Chapter 1: Hired by the Steel Factory

In 1966, Huang Qinqin, who had just graduated from high school the previous year, stood at the gate of the steel factory, looking at the dense crowd of people, unable to squeeze in.

She could only turn to her second brother next to her and say, "Second brother! Second brother! Could you squeeze in and check if my name is on the acceptance list? Please, second brother!"

Looking at his younger sister's face, Huang Jianjun couldn't help but sigh: If his younger sister weren't so lazy, she would definitely be a girl that everyone in the surrounding villages would want to marry.

She's good-looking and only graduated from high school, but she's a bit lazy. Sigh (╥ω╥`)

Huang Jianjun nodded, and while squeezing inside, he said to Huang Qinqin, "Little sister, you go sit over there and wait for me. There's no sun under the trees there. I'll go in and see if your name is there."

Using his towering height of 1.83 meters, Huang Jianjun kept pushing his way through the crowd toward the factory gate. "Excuse me, excuse me!"

"My sister also took the job recruitment exam. Let me go in and see if she passed!" Huang Jianjun said as he walked.

After finally getting inside, Huang Jianjun quickly checked the posted list to see if Huang Qinqin's name was on it.

While searching, you also need to keep your balance, otherwise you'll be pushed away by others.

When Huang Jianjun saw that there were only five names on the admission notice, one of which was Huang Qinqin, he couldn't help but exclaim excitedly, "She got in! My little sister got in! Hahaha!"

An older woman standing nearby heard Huang Jianjun's words and looked at him with envy, saying, "Young man, your sister got into college? Your sister is so lucky!" Her tone was almost dripping with jealousy.

Huang Jianjun frowned and said, "My sister didn't just get lucky; she's a high school student who got in through her own hard work!"

Huang Jianjun saw the list and, not wanting to squeeze in with others, quickly slipped away and ran over to Huang Qinqin.

"Little sister! Guess if you passed the exam!" Huang Jianjun asked Huang Qinqin with a smile.

Huang Qinqin smiled at Huang Jianjun and said, "As soon as I saw you smiling so happily, I knew I must have passed the exam!"

Huang Jianjun patted Huang Qinqin's head and nodded: "That's right! Little sister, you passed the exam, and this time they only recruited 5 workers in total. Little sister, you're amazing!"

Huang Qinqin tilted her head to avoid it and said to Huang Jianjun, "Hey, second brother, don't always touch my head. It's because you guys touch my head so often that I'm not growing tall!"

As she spoke, she glanced at Huang Jianjun again, looking him up and down, which made Huang Qinqin even angrier.

Huang Qinqin's father, Huang Eryuan, is 1.86 meters tall, and her mother, Chen Zhaodi, is 1.62 meters tall. However, her eldest brother, Huang Jianguo, is 1.85 meters tall, and her second brother, Huang Jianjun, is 1.83 meters tall.

She's the only one! She's only 1.6 meters tall! She's the shortest in the whole family, even shorter than her mother, Chen Zhaodi (T^T)

The excitement of being accepted by the steel factory was quickly replaced by the disappointment of being a nobody.

Huang Qinqin said dejectedly to Huang Jianjun, "Second brother, let's go home and get our household registration book and your graduation certificate, then go to the street office to get a letter of introduction and see if we can get the onboarding done today."

Huang Jianjun looked at Huang Qinqin, who was looking down and constantly rubbing small stones on the ground with her toes, and gently comforted her: "You're not short either. Look at our family compound, there aren't many people taller than you."

"A girl who's 1.6 meters tall is already quite tall. If she's any taller, it'll be harder for her to find a boyfriend."

"Also, little sister, aren't you going to work this time either? I'm still young. Unlike my older brother, I'm not in a rush to find a job for blind dates. Why don't you go to work first this time?" Huang Jianjun scratched his head and said.

Huang Qinqin then looked up at Huang Jianjun and said, "No, this recruitment is for factory workers, and I can't stand that. Besides, I know the textile factory is recruiting next month, and maybe I can pass the exam."

"Second brother's gone. Let's hurry home while it's still early!" Huang Qinqin said, waving her two braids.

Steel Plant Staff Quarters

Huang Jianjun and Huang Qinqin were stopped by someone as soon as they entered the entrance of the family compound.

"Jianjun! Qinqin! You're back! How did it go? Did Qinqin get accepted?"

"I heard from my son that our steel plant only needs five people this time!" The tone seemed concerned, but it was actually full of sarcasm. It was clear she wanted to see others make a fool of themselves.

Even from a distance, you could hear Aunt Wang's loud voice. Huang Qinqin listened to Aunt Wang's sarcastic remarks.

"I knew your Qinqin wouldn't pass the exam. I told your mother a long time ago, what's the use of a girl studying so much? She should just get married early!" Aunt Wang's harsh voice rang out.

Huang Qinqin stopped and turned around to look at Aunt Wang with a smile, and retorted, "Aunt Wang, whether I pass the exam or not is none of your business, right?"

"You're so concerned about me, do you want me to be your daughter-in-law? But with your family's circumstances, I'm afraid you're not good enough for me!"

After saying that, Huang Qinqin ignored Aunt Wang and quickly left, holding her second brother's hand. Huang Jianjun looked at his younger sister's carefree attitude and secretly admired her, while also feeling happy for her.

Huang Qinqin pulled her second brother to the corner and finally breathed a sigh of relief. Huang Jianjun looked at the relaxed Huang Qinqin and said with a smile, "Little sister, you really gave her a good talking-to just now! We'll just ignore her from now on."

Huang Qinqin patted her chest. "Hmph, who told her to always look down on people! I'll show her that I, Huang Qinqin, am not someone to be bullied!"

The two returned home and shared the good news with their parents. However, when their parents learned that Huang Qinqin planned to give the job opportunity to her second brother, they looked worried.

Despite Huang Qinqin's efforts to explain, her parents insisted that work was more important to her.
