Chapter 120 Borrowing an Umbrella

Chapter 120 Borrowing an Umbrella

Half an hour later

As the rain outside intensified, Gu Yihan had no choice but to knock on the door of this military family's home, hoping to borrow an umbrella.

"Thump, thump, thump."

Gu Yihan pounded on the door and shouted, "Is anyone home? Can you hear me?"

The rain outside was so loud that she was worried the people inside wouldn't hear it, so she kept taking pictures for a while longer.

Wang Erya felt there was a noise at the door. She put down the sweater she was knitting, stood up and looked at her mother-in-law who was sitting on a stool sewing shoe soles.

She asked uncertainly, "Mom, did you hear someone knocking on the door?"

Battalion Commander Wen's mother didn't even look up, replying dismissively, "With such heavy rain outside, who would knock on our door?"

"Nobody comes to visit us when it's not raining, let alone on a rainy day."

Wang Erya thought about it and agreed. Just as she was about to pick up the sweater and continue knitting, she heard the noise at the door getting louder.

This time, Wang Erya heard it; someone was indeed knocking on her door.

She went straight out of the living room, grabbed the rain gear that was placed by the door, opened it, ran into the yard, and opened the door.

Seeing Gu Yihan standing disheveled at his doorstep, he quickly asked, "Commander Lu's wife, what are you doing at my door?"

Gu Yihan breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that it was Wang Erya.

She smiled and said to Wang Erya, "It suddenly started raining on the way back. I didn't bring an umbrella, so I wanted to borrow one from you."

Gu Yihan actually has umbrellas in her space, but they're not from this era and can't be used!

Wang Erya pulled Gu Yihan's arm and walked into the house, saying cheerfully, "Come in quickly, I'll get you an umbrella and a raincoat."

"With such heavy rain, just using an umbrella won't be enough; you have to wear a raincoat so your clothes don't get wet."

Wang Erya folded up the umbrella and placed it by the door. She took Gu Yihan's hand, pushed open the living room door, and called out, "Mom, where are our raincoats?"

When Battalion Commander Wen's mother looked up, she saw Wang Erya holding Gu Yihan's hand and put down what she was doing.

He said, "The raincoat seems to be in my closet. Please have a seat while I go look for it."

After saying that, she turned around and went back to her bedroom to find a raincoat.

Wang Erya brought a stool and asked Gu Yihan to sit down first.

She smiled and said, "You're the first person to come to my house."

“The military wives are not willing to visit me.”

She always grumbled that I used improper means to marry my husband, and behind his back she always said that forced marriages are never sweet.

Wang Erya chuckled: "They don't know because they haven't tried it, but I have, and it's quite sweet."

Upon hearing this, Gu Yihan couldn't help but laugh, and the awkwardness between them vanished instantly.

When Battalion Commander Wen's mother-in-law found the raincoat, she handed it to Gu Yihan and said apologetically, "Please don't mind, it's been sitting for a while and has a slightly musty smell."

Gu Yihan smiled as she accepted the raincoat and said, "Thank you so much, otherwise I really don't know how long I would have had to wait."

She put on her raincoat, held up her umbrella, and said goodbye to Wang Erya and the others.

She walked quickly in the rain. Wang Erya was very thoughtful; the rain was too heavy, and the umbrella couldn't stop the wind from blowing it.

"Wife? Is that you?" Lu Huailin's anxious voice reached Gu Yihan's ears.

She saw a figure with an umbrella walking towards her.

Gu Yihan quickly responded, calling out to Lu Huailin, "I'm here!"

Lu Huailin ran to Gu Yihan's side and saw that she was wearing a raincoat and holding an umbrella, so she wasn't wet, only her shoes were wet.

Only then did he feel relieved. He handed the umbrella to Gu Yihan and instructed her, "Take the umbrella, I'll carry you on my back."

Gu Yihan put away her umbrella, took Lu Huailin's umbrella, and said, "It will get your clothes wet."

Lu Huailin didn't say anything, but simply carried Gu Yihan on his back and strode towards home.

After they got home and finished washing up, it was already very late.

Lu Huailin finished brewing the ginger soup and handed it to Gu Yihan, saying, "Wife, next time we go somewhere, I'll leave a note on the table."

"Otherwise, like today, I wouldn't know where to look for you."

Gu Yihan took a sip of ginger soup, feeling warm inside. She smiled and replied, "Okay."
