Chapter 240 Borrowing a Ladder

Chapter 240 Borrowing a Ladder

Gu Yihan yawned as she walked out of the bedroom, glancing at Grandma Gu who was feeding Hao Hao.

He muttered, "Grandma, who's knocking on Commander Zhou's door so early in the morning?"

"Judging from her tone, she's Su Nian's mother-in-law." Grandma Gu wiped Hao Hao's mouth, looked up at her granddaughter, and said with a smile.

Gu Yihan was stunned when she heard this. Su Nian had only been enjoying herself for a few days when trouble came knocking on her door.

Judging from the force with which she was banging on the door, Zhou Jun's mother was no pushover.

"Come on, Hao Hao, open your mouth."

While playing with the tin frog, Hao Hao raised his head and opened his mouth to eat the steamed egg custard from the spoon after hearing Grandma Gu's words.

Seeing that Hao Hao was obedient, Grandma Gu smiled and said, "Oh, our Hao Hao is so good."

Gu Yihan frowned as she watched Grandma Gu coaxing Hao Hao to eat.

He walked straight to her side, took the bowl and spoon, placed them directly in front of Hao Hao, and casually took the tin frog from his hand.

Pointing to the steamed egg custard and spoon on the table, she looked at him and said, "Haohao, eat by yourself!"

Hao Hao stared at Gu Yihan's serious face with his big, round eyes.

Hao Hao, who is already good at reading people's expressions, knows that his mother won't give in to his whining or fake crying.

The chubby little hands picked up the spoon from the table.

While scooping the steamed egg custard into her mouth, she looked at Gu Yihan and grinned, "Mom, eat."

Gu Yi watched his little actions, suppressing a laugh, and turned to meet Grandma Gu's reproachful gaze.

She sighed and said, "Grandma, Hao Hao is 11 months old now and can eat by himself."

Grandma Gu glared at her granddaughter and said, "This is steamed egg custard, it's such a waste to spill it."

Gu Yihan smiled slightly at Grandma Gu, knowing that the older generation was frugal and couldn't stand wasting food.

He walked over to her and patiently explained, "Grandma, this is to train Hao Hao to eat independently."

"Otherwise, once he can walk and run, it will be very tiring for you to feed him by holding the bowl."

Grandma Gu was stunned for a moment upon hearing this.

It turned out that her granddaughter was doing it for her own good, so she didn't say anything more. She sat down next to Hao Hao and, seeing that he was eating slowly, took the opportunity to feed him a spoonful.

"Our Zhou family is truly unlucky to have married you. You're good for nothing, but you're number one at sowing discord."

Zhou's mother's sharp and shrill voice reached Gu Yihan's ears as she was washing up.

"Doesn't Commander Zhou's mother get tired of scolding him for so long?" Gu Yihan was speechless for a moment, then looked at Grandma Gu at the door of the living room and asked in confusion.

Grandma Gu looked at Hao Hao, who could still take several steps unsteadily: "Who knows?"

"Crunch."

Zhang Xia pushed open the gate of the Lu family's courtyard and peeked out to look at Gu Yihan, who was standing in the courtyard chatting with Grandma Gu.

He whispered, "I'll go find someone to inform Commander Zhou. Sister-in-law, are you going?"

Upon hearing this, Gu Yihan looked up at Zhou Jun's quiet courtyard. No matter how harsh the words Zhou's mother said, Su Nian did not come out to open the door.

He shook his head and said, "You go ahead, we'll keep an eye on things here, so we can stop them if they try to climb over the wall later."

Upon hearing this, Zhang Xia thought about it and realized it made sense. That old woman's insults were so nasty that Zhou Yan might actually climb over the wall, and Su Nian couldn't beat them all by herself.

Zhang Xia nodded, closed the courtyard gate, and jogged away.

Six or seven military wives gathered in front of the Zhou family's house, all drawn by Zhou's mother's shouting and cursing.

"Pah! Shameless bastard, you even dared to send Xiao Yan back to her hometown."

"You lazy thing who only knows how to give birth but not how to raise children! If it weren't for my Xiaoyan, you little slut, you wouldn't even be able to eat hot shit!"

"You bastard, only my blind son treats you like a treasure. To me, you're nothing but trash."

While cursing loudly, Zhou's mother held onto the door frame and kicked the courtyard gate forcefully.

Some military wives, unable to bear it any longer, stood up to speak for Su Nian: "Auntie, you're being too rude. Commander Zhou's wife has given birth to two children for your family."

Because Su Nian wouldn't open the door, Zhou's mother had nowhere to vent her anger, and she saw someone meddling in her affairs.

He immediately jumped up, turned around and spat at the military wife who was speaking: "Pah! Whose woman is giving birth?"

"If she can't have children, what's the point of my family marrying her? Are we just going to support her and let her eat my food?"

"If you were a barren hen, would your husband marry you? Pshaw, what are you pretending to be a good person for?"

The military wife blushed as Zhou's mother scolded her; she was tongue-tied and couldn't think of any insults.

You can only reason with them: "You'll get old someday, and then you'll need your daughter-in-law to take care of you."

"Pah! I have plenty of people vying to serve me, why would I need a jinx like her?"

Zhou's mother glanced at the military wives watching the commotion around her.

He snorted coldly: "You guys follow us to the army, eating and drinking well, but when the old folks at home get sick and rely on you, it's too late."

Just as the military wife was about to step forward to argue, she was grabbed by the arm by another military wife behind her.

The military wife who was with her pulled her back two steps and whispered in her ear, "You can't reason with a shrew like that."

The military wives watching the commotion were amazed by Zhou's mother's formidable fighting spirit.

I had originally intended to say a few words of justice for Commander Zhou's wife, but I gave up on that idea.

On the other side, there was Deputy Battalion Commander Wang's mother, who was watching the commotion.

His gaze swept over Commander Zhou's mother's wrinkled face, which was full of meanness, and he compared himself to her.

He realized that he was still more likable, at least he hadn't embarrassed Deputy Battalion Commander Wang like that in public.

Zhou's mother hadn't eaten breakfast and went straight from the guesthouse to the family compound. She had been calling for so long and was both thirsty and hungry.

Looking at the tightly closed courtyard gate, he wished he could find an axe to chop it open, and ordered Zhou Yan: "Go and borrow a ladder from the neighbor."

Zhou Yan saw Deputy Battalion Commander Wang's mother in the crowd and called out with a smile, "Aunt Wang, can I borrow your ladder?"

Deputy Battalion Commander Wang's mother glanced at Zhou Yan and said sarcastically, "My family doesn't have any. Go check other families."

Do they really think she's a fool? Zhou's mother offended many military wives who were watching, all by herself.

If they lent Zhou Yan the ladder, they would get the benefit and leave, even though they live in the family compound long-term.

Zhou Yan's smiling face instantly turned cold as she knocked on Gu Yihan's courtyard gate.

When Grandma Gu heard the knocking, she called out to her granddaughter, who was eating in the living room, "Xiao Han, you watch Hao Hao, I'll go check at the door."

Upon hearing this, Gu Yihan quickly put down her chopsticks and went into the yard to pick up Hao Hao.

She smiled slightly at Grandma Gu and said, "I'll go take a look too."

Grandma Gu opened the courtyard gate and saw Zhou Yan standing there. She frowned and said coldly, "What do you want?"

Zhou Yan: "Grandma Gu, do you have a ladder at home..."

"No." Gu Yihan interrupted Zhou Yan coldly before she could finish speaking.

"Even if I had it, I wouldn't lend it to you."

After saying that, he pushed Zhou Yan out and slammed the courtyard gate shut.
