Chapter 172 No Money
When Lu Huailin entered the bedroom, his wife was drinking soup, and Grandma Gu was sitting on the edge of the bed watching the child.
With a smile on his lips, he walked to Gu Yihan's bedside, bent down and looked down at his sleeping son with Grandma Gu.
Even though the baby hadn't opened his eyes yet, Lu Huailin was overjoyed the more he looked at him and said, "Wife, our son looks just like me."
Upon hearing Lu Huailin's words, Gu Yihan paused in her soup-drinking motion, then casually replied, "Whatever you want."
"Wife, I was talking about our son, not our daughter."
Upon hearing this, Gu Yihan rolled her eyes at Lu Huailin and said irritably, "I'm not deaf, do you think I don't know what you said?"
Lu Huailin couldn't help but smile. He had thought his wife would be unhappy when she found out it was a boy.
Gu Yihan glanced at the baby in the thin swaddle blanket: "Whether it's a boy or a girl, it's my child."
Grandma Gu nodded and said with a smile, "Of course, if Xiaohan has another daughter in the future, the older brother can protect his younger sister."
Gu Yihan smiled at Grandma Gu and lowered her head to drink her soup.
Grandma Gu thought of her in-laws in Beijing and patted Lu Huailin's arm: "Little Lu, don't forget to tell your parents the good news."
Seeing that his wife had finished drinking, Lu Huailin reached out and took the bowl from her before replying, "Grandma, don't worry, I'll call my dad tomorrow."
Gu Yihan had given birth to her baby that day and had been under a lot of stress for so long. When she got home, she fell asleep in the safe environment.
Early the next morning
Lu Huailin walked out of the courtyard with a big smile on his face. On the way, he met Deputy Battalion Commander Wang and greeted him with a smile.
Deputy Battalion Commander Wang knew that Lu Huailin had accompanied his wife to the military hospital yesterday, and asked with a smile, "Regimental Commander Lu, has your wife given birth?"
Lu Huailin glanced at Deputy Battalion Commander Wang, a smirk playing on his lips, and sighed, "Sigh, he's given birth to a brat."
Deputy Battalion Commander Wang glanced at Lu Huailin's almost upturned lips and said, "Congratulations."
Lu Huailin was in a hurry to call his family in Beijing. He nodded casually, said goodbye, and quickened his pace.
Beijing Lu Family
"Ring ring..."
Mr. Lu was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper when he heard the phone ring. He picked it up and put it to his ear.
Lu Huailin's loud voice came through the receiver: "Dad, my wife has given birth."
Mr. Lu was overjoyed: "Really? Is it a boy or a girl?"
Lu Huailin: "Boy,"
Mr. Lu stood up immediately with delight: "A boy is good, Huailin. Dad has already thought of a name, Lu Chenhao."
Lu Huailin frowned slightly: "Let me discuss it with my wife."
Mr. Lu wasn't annoyed; it was normal for the children to have their own ideas. "Alright, you two should discuss it properly."
After hanging up the phone, Mr. Lu happily paced around the living room.
He kept repeating, "I have a grandson."
He finally got his revenge, letting those rough men laugh at him for not having a grandson.
Then he called out to Aunt He in the kitchen, "Sister He, prepare more good dishes tonight."
Upon hearing this, Lu's mother, who had just returned from her morning exercise, asked, "What's wrong? Is something good happening?"
Mr. Lu glanced at Mrs. Lu: "Yes, Huailin's wife has given birth. Give me 8,888 yuan."
Upon hearing this, Lu's mother was taken aback, her expression turning somewhat unpleasant: "Why so much?"
Upon hearing this, Mr. Lu frowned and glanced at Mrs. Lu.
He said impatiently, "Huailin's wife gave our Lu family a big, fat grandson. I still think 8888 is too little."
Lu's mother didn't want to give it, since she had already given a lot of betrothal gifts during the New Year, and now she was being asked to give so much more.
