After Bao Ni's mother's thunderous rage, Brother Lin and his wife were completely subdued. They worked from dawn till dusk every day, afraid to see their mother. For a long time, Lin Yu felt a pang of pain whenever he saw his mother, like the burning pain of a feather duster hitting his flesh.
Bonnie gained a new understanding of her mother. Her mother hit people regardless of age. Even Sanqi had been quiet for a while and wasn't so rude anymore. He heard the sound.
When Gu Ye returned, he was puzzled as to why Sanqi's mouth wasn't so talkative anymore.
"Baoni, why is Sanqi being so well-behaved?"
"He was scared by his maternal grandmother."
"What?"
Gu Ye didn't understand; his mother-in-law usually spoiled the two children.
"Hit it, with a feather duster, slap slap."
Sanqi heard what his father said and tried to express his feelings about his maternal grandmother hitting people through gestures and words.
Gu Ye was even more bewildered!
“My mother hit my older brother with a feather duster, breaking the handle. Sanqi and Linbo were listening outside the window and were terrified, afraid that their mother would beat him.”
"It hurts, Uncle, I'm crying."
Sanqi's serious little expression is so funny.
Gu Ye never expected his mother-in-law to be so formidable; she could give his brother-in-law, who was so old, a beating whenever she wanted.
"Wife, have you ever been beaten?"
"How could that be? I'm such a well-behaved child, how could I possibly get beaten up!"
"You, a good boy?"
Gu Ye had heard too many of Bonnie's heroic deeds; she probably couldn't even count the number of fights she had gotten into.
"I always get into fights, but I never fight without a reason. I'm always in the right, so why would I get beaten up? My mother persuades people with reason."
"hehe……"
In any case, the incident ended with Lin Yu getting a beating.
As July arrives, the wheat is ripening, and everyone is on tenterhooks. This season is also known for its frequent typhoons.
Every day, many people get up early to secretly worship Mazu at the beach, and you can always see traces of their worship.
"Bonnie, do you think a typhoon will come this year? Will we still be able to have a good harvest?"
Tie Dan's mother came to talk to Bao Ni again. These past few days, she's been feeling anxious and just wanted to talk to Bao Ni. Otherwise, she felt uncertain and didn't want to do anything.
"Typhoons come every year, we just don't know if they'll be big or small, that's something we can't control. Relax, if we gain something, we're lucky; if we lose something, we're destined to. Don't be so anxious about gains and losses, that's not what we intended!"
Tie Dan's mother had never been to school, so she didn't understand the profound truths that Bao Ni was talking about. She just wanted to hear Bao Ni talk, and that made her feel at ease.
Bonnie has no idea she has the effect of a tranquilizer!
Three days later, the typhoon finally arrived.
The sky was overcast, the air pressure was low, and it felt like something was about to press down.
Bonnie secured everything that needed to be secured in the house, and herded the chickens into their coop. She also fastened the windows, filled the water tank, and prepared the firewood. Everything was ready, and there was nothing to worry about.
"Mom, when is Dad coming back?"
Liu Jiu looked at the dark sky and felt a little scared.
"I'll be back after the typhoon passes; Dad has to work."
"Dad is a great hero. He can fight off bad guys and protect the people."
Liu Jiu likes her father and loves him very much.
"They won't protect us!"
Sanqi didn't understand any of that; all he knew was fear because his father wasn't home.
"Mom will protect you. You forgot, Mom is very strong."
Bonnie hugged Sanqi tightly; the boy was angry.
"I'll protect you too. I'm really strong. I can beat Tie Dan, Gang Dan, and Da Zhuang to a pulp."
Sanqi pulled her older sister and they snuggled together in their mother's arms. The three of them huddled together, listening to the increasingly loud wind outside and the pattering of raindrops on the windowpane.
That night, Bonnie slept through the roar of the typhoon, holding one of her children in her arms.
When I woke up the next morning, it was already bright outside!
"Babies, it seems the typhoon has passed."
"Hmm, really?"
The two children suddenly woke up, rolled off the kang (a heated brick bed), and wanted to go out and see what was happening.
Bonnie grabbed the two little ones by the collar and pulled them back.
"Get dressed before you go out, and hurry up."
"well……"
The siblings started getting dressed. With Liu Jiu watching, Bonnie ignored Sanqi and went out first.
The yard is alright; there's not much of the typhoon damage, just a few fallen leaves. The vegetable patch is fine too, unscathed. The vegetables picked yesterday need to be dried immediately, otherwise they'll rot before we can eat them.
"Bonnie, thank goodness! The typhoon was fierce, but unexpectedly, it changed course and didn't come to visit us; it went to someone else's house instead."
Aunt Zhang was perched on the wall, happily talking to Bao Ni, while her husband wasn't home.
"That's right. Judging from the situation, it felt like the sky was falling and the earth was collapsing. I thought, 'It's over. The wheat and seaweed are all going to suffer.' But unexpectedly, it decided not to come at the last minute."
Two women leaned against the wall, thanking the typhoon for not coming. Liu Jiu and San Qi also got dressed and ran out.
"Mom, the vegetables are still here, and so are the chicks."
Liu Jiu is already very familiar with the precautions to take after a typhoon passes, and knows what to look for.
"Yes, they're all here."
Whether adults or children, at this moment, they all had a sense of relief in their eyes.
After breakfast, Bonnie sent Liu Jiu and San Qi to her mother's house to look after them, and then went to the seaweed farming base.
"Sister Bonnie, we've been waiting for you. Let's go to the island to check on the wheat, and then we'll go to the seaweed farm to see how it's going."
"Alright, let's go, let's row four boats across."
With a whoosh, all the team members boarded the boat and headed to their farmland, which was their livelihood for the whole year. They hoped that the Goddess Mazu would bless them!
