"I am Lin Hai, and you are Han Weidong?"
"I am Han Weidong."
Lin Hai had previously underestimated the group of educated youth at the settlement. They were a few years older than him, so what was so special about them? Especially that guy named Han Weidong, who was treated differently by Sister Bao Ni, which he resented.
"You guys have practiced before, and you look pretty good. How about you have a friendly spar sometime?"
"How old are you? Are you sixteen?"
Han Weidong realized that this kid was the leader of the group of guys on the island. He looked tall and strong, and his way of speaking was quite savvy.
"What's wrong with not being sixteen?"
Lin Hai was a little over fifteen years old, but he was quite tall.
"I don't fight with children. If you really want to spar, go ahead and apply. If Aunt Liu Jiu agrees, I'll be happy to oblige. Children are now under Aunt Liu Jiu's jurisdiction. Fighting them without permission falls under the category of brawling and will be punished."
“Okay, I’ll talk to Bonnie.”
Lin Hai wanted to act recklessly, but he didn't dare because of Lin Baoni's formidable reputation. He had witnessed Lin Baoni disciplining his older brother before, and the thought of it still made him wince.
After Han Weidong and the others recovered, they helped Dong Weiguo and the other two walk towards the educated youth settlement.
"By the way, Lin Hai, right? Tell them to apply a hot compress when they get home tonight, or you can massage each other's calves, otherwise it will be even more uncomfortable tomorrow."
Han Weidong took a few steps, then turned back to Lin Hai and said.
"Okay, thanks."
After Han Weidong and his group had walked away, the group of kids on the ground finally got up, all of them grimacing.
"Alright, don't forget to apply a hot compress when you get back, or those of you who live nearby can massage each other. They're all from the military compound, they have more experience than us, so listen to them."
Lin Hai is, well, a bit of a chuunibyou (a person with delusions of grandeur). If someone is capable, he'll respect them, like Lin Baoni, whom he absolutely obeys. As for Han Weidong, he still needs to confirm that.
Bonnie didn't know there would be this show after she left; she had other important things to do.
After getting the project plan from home, Bonnie went to the military logistics department.
The leader who received her reviewed Bonnie's plan, especially the one suggested by Gu Ye—that seaweed farming might entangle enemy submarines. While this seemed a bit far-fetched, the possibility couldn't be completely ruled out.
"Comrade Lin Baoni, we will hold a meeting to study your proposal and will notify you of the results."
"Understood, thank you for your help, leader. Also, as I mentioned in my report, I requested some wasteland on the small island. After all, there are still more than twenty young boys there. We can't let them work on an empty stomach; they are the future of our country."
Bonnie's thought was that even if the military ultimately disagreed, she could settle for applying for some wasteland on the island, just to make sure they had enough to eat! She had planted a lot of corn and wheat last year, but it was a drop in the ocean and did nothing to help.
For the next two days, Bonnie took the boys to the beach in the mornings to train their stamina. It went quite well; at least none of them fell behind. However, the constant growling of their stomachs was impossible to ignore.
Are you all hungry?
“Yes, Bonnie, I don’t usually eat very much, but I can tolerate it when I’m not very active. Now that I’m active every day, I get hungry even faster.”
Lin Hai touched his head sheepishly; his stomach was growling the loudest.
"I understand, I'm thinking of something. If it works, we can have an extra meal in the morning. Does anyone here know how to cook? Something simple like flatbread or cornbread?"
"I can."
Qian Shan raised his hand, as did the two boys on the island.
"Okay, that's enough for today. We'll continue tomorrow."
Bonnie picked up Sanqi and needed to go home early today to see how much food her family had left.
"Comrade Lin Baoni, the logistics leader requests your presence."
As soon as she arrived at the entrance of the family compound, the soldier on guard saw Bao Ni and quickly relayed the order from his superiors.
"Okay, thank you."
Bonnie took Sanqi to the logistics department again.
"Comrade Lin Baoni, you've arrived. Please have a seat. This must be your son; he looks just like his father."
Judging from her tone, she seemed to know Gu Ye quite well. Bao Ni smiled but didn't say anything, and put Sanqi on the ground for him to play with.
"Boss, have we finished discussing this?"
"Well, after careful consideration, we agree to your plan, but the support we can give you may not be much. First, the military's funding is limited, and second, you won't have many personnel during the first year of the experimental phase, so please bear with it for now."
Bonnie had also considered this; they were currently in the experimental stage and lacked supporting data. In the future, when seeking investment, there would need to be tangible results before discussing prospects and persuading people to willingly part with their money.
“I understand, I have no choice. The island is where I was born and raised, and the family compound is where I will live in the future. Whether it is the people on the island or the military spouses in the family compound, I just want to do my best to make their lives better.”
Bonnie really thought so. Otherwise, why would she go to so much trouble? With Gu Ye's salary and savings, they could live quite well.
"I understand, you are a role model among military wives."
"I wouldn't dare say that. I just can't sit still. I thought I'd give it a try. If it works out, wouldn't that be great? By the way, what did you say about the wasteland? Is that alright?"
This is what Bonnie is most concerned about at this stage; we can talk about the rest later when we have achieved results.
"The leadership has agreed. You deserve credit for being able to grow crops on that small island. However, you can continue to cultivate the wasteland you cleared earlier, the one you shared with your spouse, but the rest will have to go to the government."
The leaders were also quite embarrassed; the company had worked hard to build it, and they just took over the business directly—it was too…