"You only gave Miaomiao 1000 back then, that's too much."
Thinking of Miaomiao, Lu's father's expression turned cold. That child, because of her parents, actually looked at him with malice at such a young age.
Do you really think you're too old and useless to see through even a junior?
Can girls be the same as boys?
Lu's mother looked at Lu's father in disbelief. He used to say that boys and girls were the same.
Lu's mother's questioning voice rang out: "How can you be so sexist towards boys?"
Mr. Lu's expression turned cold the moment he looked at Mrs. Lu: "A married daughter is like water spilled from a bowl; do I need to teach you that?"
Miao Miao grew up in Beijing. Although she was a girl, Lu's mother still liked her very much.
Compared to a grandson she had never met, she naturally favored Miaomiao, who was growing up by her side.
Mr. Lu saw that Mrs. Lu was standing still, with a cold face and no words.
His deep voice rang out: "What? It's my own money, I can give it to whomever I want."
Seeing that Lu's father's face darkened, Lu's mother said in a low voice, "We don't have that much money at home."
No money? How could that be? Mr. Lu thought he had misheard and asked again, "What did you say?"
Lu's mother sat down on the sofa: "We only have 1,000 yuan at home."
Upon hearing this, Mr. Lu was so angry that he laughed. How could there only be one thousand yuan in the family?
His own salary is 5,000 yuan a year, not including his mother's salary, and now he's being told there's no money.
He glanced at Lu's mother, who was sitting on the sofa pretending to be dead, and ignored her.
Instead, he strode to the couple's bedroom, opened a drawer, took out three bankbooks, and his expression grew increasingly grim.
They didn't even have 1,000 yuan; there was only 512.35 yuan in their savings account.
After watching Lu's father stride away, Lu's mother breathed a sigh of relief.
There's really no money in my family.
She needs to subsidize Brother Lu's family with a lot of money every month. Her own older sister is not well-married and is also struggling financially, so she needs her help.
Mr. Lu, panting heavily, walked quickly to Mrs. Lu's side, his hand gripping the bankbook with bulging veins.
He threw the object at her and yelled, "Where's the money in the savings account?"
Startled by the ferocious look on Lu's father's face, Lu's mother picked up her savings book and said, "I've spent it."
Mr. Lu looked at Mrs. Lu with sharp eyes: "How did you spend the money? Where did it go?"
Realizing that Mr. Lu might be genuinely angry, Mrs. Lu stammered, "The subsidy was given to our eldest son."
Upon hearing this, Mr. Lu sneered, "Fine, since the eldest son doesn't earn enough to support the family, then he might as well quit his job. I'll call his boss and tell him to stay home and rest."
After saying that, he picked up the phone and started dialing, but Lu's mother snatched the phone away with lightning speed.
She looked at Lu's father in disbelief and shouted, "How could there be such a heartless father? You actually want to ruin your son's future!"
Mr. Lu looked coldly at Mrs. Lu, a mocking glint in his eyes: "Since I'm supporting their whole family, why does he still need to go to work?"
Mr. Lu glanced at the phone in Mrs. Lu's arms and threatened, "I have plenty of ways to make him lose his job."
Lu's mother was truly frightened now. She hadn't expected Lu's father to be so heartless, not even caring about his own son.
"It wasn't just used by the eldest brother; my older sister and niece also borrowed it. They'll return it later."
Mr. Lu's eyes were filled with disappointment: "How much did you borrow?"
After stammering for a long time, Lu's mother finally spoke: "Not much, less than 20,000."
Mr. Lu looked at Mrs. Lu with a cold gaze.
He shouted to Aunt He, who was trembling in the kitchen, "Sister He, pack up Director Ye's things, don't forget a single thing."
Aunt He quickly replied, "Yes, sir." After saying that, she ran towards the two of them's bedroom.
Lu's mother's pupils dilated as she stared incredulously at Lu's father, who remained silent with a cold expression. Her lips trembled as she asked, "You want to kick me out?"
