Chapter 79 Marriage (Part Two)

"Okay, I promise I won't raise my voice at Qinqin, don't worry, Dad."

Upon hearing his father-in-law's words, Xu Junhui knew that he wasn't standing up for him, but rather reminding him.

They reminded him not to treat Huang Qinqin badly, as she was their daughter whom they had spoiled since childhood. Of course, Xu Junhui would never treat Huang Qinqin badly.

But as the saying goes, anyone can say nice things. The key is how they are done.

Xu Junhui knew that no matter how many assurances he made now, they would still be worried, and he would prove them wrong with his actions in the future.

After lifting Huang Qinqin onto the bicycle, they were about to head to the Xu family's house to drop off Huang Qinqin's dowry, and then to the state-run restaurant.

Since the two families are hosting the banquet together, they don't need to separate and can simply set off together.

Xu Junhui had one bicycle at home, and he borrowed four more, plus one from the Huang family, making a total of six bicycles. They looked particularly eye-catching.

"My God! Didn't everyone say that Chen Ermei married someone with better conditions? Huang Qinqin actually had six bicycles for the wedding procession!"

"One of them should belong to them, so there are only five."

"Five vehicles is a lot, okay?! Didn't you see Chen Ermei's place? She only had one bicycle to pick up her bride."

Actually, if Chen Ermei hadn't gotten married on the same day as Huang Qinqin, she would probably have been the envy of many. After all, many people don't even have a bicycle or an oxcart when they get married; most of them walk to the groom's house.

So, the fact that she was able to be picked up by bicycle when she got married meant that she was already better off than many others.

Unfortunately, she ran into Huang Qinqin. One had one bicycle, while the other had six. This comparison suddenly made her side seem pitiful. Not only did it not inspire envy, but it also made people think that her marriage was just so-so.

Xu Junhui also prepared a large bag of wedding candies, the kind that are relatively inexpensive fruit candies. He gave them to everyone he met along the way, showing great generosity.

He didn't think too much at the time; he was simply happy and wanted to share the joy with others.

But this one action inadvertently overshadowed Xu Jingui.

Because Xu Jingui came to pick up the bride today, not only were there only a few people, but he also didn't prepare any red envelopes, candies, melon seeds, or anything else.

Xu Jingui felt that he had already given a very high dowry, and his family had already spent a lot of money inviting many people today. He didn't want to spend any more money than that.

Besides, Xu Jingui hadn't originally planned to hold a wedding banquet. It wasn't his first time getting married, so he felt it was unnecessary. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been delaying the wedding date.

He wanted to wait until Chen Ermei couldn't sit still anymore and took the initiative to propose marriage, so that he could control her family.

Unfortunately, Xu Junhui and Huang Qinqin got together, and Xu Jingui felt that if he didn't hold a banquet, he would be inferior to others, which is why today's banquet was a competition.

"If you ask me, the Huang family has good taste. Look how lively and generous the Huang family's wedding is today, with both families marrying off their daughters at the same time!"

"Yes, my grandson got several pieces of candy and a handful of sunflower seeds!"

"The Chen family must have some too, right?"

"Don't even mention it. It didn't look like a happy occasion at the Chen family's place at all. When the kids went up to ask for candy, they were chased away."

"No way? Could they have already been sent out?"

"No way! The Chen family didn't prepare any wedding candy themselves. They were all looking forward to their son-in-law bringing it, but he came empty-handed!"

"Oh my, I've never seen anything like this before. Even though it's her second marriage, it's still Chen Ermei's first. This is just too much..."

When Xu Junhui and Huang Qinqin passed by, they could vaguely hear the aunties discussing the Chen family.

They found it unbelievable; shouldn't they at least give out some candy and melon seeds at the wedding? It's hard to say...

Whether it was a coincidence or something Xu Jingui and his family had planned, they saw Xu Jingui and Chen Ermei right at the gate as soon as they left the residential compound.

However, unlike the lively and festive atmosphere on their side, Xu Jingui and Chen Ermei both looked rather unwell. In fact, one could say they looked quite grim.

As soon as Xu Jingui left the family compound, he started arguing with Chen Ermei.

Chen Ermei felt that Xu Jingui was being disrespectful to her: "How could you not even prepare wedding candy and melon seeds! Now everyone in the family compound knows that when I got married, the groom's family didn't even want to give out wedding candy!"

Chen Ermei was truly devastated. She had been happily waiting in her room for Xu Jingui to come and pick her up.

As a result, her mother stormed into the room, slapped her, and then started scolding her: "You found a good boyfriend! He came to pick you up but didn't even bring any wedding candy. It's more shameful than someone who marries into a rural family!"

Xu Jingui also harbored resentment. He hadn't wanted to give such a large dowry in the first place, but he felt that Chen Ermei had a good reputation and could do more housework in the future, which convinced him to accept the situation.

When he went to pick up his bride today, Ma Xiulan actually dared to give him a cold shoulder! He had never suffered such humiliation in his life.

Although Chen Dazhu immediately stepped in to smooth things over, Xu Jingui could tell that he also had objections, but he was afraid that Chen Dazhu would suddenly abandon the marriage and leave.

Xu Jingui originally wanted to leave with Chen Ermei as soon as possible, but when Chen Ermei came out, there was such a big handprint on her face!

This isn't just hitting Chen Ermei, it's hitting his face!

"How dare you say that to me?! Have you ever seen a family marry off their daughter, receive a huge dowry, and then not get a single piece of trousseau?"

Wow!

Xu Junhui and Huang Qinqin were so engrossed in hearing their argument that they couldn't move.

These two are a perfect match! One couldn't even afford to buy wedding candy, and the other didn't even have a dowry.

Chen Ermei originally wanted to continue arguing with Xu Jingui, but she suddenly sensed someone nearby. She turned around and saw a group of people behind them.

At the very front were Huang Qinqin and Xu Junhui.

When Chen Ermei saw Huang Qinqin wearing a red dress and being followed by a group of people pushing her dowry, her eyes turned red.

On what grounds?!

When Huang Qinqin married Xu Jingui in her past life, things were clearly not like this. So why does Huang Qinqin still look so happy now that she's married to Xu Junhui?

Seeing that there was no more excitement to be seen, Xu Junhui and his companions decided not to linger and rode their bicycles away.

As I passed by Xu Jingui, I heard him say, "Don't be so smug. I'll see if you'll still be laughing when there aren't even any people left to eat at the banquet!"

Xu Junhui laughed, "Who knows who will be crying in the end?"

Since they intend to embarrass their family, they should be prepared for retaliation. Hopefully, Xu Jingui will still be so arrogant then.
