Chapter 28: The Li family conspired to get what they wanted

When Li Xiaoqin returned home and told the Shen family about their situation, her mother Zhang Guilan's eyes lit up: "Oh my god, the Shen family accepted so much betrothal gifts?"

"Then shouldn't we ask for more of Xiaoqin, such a pretty girl? Your previous plan was too little!"

"His family wants 8 yuan, can we ask for 10 yuan?"

"If you can really get 10 yuan, then your two younger brothers won't have to worry about getting married in the future. What do you think, old man?" Zhang Guilan looked at her man happily.

"Mom, aren't you going to give me even a penny?" Li Xiaoqin felt disappointed when she heard that all her betrothal money would be used to marry her two younger brothers.

"What money do you want? If you marry into their family, they won't even care about your food and drink. Besides, if you take the money with you, it will become theirs. Why do you need a dowry? You might as well just go with nothing."

Zhang Guilan rolled her eyes at her daughter and continued, "Now that your two younger brothers have started families, it will be the foundation for you to gain a foothold in your husband's family in the future!"

"What if you don't have a younger brother? Your in-laws will bully you to death!"

"Even if I don't have money, you have to prepare a set of quilts for me, right?" Li Xiaoqin was not giving up.

"Then ask the Shen family if they will give you the cloth. If they do, we will make you a set."

Li Xiaoqin almost burst into tears when she heard this: "Waiting for his family's cloth, how long will it take for me to get married?"

She didn't even want to talk about her mother's craftsmanship. The quilts and mattresses at home were so crookedly made, and the stitches were so big that mice could get into them.

She wanted to tear off a piece of cloth and make a set herself.

"So whichever one of the things you like, just take it, right?" Zhang Guilan thought these were all trivial matters.

Li Xiaoqin didn't want to talk to her mother anymore, so she turned to consult her father: "Dad, can you get me a piece of cloth? I can make a set myself, and when I get married, it will make our family look good!"

"Borrow cloth? To buy cloth you need money and tickets. Besides, how much cloth do I need to make a set of bedding? Where can I get it at home?" Li Jianbang knocked on the windowsill with his pipe.

"Then bring me one dollar, otherwise I won't marry you." Li Xiaoqin was also stubborn. She couldn't get a penny of the betrothal money she wanted for the marriage.

"Hey, little girl, do you have the final say on whether to get married or not?" Zhang Guilan picked up the broom on the kang and wanted to hit her twice.

Li Xiaoqin looked at Zhang Guilan with red eyes: "I have no say, but I have a hundred ways to make this marriage fail. Other families won't be able to give so much money by then. You can figure out which one is suitable?"

Zhang Guilan was holding her breath in her chest, unable to speak or let it go: "Hey, if you don't marry into the Shen family, which poor guy do you want to marry? I'm telling you, no matter who you marry, it won't work if you don't have this amount. If you can't get married, you'll just be an old maid at home. Am I afraid of you?"

"Hey, what are you arguing about? Isn't this a problem that can't be solved easily? When the time comes, you can just ask for one more dollar for the betrothal gift, right?"

"Ten yuan, please. Nine yuan is not acceptable. Give one yuan to the girl. The rest will be enough for Zhuzi and Gangzi to get married."

Li Jianbang quickly comforted his daughter, saying that no matter how you look at it, the marriage with the Shen family was a good deal and they couldn't let this marriage fall through.

Li Xiaoqin was quite satisfied with the result, knowing that no more would be produced, which was good enough.

The Li family had just discussed the dowry for the marriage with the Shen family, and over there, Shen Qiushu braved the northwest wind and finally returned to the Shen family.

After walking around in the yard for a while, he turned and entered the small east room.

In the room, Old Lady Wang was lying on the kang, and Shen Siyue was sewing clothes.

"Mom, I'm here to see you." Chen Qiushu shouted before even lifting the door curtain.

Old Mrs. Wang, who was lying lifeless, trembled all over and turned her head to look at the door.

Shen Siyue looked at Shen Qiushu and smiled: "Sanbai, are you here to show your courtesy?"

Shen Qiushu paused, looked at the dead girl who looked like a normal person, and blinked: "Are you not crazy?"

Shen Siyue smiled: "Whether I go crazy or not depends on my mood. When I'm in a bad mood, I like to chop people to death!"

Chen Qiushu touched his nose guiltily, turned his head away and dared not look at her again, but sat next to Old Lady Wang.

"Mom, are you feeling better?"

"Wuwu... Wuwu..." Old Mrs. Wang's eyes were filled with tears. She knew that there was no way her old son, whom she had loved since childhood, would ignore his mother.

"Oh, you still can't speak? What should I do? Seeing you like this, I was so worried that I couldn't sleep all night."

"Mom, you don't know, ever since you got sick, my dad has been displeased with me. He even had a quarrel with me yesterday. I'm almost like a child that my dad doesn't care about."

Chen Qiushu kept talking non-stop about the grievances he had suffered during this period. As he spoke, he began to believe it and his eyes became tearful.

Shen Siyue, who was standing next to him, curled her lips at Shen Qiushu's poor acting skills.

Only Old Lady Wang has the filter of a biological mother, and she believes whatever her youngest son says.

Just when the two of them were about to hug each other and cry, Shen Siyue’s eyes rolled, and an idea popped up in her mind.

"Sanbai came here suddenly, what's the matter? Is he here to see if my good grandma has any money? Want to get some money to spend?"

Shen Siyue's words stunned both Old Lady Wang and Shen Qiushu, who were immersed in the tender moment between mother and son.

Old Mrs. Wang looked at her youngest son with some suspicion.

As for Shen Qiushu, he felt embarrassed after his true identity was revealed.

After picking up the matter, Shen Siyue looked at the mother and son looking at each other, and she sat beside them and watched the fun as if nothing had happened.
