Bonus Chapter: A Spontaneous Trip (Part Two)

Gu Ye was so excited about going out that he couldn't wait to leave, like a little kid.

"Why has your personality changed now that you're retired? What's the rush? We have plenty of time."

"How can we not be anxious? We're going to travel all the way here, and we need to spend time with our parents and see our comrades. We're going from the north to the south, and we might not even be able to come back for the New Year."

Gu Ye thought about visiting Brother Wenze. After retiring, he was rehired by a local hospital and went to work at a traditional Chinese medicine hospital, where he focused on traditional Chinese medicine and continued to contribute his remaining energy.

"Now that you mention it, I wonder if Sister Zhang and the others are still around. Did they go back to their hometown or settle down in the south?"

"Who knows? We haven't been in touch for many years. You two used to exchange letters, but then you lost contact."

"Yeah, I don't know what happened, but the letter I sent was returned. It seems they didn't go back to their hometown after they were demobilized. We gradually lost contact, which is a real pity. Sanqi even learned a lot of Northeastern stews from Aunt Zhang."

The two reminisced about the past and found it quite interesting. They felt that life was tough back then, having to do everything themselves, but it was fulfilling; they were physically exhausted, but mentally satisfied.

"Alright, stop talking. The fact that she starts reminiscing about the past means she's getting old."

"No, my wife is still beautiful and looks as young as ever."

Bonnie glared at her brother. Ever since the day he took off his uniform, he's become so much more vibrant.

Perhaps, that's just her brother's personality. It's just that he had to take care of his sick mother when he was young, and he also had an unscrupulous father, which made him grow up too early and suppress his original personality.

After Bao Ni and Gu Ye packed their things, the Sanqi and Liujiu families also came back together to see their parents off.

"Grandpa, you and Grandma went to play by yourselves, aren't you taking your little ones with you?"

Liu Jiu's son blinked his big eyes and looked at Gu Ye with hope in them.

"Your grandpa has been looking forward to this day so much that his eyes are red. He wants to go and have some time alone with your grandma. You little rascals, don't get in his way."

Sanqi knows her father too well. He had been eagerly anticipating retirement, and without waiting a moment longer, he immediately submitted his retirement application, urging the authorities to process the paperwork three to five times a day.

Gu Ye glared at Sanqi. He's such a jerk, he's everywhere.

“My little ones, you have to go to school. When winter break comes, your parents will take you to visit us by plane. I'll pay for the plane tickets.”

Gu Ye looked at the three little ones. He wasn't going to take any of them this time; he was going to go with Bao Ni, as they had agreed.

"Okay, Grandpa, you have to remember what you said and buy us plane tickets."

"I understand, I won't forget."

After a lively family dinner, everyone went home.

The next day, Bonnie entrusted her yard to Commander Mu and his wife. The vegetables in the garden were quite tall and would be ready to eat in a month. She told them to share them and not waste them.

"Bon Voyage!"

"Understood. We'll go ahead and lead the way. It'll be much more convenient for you guys when you go out later, because you'll have someone to refer to."

Bonnie waved and took the retirement home's car to the train station. This time, they left alone, without anyone else.

The train station has changed a lot, and the trains are much faster now; they're no longer the slow, green-skinned trains of the past. The country is truly getting better and better, developing rapidly.

“Oh dear, my sister-in-law called yesterday and said that next time we go out, we should take her with us. She feels that if we wait until my brother retires to go out, she might not be able to walk anymore.”

"Next time, let's go out together with Lao Mu and Bai Chaoyang. Let's try to go out every now and then for the next ten years. Let's get together with our old friends. Who knows how many of us will be left in another ten years?"

Gu Ye thought of his childhood friends and sighed.

Han Ye, in particular, completely let loose after the divorce, indulging in alcohol and women without restraint, and completely draining his body. It's truly incomprehensible how he suddenly lost control, and who knows what will happen to him in the future.

The train arrived at the station, and Gu Ye and Bao Ni got off with their things. Lin Bo said he would pick them up, but they didn't know if he had arrived yet.

"Sister, brother-in-law, over here."

"Wow, you have quite a loud voice. Looks like you're in good health."

Gu Ye looked at his brother-in-law and realized that he was already over fifty years old.

"It's alright. As long as you keep exercising, at least your belly hasn't gotten bigger. Brother-in-law, you look great too, you've kept it in good shape."

"Of course, I also insist on morning exercise now, and I can spar with your sister a few times when I have nothing to do."

Lin Bo took the things from his sister and walked out, his car parked outside.

"Lin Bo, you haven't been on any sea missions lately, have you?"

"No, I just got back a few days ago. If you had come back ten or fifteen days earlier, I would still be at sea."

Lin Bo is now the captain, doing a good job, and he can continue to serve until retirement.

"You've worked hard. Our main military force is now at sea. Who would have thought that in just a few decades, we've upgraded from slingshots to artillery?"

"Yeah, sometimes it feels like a dream. The naval base has changed a lot. You wouldn't believe it if you saw it."

Lin Bo was very excited; this was a source of pride for him as a naval officer.

"Forget it, I don't want to think about anything now. Once I take off my uniform, I'll be completely free of it. Knowing how strong our national defense is, what is there to worry about? I'll leave the rest of my life to Comrade Lin Baoni."

"What?! Brother-in-law, is this how you talk now? Aren't you embarrassed?"

Lin Bo felt goosebumps rise on his skin. His brother-in-law was just too different.
