Chapter 337 Taking an Inch and a Mile

Chapter 337 Taking an Inch and a Mile

Hao Hao and Zhao Hu walked out of the school hand in hand, and when they looked up, they saw Lu Huailin standing at the door waiting for them.

She ran up to him, spinning around excitedly, "Dad, what brings you here?"

Lu Huailin chuckled, "What? Can't Daddy come pick you up?"

Hao Hao pouted and said with dissatisfaction, "You haven't come to pick me up for over a month."

"Alright, stop acting innocent after getting the benefit. Doesn't your mom pick you up and drop you off every day?"

Zhao Hu, who had just walked up to Hao Hao, exclaimed in surprise, "Ah... Uncle Lu, you knew that Aunt Gu was secretly following us!"

Hao Hao grinned and said, "Zhao Hu and I pretended not to know that Mom was following us."

Lu Huailin glared at Hao Hao, deliberately keeping a straight face, and said coldly, "You brat, what is your mother doing this for?"

Seeing this, Hao Hao quickly stepped forward, grabbed Lu Huailin's hand, and said in a cute and coquettish tone, "Dad, I know I was wrong."

Lu Huailin looked down at Hao Hao's innocent face and felt a pang of sadness. His wife had never shown him the same concern she showed Hao Hao.

Hearing Hao Hao soften and whine, he gave a haughty "hmm" with a blank expression, resolutely refusing to admit that he was jealous of his son.

Holding Hao Hao's hand with his right and Zhao Hu's hand with his left, he said, "Let's go, Uncle will take you home."

On the way back, Hao Hao chattered away with Zhao Hu about the interesting things that happened at school.

Suddenly, Hao Hao looked up at Lu Huailin and said in a childish voice, "Daddy, I want to go to first grade."

"First grade?"

"Yeah, I don't like playing with kindergarten kids, they're so dirty."

"Yes, Uncle, you don't know Hao Hao's deskmate, his snot is so long. When I kindly advised him to wipe it, he didn't like it and just sucked the snot back in."

"Hao Hao felt nauseous and vomited after seeing it."

Upon hearing this, Lu Huailin immediately pictured a dirty child with blood drawn and snot running down his nose, and his brows furrowed.

"I'll discuss it with your teacher tomorrow."

Upon hearing this, Hao Hao's eyes lit up, and he grinned, saying, "Thank you, Dad."

When Zhao Hu saw Zhang Mei standing at the door, he let go of Lu Huailin's hand, skipped over, and said with a grin, "Grandma, your grandson is back."

Zhang Mei smiled and reached out to pat Zhao Hu's head.

She looked up and glanced at Lu Huailin, who was holding Hao Hao's hand, and a slight smile appeared on her lips.

He said with a smile, "Commander Lu, doesn't your wife know that the kids in our compound have to go to a training camp when they turn 12?"

Lu Huailin shook his head expressionlessly and said in a deep voice, "I haven't had a chance to tell her yet."

Upon hearing this, Zhang Mei's lips twitched involuntarily, and she reminded him, "Commander Lu, your wife doesn't look well today."

After saying that, he took Zhao Hu's hand and turned to leave.

He thought to himself, no wonder Gu Yihan looked unwell.

It's just a matter of a word, why do we need to pick a date?

Lu Huailin didn't understand what Zhang Mei meant, and took Hao Hao's hand and went home.

Gu Yihan came out carrying the freshly made braised pork and saw Lu Huailin and Hao Hao returning.

Smiling, she said, "Huailin, there are steamed eggs and chicken wontons that I made for Hao Hao in the kitchen."

"Okay, honey, you rest, I'll go get it."

After speaking, Lu Huailin glanced at his wife's face out of the corner of his eye; she didn't seem to be in a bad mood.

Hao Hao toddled over to Gu Yihan's side with his short legs.

He lifted his rosy cheeks and looked at her.

"Mommy, Grandma Zhang said you're in a bad mood today. Did Hao Hao make you angry?" she asked in a childish voice.

"I'm in a bad mood?"

"How come I didn't know?"

At this moment, Lu Huailin placed a steamed egg custard in one hand and a wonton in the other on the dining table.

He chuckled and said, "Auntie is just joking."

After saying that, he picked up a small bowl, filled it with 10 wontons, and placed it in front of his wife.

Gu Yihan didn't think too much about it and picked up the white porcelain spoon to start eating.

"Wife, why aren't you eating braised pork?"

Gu Yihan glanced at the white, fatty braised pork in the center of the table. Before even taking a bite, she felt an unbearable greasiness in her throat.

He quickly shook his head and said, "I can't eat this greasy, fatty meat."

Hao Hao looked at the large, fatty slice of meat, noting that there was only a tiny bit of lean meat at the very tip.

"Mom, why didn't you buy lean meat!"

He likes to eat lean meat, even though it gets stuck in his teeth, it's chewier and tastier than steamed egg custard.

Gu Yihan glanced at Hao Hao, who was frowning, and couldn't help but laugh. She said, "We've sold out of lean meat for today."

"If you want to eat it, I'll buy it for you next time."

After dinner

Gu Yihan sat on the sofa to rest, while Lu Huailin, wearing an apron, cleared away the dishes and cleaned the house diligently with a broom.

"By the way, Huailin, starting this month, we'll send Grandma five yuan every month."

What happened?

Lu Huailin quickly came out of the kitchen, sat down next to his wife, and held her hand.

He asked worriedly, "Has something happened in Kunming?"

Seeing his father hurriedly sit down next to his mother, Hao Hao dropped the broom, ran to Gu Yihan's side, and squeezed between the two.

Following Lu Huailin's example, he tightly gripped her fingers with his chubby little hands and looked at her with worried eyes.

Gu Yihan chuckled as she watched the father and son move in unison. "Li Yaqing came today and talked about some things concerning Grandma Gu."

She recounted the story of Grandma Gu and Gu Meng to Lu Huailin.

"Honey, I'll ask my comrades over there to find out what's going on tomorrow."

Gu Yihan nodded and hummed in agreement.

Meanwhile, the Kuncheng courtyard

Gu Meng sat at the dining table, picking her teeth while giving instructions to Grandma Gu.

"Grandma, write a letter to Gu Yihan and ask her to send an extra ten yuan every month from now on."

Grandma Gu hesitated for a moment, then felt it was inappropriate and refused, saying, "Xiao Meng, one should not be greedy."

"What? Insatiable greed?"

Gu Meng felt as if she had heard a huge joke: this old woman herself had a bulging wallet every month.

They even complained that she was greedy and that if it weren't for Gu Yihan, she would have suffered on the farm for more than two years.

Qin Shou glanced at the dark-skinned Gu Meng, a hint of sarcasm flashing in his eyes.

Do you really think other people's money grows on trees?

"Grandma, every penny or every extra piece of milk is welcome."

Grandma Gu remained unmoved. She knew very well that her relationship with Gu Yihan couldn't withstand any more turmoil.

Gu Meng noticed that Grandma Gu remained silent.

He continued to tempt her, "Grandma, are you stupid? If Gu Yihan can give you 40 yuan a month, she can give you 50 yuan."

"She's rich, she wouldn't care about ten or eight yuan."

"Shut up!"

Qin Shou stood up irritably, glanced at Gu Meng, and said coldly, "Don't push your luck. I've already spent 200 yuan to get you back."

After saying that, she glanced at the silent Grandma Gu and said, "Don't be too happy yet. If Gu Yihan stops giving you money because of Gu Meng, she will never give you money again."

"You and your grandson get out of my house."

After saying that, he slammed the door shut and left.
