shan and asked in confusion, "Sister Shan, what did you just say?"

Upon hearing this, Hu Shan glanced up at Gu Yihan and casually replied, "It's nothing, let's go!"

He then lowered his eyes, though he said he didn't care, he was still very disappointed.

She may not actually like Secretary Chang.

But when I heard him ask Gu Yihan about other female comrades, I still felt a little uncomfortable.

On the way back, the two of them didn't say a word.

Gu Yihan wasn't one to make small talk; she believed in avoiding trouble.

So even though she could tell that Hu Shan was in a bad mood, she didn't ask why.

Hu Shan was somewhat absent-minded throughout the afternoon.

I have a feeling that Secretary Chang's attitude is off.

It has been more than a month since she published the notice in the newspaper severing ties with Cheng Bo.

Logically speaking, if their two families decide to form a marriage alliance, the wedding should be on the agenda, since Secretary Chang is not young anymore.

Why hasn't she received any messages from her parents yet?

Or has something changed at home?

After thinking it over, she decided to take the initiative.

After get off work

Gu Yihan had just finished packing her handbag when she glanced up and saw Hu Shan's hurried figure, a hint of doubt flashing in her eyes.

"What's wrong with Xiao Shan?"

"All afternoon, he was either frowning or sighing," Wang Guixiang said curiously.

Zhang Limin rubbed her eyes, glanced at Hu Shan's spot, and said indifferently, "Who knows?"

Gu Yihan guessed that Hu Shan had probably gone to see Secretary Chang.

He sighed silently to himself.

I'm afraid Hu Shan will be disappointed.

Because she could tell that Secretary Chang had no intention of marrying Hu Shan.

On the other side

Hu Shan was so engrossed in her thoughts that she forgot to knock and simply pushed the door open and went inside.

Secretary Chang frowned slightly upon hearing the sudden sound of the door opening and looked up at Hu Shan.

A cold glint flashed in his eyes: "Officer Hu, do you have something to say?"

Hu Shan stared at Secretary Chang's expressionless face and suddenly remembered that she hadn't knocked.

A sense of panic welled up inside me. Would he think I was ill-mannered?

Standing in the center of the office, he subconsciously tugged at the hem of his clothes, like a child who had made a mistake.

He whispered, "Could I use your office phone?"

Upon hearing this, Secretary Chang stood up, walked to the sofa, sat down, and said coldly, "Use it!"

Upon hearing this, Hu Shan quickly ran to her desk, picked up the phone, and dialed her father's office number.

No one answered?

Hu Shan glanced at the watch on her wrist.

That shouldn't be the case.

After thinking about it, I changed my home phone number.

Hu Family in the Provincial Capital

Mr. Hu carefully helped Mrs. Hu sit down on the sofa.

He added worriedly, "Why don't you take a day off and rest at home?"

Hu's mother glanced at Hu's father.

She said irritably, "What nonsense are you talking about? You've only been on leave for less than four months. I wonder what my colleagues at the hospital will say about me."

After saying that, she reached out and touched her still-flat belly, and said, "I really didn't expect that I could get pregnant at my age."

Upon hearing this, Mr. Hu couldn't help but laugh out loud: "You're only forty-two years old, you're still young!"

Upon hearing this, Mrs. Hu raised her eyes and spat at Mr. Hu, "You old lecher! If you hadn't insisted on having a second child, how could I have..."

Then, thinking of Hu Shan, Hu's mother swallowed the rest of her words.

Seeing this, Mr. Hu smiled but said nothing.

Since Hu Shan married Cheng Bo, he has abandoned this daughter.

The Hu family has worked hard for generations; how could they possibly let outsiders benefit from it all?

Hu's mother began to actively improve her health and sought out traditional Chinese medicine practitioners specializing in this area to prescribe medicine to help her conceive.

Finally, their wish came true.

"Ring ring..."

When Mr. Hu heard the phone ring, he smiled and told Mrs. Hu, "Sit down and rest, don't move around. I'll go cook in a bit."

After saying that, he stood up and answered the phone.

"dad……"

Upon hearing Hu Shan's voice, a hint of impatience flashed in Hu's father's eyes, and he said in a flat tone, "What do you want?"

Hu Shan was stunned when she heard her father's tone and attitude, and asked in a low voice, "Dad, what's wrong?"

Upon hearing this, Mr. Hu chuckled softly, "You're asking me what's wrong?"

Why don't you ask yourself what you've done?

Hu Shan was bewildered and said, "I didn't do anything!"
