Chapter 124 A Joyful Encounter on the Island

Many people were sent down to the island, but perhaps because they were far from some of the "centers," they didn't receive much attention. Even the most capable young men couldn't escape seasickness; the trip was too much of a ordeal. So, they rarely came anymore.

The island's residents are too busy trying to make ends meet, and with the harsh natural conditions—typhoons—they have no time for anything else. Especially after the accident involving the second team, nobody wants to cause trouble anymore.

When Bonnie arrived, she heard voices coming from the seaweed-roofed houses where the sent-down people lived.

During the off-season, besides going fishing, most of them stayed on the island mending fishing nets. Lacking experience and strength, going on the boat was a burden for them.

Is Professor Gao here?

Bonnie stood outside the door and called softly, not knowing who was inside, so she didn't dare to go in casually.

"Old Gao, it seems like someone's looking for you."

Inside the room, there were five people in total: four men and one woman. Apart from Professor Gao, the other four had been there for some time. The person speaking was Professor Gao's former colleague, now a fellow sufferer, someone who could look out for each other.

Who's looking for me?

Gao Cheng's relatives have all cut off ties with him, and he is all alone. Who will come looking for him?

"Professor Gao, do you still recognize me, Lin Baoni? I asked you about seaweed farming before, and you gave me some information. Do you remember?"

Bonnie hurriedly revealed her identity, trying to evoke his memory.

"I remember, what are you doing here?"

“I’m from the island. I was visiting relatives there.”

Bonnie looked at Professor Gao, who appeared somewhat haggard but seemed to be in good spirits, and felt a sense of admiration. Few people could remain so calm after falling from such a height. Most would become depressed, numb, and resigned to their fate.

"Are you Comrade Bao Ni from Captain Lin's family?"

The only woman in the room heard Bonnie's voice and came out to see what was going on, only to find that she was a "celebrity".

"Does the auntie know me?"

"Everyone on the island knows Lin Baoni's name. We've been here for so long, we've heard a bit about her. We haven't thanked you yet for getting us out of trouble last time."

Bonnie hadn't expected her reputation to be so widespread. She touched her hair a little embarrassedly, feeling a bit ashamed. It must be because she'd become a mother. It wasn't like before; she used to be so proud!

“Yesterday I vaguely saw a familiar figure, but I couldn’t remember who it was. When I got home and mentioned it, my husband said it might be Professor Gao, so I came to confirm. Professor Gao, since you’re new here, is there anything you need?”

"Luckily, I brought a lot of things with me, so it's enough for now. But, but, could you please keep some of these things for me?"

"As long as it's not something that harms the country and the people, it's fine."

Bonnie is very cautious about safety, having lived in the military her whole life and received safety education from a young age.

"It would be a shame if some of my academic achievements were destroyed before they could be proven through experiments. If I have the opportunity to go back, you can return them to me; otherwise, you can find a chance to hand them over to the country."

Professor Gao turned around and went back into the house, taking out a thick stack of papers wrapped in oil paper.

"That's all. Decades of research, all ruined. Only these core data remain. Please, Comrade Lin Baoni."

Professor Gao bowed to Bonnie, which startled her so much that she quickly jumped aside to avoid him.

"No need, don't worry, I'll keep it safe."

"Keep it safe. It's not feasible under the current conditions, but maybe there will be an opportunity in the future as the country develops and technology advances."

Your prophecy has come true. Decades later, the country is at the forefront of the world, with all industries developing well. The lion of the East has awakened.

“Okay, I know. When you have free time, think about seaweed cultivation. That’s all I can care about. I don’t know anything else. I was almost successful before, but a typhoon blew most of it away. The remaining seaweed is growing well, which proves that seaweed can be artificially cultivated.”

"You've figured out spore reproduction, that's impressive!"

Professor Gao never expected this girl to be so quick to understand and have such a strong self-learning ability!

"Did you understand it on your own and succeed in the experiment?"

Professor Gao's colleague exclaimed in surprise, "That's incredible!"

Oh my god, Bonnie was so embarrassed that she couldn't bring herself to say what came next.

"Ahem... Professor Gao, you overestimate me. How could a high school graduate like me be self-taught?"

"Cough cough..."

Bonnie fanned herself with her hand; it was a little hot.

"Then, how do you raise them?"

"The amount of natural seaweed seedlings we get from Haidilao, the amount we clip onto the rope, is just too small to be mass-produced!"

Professor Gao was speechless. This girl was really something else; she could even go to the seabed to collect seaweed seedlings. Nobody else could do that.

"I understand, I'll look into it."

"Professor Gao, if you need anything or any help, just let my dad and the others know. This kind of environment will eventually change. Taking good care of your health is the most important thing. As long as you're healthy, you can always make a comeback."

That's enough said. Bonnie can't stay any longer; too many people talking will only make things worse for everyone.

"Lin Baoni? What are you doing here?"

As soon as I stepped outside, I ran into an aunt from the third team.

"Oh, Aunt Liang? I'm just running an errand for my dad to see how their paperwork is coming along. Reforming them is mainly about their thinking; we need to save their energy for work, right?"

"Bonnie was right after all. She truly is a talent from our island!"

"Aunt Liang, I'll take that as a compliment."

"Ha ha……"
