Chapter 214 Wake Up
The weekend arrived in the blink of an eye.
Grandma Gu was in the living room taking scissors to dismantle the quilt. In another half month, it would be May, and the weather would gradually warm up.
We've already switched to thinner blankets at home, so we don't need such a thick one.
Taking advantage of Gu Yihan's weekend rest, she quickly disassembled and cleaned it before putting it away.
"Crunch"
Grandma Gu heard the door open, looked up at her granddaughter, and stood at the bedroom door holding the little one.
"Wow, why are you up so early today?" she asked in surprise.
After saying that, she looked up at the clock on the table; it was only seven o'clock.
Gu Yihan walked past Grandma Gu, sat down on the sofa, and looked resentfully at Hao Hao, who had his arms around her neck.
"That brat woke me up with a slap."
Grandma Gu quickly put down the quilt she was holding and went to her granddaughter's side: "Did you slap her face?"
Grandma Gu knew her well; she wouldn't wake up so early on a weekend if she wasn't in pain.
Gu Yihan nodded, looking at Grandma Gu with a wronged expression.
In her dream, she was anxiously searching for a toilet when the little guy slapped her in the face, almost scaring her so much she peed herself.
"Come here, let Great-Grandma hold you." Grandma Gu clapped her hands and reached out to the little guy.
Hao Hao had no idea that his mother was in a bad mood.
She grinned, revealing six tiny baby teeth, and opened her arms wide, giggling at Grandma Gu.
Grandma Gu smiled and hugged Hao Hao, telling her granddaughter, "The kitchen has saved some food for you."
Gu Yihan nodded, rubbing her dry face as she walked.
Last night, after washing up, I was dragged along by Lu Huailin and we stayed up too late, so I didn't have time to apply face cream.
"Thump, thump, thump."
Gu Yihan heard the knocking and peeked out from the kitchen, only to find that Grandma Gu had not come out.
I walked to the gate and opened it.
Seeing Su Nian looking at her with a smile, she asked, "Gu Yihan, wanna buy some chicken?"
Gu Yihan smiled and said, "Sister Su, you can just call me Xiaohan."
Su Nian nodded and changed her question: "Xiao Han, do you want chicken?"
Gu Yihan: "Where to buy it?"
As soon as Su Nian heard Gu Yihan ask this question, she knew that Gu Yihan was interested.
She quickly told Zhou Jun that the canteen had live chickens today, and they could sell a dozen or so to military wives, but it was first come, first served.
Gu Yihan's eyes lit up when she heard this. That's great! She can buy chicken to improve her meals without leaving the family compound.
"Sister Su, please wait a moment."
She turned and ran towards the living room, pushed open the door and called out to Grandma Gu, "Grandma, I'm going out for a bit, I'll be right back."
Grandma Gu was feeding Hao Hao egg custard. She nodded and said perfunctorily, "Okay."
Gu Yihan and Su Nian went to the cooking camp. When they arrived, several military wives were already picking out hens.
Su Nian pointed to one in the middle: "How about the one with the red string on its back?"
Gu Yihan's eyes were dazzled by so many chickens; she was suffering from decision paralysis, as they all seemed the same to her.
Su Nian muttered to herself, "No, that chicken is too fat; it's not suitable for making soup."
Gu Yihan turned her head and looked at her in surprise, asking in confusion, "You can tell that this chicken isn't suitable for making soup?"
Upon hearing this, Su Nian laughed: "Braising is fine, but making soup with it is too oily."
Gu Yihan was stunned for a moment when she heard Su Nian's words.
Her family used to have many servants to wait on her; she was a pampered young lady who never lifted a finger and couldn't cook a single meal.
Now you can tell what ingredients are suitable for?
Seeing Gu Yihan's expression, Su Nian couldn't help but laugh: "Alright, hurry up and pick a pretty one."
Finally, after discussing it, Gu Yihan bought a dog with a red tail, and Su Nian bought a dog with a black tail.
On the way back.
Gu Yihan listened attentively to Su Nian's ramblings, learning that she had given birth to two children after getting married in the past few years.
The older boy is four years old, and the younger girl is seven months old. Her sister-in-law lives with them and helps take care of the children.
afternoon
"Commander Lu."
Lu Huailin stopped and turned to look at Zhou Jun when he heard him shout.
Zhou Jun quickened his pace and walked to Lu Huailin's side. Seeing that Lu Huailin was carrying a hen in his left hand, he asked in confusion, "Didn't your sister-in-law buy a chicken?"
Upon hearing this, Lu Huailin's eyes narrowed slightly. He himself didn't even know his wife had bought chickens, so how did Zhou Jun know?
Seeing that Lu Huailin's face had turned cold, Zhou Jun quickly explained, "My wife said this morning that she was going to go pick out chickens with my sister-in-law."
Lu Huailin's lips curled up, and his complexion improved considerably.
Knowing that Su Nian had taken the initiative to befriend his wife, he felt a slight pang in his heart. He still hoped that his wife would have friends she could chat with in the family compound.
His tone was gentle as he said, "Our two families live close by, so we can get together more often in the future."
Zhou Jun has risen from the bottom, and besides being highly capable, he is also adept at interpersonal relationships.
He subtly closed the distance with Lu Huailin, smiling as he said, "Our two families are quite destined to meet."
Lu Huailin looked at Zhou Jun in surprise: "Fate? What do you mean by that?"
Zhou Jun was surprised: "Didn't your wife tell you?"
When he got home last night, Su Nian grabbed his arm and said excitedly, "Gu Yihan from the family compound and her classmate."
As a soldier from a rural area, he married a beautiful, highly educated woman from a good family, which made the people in his hometown extremely envious.
He himself thought it was because his ancestors had burned incense so kindly, but he only found out last night that the incense was burned by Gu Yihan.
"say what?"
Zhou Jun snapped back to reality upon hearing Lu Huailin's question.
Looking at him with a smile in his eyes, she said, "Thanks to my sister-in-law, I was able to marry such a wonderful wife as Su Nian."
"Oh, I already said so," Lu Huailin said casually.
Although she didn't know what Zhou Jun meant, she would definitely not let him make a fool of himself.
Lu Huailin thought to himself.
...
Grandma Gu was carrying a plate of braised chicken when she stepped out of the kitchen and saw Lu Huailin throw the chicken directly into the middle of the yard.
"Xiao Lu, you bought one too?"
Seeing the pained look on Grandma Gu's face, Lu Huailin laughed and said, "Grandma, I just wanted to buy you a chicken to help you recover from all the hard work you've put into managing the household."
Gu Yihan heard the commotion in the courtyard and had just stepped out of the living room when she overheard what Lu Huailin was saying.
Seeing the corners of Grandma Gu's mouth instantly turn up, she couldn't help but secretly give her a thumbs up.
The family sat at the dining table, enjoying their dinner together.
Grandma Gu grumbled, "Haohao is growing up so fast. There will be many more expenses in the future, so we need to be careful with our money."
Gu Yihan put a few pieces of meat into Grandma Gu's bowl and said with a smile, "Grandma, the military wives in the family quarters all say that we look like mother and daughter when we stand together."
Lu Huailin looked at his wife with a smile in his eyes, thinking, "Little flatterer."
Grandma Gu smiled and touched her cheek, feeling that she was getting younger and younger.
Gu Yihan nodded and pointed to the braised pork in the pot: "Eating well makes you healthy and you look younger and younger."
Grandma Gu was delighted to hear this, thinking that she would have less to worry about in the future and that her little granddaughter would not have to rack her brains to coax her.
