Chapter 8 Going Up the Mountain
While eating, Zhang Cuihua looked at the wild vegetable porridge and wild vegetable cornbread on the table in front of her and said with a unhappy face, "Mom, are we out of food?"
"Eat it or not, it's up to you. If you don't want to eat, then go hungry. From now on, you'll all be digging for wild vegetables after work," Grandma Gu said while drinking her porridge.

Gu Yihan hunched over and slowly and carefully moved out, afraid of making a sound.

The woman gasped, "You rascal, you're really something, aren't you ashamed?"
Gu Yihan wanted to poke her own ears right now, so she sped up, worried that she would throw up her dinner from the night before.
After descending the mountain, before even reaching home, he started calling out, "Grandma, Grandma, look what I caught!"
Grandma Gu quickly took her granddaughter's little basket off her back and saw that it contained a large, fat rabbit. Her face lit up with a smile as bright as a chrysanthemum as she exclaimed, "Such a big rabbit! Did you go deep into the mountains?"
I checked on my granddaughter with concern and found nothing wrong.
Gu Yihan calmed her wildly beating heart and said, "No, Grandma, this rabbit is so clumsy. I pressed down on it with my belly and it couldn't run anymore."
She didn't mention seeing her adoptive father on the mountain, since it wouldn't interfere with her life anyway. Others might think she was selfish and cold-hearted if they knew.
But in this era, it's too difficult for girls to go out and explore.
My cousin is thirteen years old this year, and her family has started looking for young men from the surrounding villages. This is not the life she wants.
"Where's your sister? Didn't she go out to dig for wild vegetables with you? Why did you come back alone?" Grandma Gu looked behind me and didn't see Gu Meng.
Gu Yihan didn't hide anything for Gu Meng: "My sister shook me off at the foot of the mountain, and I didn't see her when I came down."
Grandma Gu was furious when she found out.

Gu Yihan walked up to Grandma Gu and said, "Grandma, don't be angry. I'm fine. Don't get upset and ruin your health. It's not worth it."
Grandma Gu especially loves listening to her granddaughter talk; it warms her heart. "Okay, Grandma won't be angry."
Grandma Gu didn't cook all the wild rabbit; she only used half and left the other half hanging in the well.
The whole family was gathered for dinner, but Gu Meng didn't know when she had gone home.
Gu Aidang saw the meat and said, "Mom, where did the meat come from? It's quite a feast today."
Hanhan was lucky enough to catch it on the mountain.
"That's amazing. Mengmeng, next time you go up the mountain, I'll go with you and share in your luck," Gu Hao said while eating.
Gu Yihan deliberately said it was at the foot of the mountain, without going up the mountain.
Everyone was busy eating rabbit meat and no one was talking.
After finishing his meal, Gu Hao said contentedly, "This is the best meal I've had all year."
