Chapter 21: Not even close to being decided yet.

Chen Ermei had actually been following Xu Jingui back the whole time, but she didn't show herself until Xu Jingui had asked around among the others.

She came out and said in a shy, high-pitched voice, "Brother Xu, see, I didn't lie to you, everyone knows."

Xu Jingui didn't really think much of Chen Ermei because she was too thin, and he didn't know if it was her personality or something else, but she looked very mean.

But after hearing others say she was very capable, I thought she was alright. Just as I was about to say something, I saw Huang Qinqin and Chen Zhaodi behind me.

He squinted at them with a hostile look. When Huang Qinqin walked over, he said sarcastically, "Some people just have no self-awareness. They're so lazy they're unbelievable, yet they still have the nerve to come out and look at people!"

Huang Qinqin originally had no intention of paying attention to him and planned to go straight home, but then she heard Xu Jingui actually accuse her of being the one to complain.

She couldn't stand it anymore: "Yes! Some people really don't know their place. They're clearly divorced, yet they hide their marital history and come out to find a partner. How shameless!"

"What nonsense are you talking about! I have never hidden the fact that I was married. You just didn't ask clearly! I don't even want you. I've never seen such a lazy woman."

Upon hearing Huang Qinqin bring up the matter, Xu Jingui knew he was in the wrong and rode away on his bicycle.

Chen Zhaodi was overjoyed. Now that Xu Jingui knew Huang Qinqin's true colors in advance and publicly expressed his disdain for her in front of so many people, Huang Qinqin could forget about marrying him. Her chances of marrying Xu Jingui were now much greater.

But she never thought about why this life was so different from the last. If Huang Qinqin was unwilling to marry a divorced man, why would she have willingly married Xu Jingui in her last life?

Huang Qinqin remembered that Chen Ermei and Xu Jingui had just been standing together, and kindly reminded her, "Chen Ermei, you don't mean to marry Xu Jingui, do you? Let me remind you, being a stepmother isn't easy. Do you know whether his previous wife was divorced or deceased? Don't be confused."

"Mind your own business! You were rejected by Brother Xu, so you can't stand to see others doing well, can you?"

It's hard to reason with a damned devil. Seeing that Chen Ermei was unmoved, he ignored the gossipy looks from others and went home with Chen Zhaodi.

......

"What kind of person is he? He was just meeting you this morning, and the next thing he's doing, he's already contacting Chen Ermei. Even if he's not divorced, you can't marry someone like that," Chen Zhaodi complained angrily as she sat down.

When the rest of the Huang family saw them return, they all gathered around.

"Mom, where did you and my little sister run off to in such a hurry?"

Chen Zhaodi pouted, looking unhappy: "Don't even mention it! I asked that matchmaker Qian to help me find someone to marry, and he actually introduced your little sister to a divorced man without even telling us!"

"Really? Isn't it said that Qian Damei is very reliable, and most of the people who go through her matchmaking end up together?"

They had looked into all the local matchmakers before choosing her. Moreover, her referral fee was the highest; regardless of whether a deal went through, they had to pay a dollar upfront.

After the marriage, they still have to give a separate thank-you gift to the matchmaker. They've taken so much money and they're still so heartless...

"I suspect there was something fishy going on every time we met. If it weren't for that Xu... oh, Xu Jingui. If Xu Jingui hadn't let it slip, we might have actually been fooled."

"But I'm not one to be trifled with either. I got my referral fee back. Here, this is the meat I bought with the referral fee I got back. Let's have a good meal today to celebrate that my Qinqin didn't fall into the trap."

Chen Zhaodi, hands on her hips, raised her chin with a smug look, gesturing for them to look at the meat on the table.

Huang Jianjun gave a thumbs up: "Mom, you're amazing! You actually managed to get the money back. No wonder you're such a good homemaker."

"You're so good with words. Go away, hurry up and clean the vegetables, we need to start cooking rice."

"Honey, come in with me for a moment."

Chen Zhaodi returned to her room and sat down, then asked Huang Eryuan, who came in after her, to close the door.

"What's wrong? Worried about your daughter? It's okay if this relationship didn't work out, we can just find another one," Huang Eryuan said nonchalantly.

Chen Zhaodi waved her hand: "No, I'm not particularly worried about my daughter's situation. I've thought about it, and if she really can't find a suitable partner or a job, I'll just give my job to her."

“Are you willing to give that up? You earn thirty yuan a month now. If you take sick leave, your daughter will only be able to get the minimum wage when she goes to work, which is eighteen yuan a month.”

Chen Zhaodi said irritably, "If I can't bear to give up my job, my daughter will have to go to the countryside. I can tell which is more important, my salary or my daughter."

Huang Eryuan said ingratiatingly, "I was just worried you might do something rash. Now that you've made up your mind, there's no need to rush to find a partner for our daughter."

"We still need to meet each other. Our daughter is eighteen now; we can't really wait until she's twenty to meet her, can we?"

"You can stay single for life, I'm willing to support you anyway."

"If you're willing, will your eldest and second sons be happy when they get married? Sometimes I really don't want to talk to you about it."

Chen Zhaodi felt annoyed looking at Huang Eryuan, who seemed completely unconcerned. Was this really her daughter all by herself?

"Let me tell you, I met a young man when I was buying meat just now. I thought he seemed alright, and I'm planning to go to the food factory to talk to him and find out more about the situation. Do you want to come with me?"

"If you think it's alright, then go check it out."

"Okay, it's settled then."

......

"Dad, Mom, I'm home."

Xu Junhui pushed open the door with a beaming smile and called out.

Seeing how happy he was, Xu Weiguo teased, "Oh, did you find some money? You seem so happy."

"I'm happier than if I found money. You guys would probably be even happier than me if you knew."

Zhang Yumei lifted her apron and wiped her hands: "What is it that would make us happy to know?"

Xu Junhui said mysteriously, "Guess?"

"You got promoted? But wait, you're the only one in the cafeteria purchasing department, how much more could you possibly get promoted?"

"Could it be that you've found someone?"

Xu Junhui nodded: "Just like you guessed, Mom. I might find a partner soon."

"What? You can find a partner right away? If you can, you can. If you can't, where are you going to look?"

Xu Junhui recounted how he had just met Huang Qinqin, and how Huang Qinqin's mother had said she would visit him another day.

Xu Weiguo: ......

Zhang Yumei: ......

Zhang Yumei snatched the meat from Xu Junhui's hand: "After all this talk, nothing's even started. Go and call your sister back for dinner. She's always out gallivanting around."
