"Bonnie, a boat is coming!"
Lin Hai shouted excitedly. He didn't know what was going on, but he was excited to hear that a warship was coming.
Bonnie looked up and saw a ship speeding towards them. The ship wasn't very big, nothing like the ones Old Jiang and his crew had been in back then. Bonnie suddenly felt a surge of pride. Our naval warriors are truly great; they've gone from weak to strong in such a short time.
Zhai Gang and several soldiers arrived in a small boat. "Comrade Lin Baoni, you've worked hard!"
"Political Commissar Zhai, the thing is down there. It looks quite large and heavy. Do you want to go down and take a look first, or have the soldiers retrieve it directly?"
Bonnie asked directly how to solve the problem, as their seaweed seedlings still needed to be salvaged.
"I'll go down and take a look. Sister-in-law, will you lead the way?"
"no problem."
Zhai Gang gave Bao Ni a set of diving equipment. It was the first time Bao Ni had seen diving equipment of this era: a diving suit, goggles, fins... Bao Ni was quite excited to have the equipment. When would they be able to have a few sets?
Led by Bonnie, Zhai Gang and his group quickly found the behemoth, and it really was just as he had imagined. If they weren't in the water and wearing bulky diving gear, Zhai Gang would have jumped out of his skin. He circled the thing a few times, quickly thinking about how to bring it back safely.
With a plan in mind, Zhai Gang gave the hand signal, and the group swam up one after another.
"Comrade Lin Baoni, we need to take this big guy back now. Wait for my news on what to do next."
"Political Commissar Zhai, do you need any help?"
Zhai Gang knew that Lin Baoni was strong, but their soldiers could complete the mission.
"No need, let them come."
Zhai Gang handed the task over to the second battalion commander, gave him some instructions, and the soldiers began their work.
Bonnie and the others watched from the sidelines, one minute, two minutes... until fifteen minutes passed, and then, with a whoosh, that huge thing...
They were pulled out of the water and slowly placed on the deck, where soldiers quickly covered them with felt.
"Comrade Lin Baoni, and other comrades, this matter needs to be kept secret. Can you keep that a secret?"
"It's possible!"
Zhai Gang stood up and saluted them.
Watching the ships sail away, Bonnie and the others composed themselves and continued working; there were still those seedling ropes that needed repairing.
The group dived back into the water, hammered the wooden stakes back in, and secured the seedling ropes. Many seaweed seedlings had fallen off, and Bonnie and the others collected them; they were over a foot long, enough for several meals, and they couldn't let them go to waste.
As the sun set, their small boat slowly rowed towards the shore. They were exhausted, both physically and mentally.
"Bonnie, when can we get those diving tools? They're so cool."
Lin Hai is full of energy, and now all he sees are goggles, flippers, and big cans. He doesn't know what they're for, but he just likes them.
"There will be milk in the future, and there will be bread too!"
"I don't want bread, I want braised pork belly, a big pork knuckle!"
"Ha ha……"
Terrified by the ghost, Lin Gen cried and wailed, "Oh dear, it's terrible to be uneducated! When we get back, we have to make them hurry up and learn some knowledge, at least they should know some common sense!"
Leaving aside Bonnie and the others, let's talk about Zhai Gang. After returning to the team, he went straight to see Commander Yang.
"Report!"
"Come in!"
Zhai Gang pushed open the door and entered Commander Yang's office.
"So, what is it?"
"Reporting to the commander, we've got one this time. It seems to be a new type of detector, brand new, and it shouldn't have been underwater for very long. This typhoon came on strong but suddenly changed course, and this big guy was stopped by Comrade Lin Baoni and her team's seaweed seedling ropes, so it didn't go away with the typhoon."
Zhai Gang, usually a very composed person, couldn't hide his excitement at this moment. The main problem was that their equipment couldn't keep up with international standards, leaving them in a passive position, which was frustrating.
“Great! I’ll call the fleet headquarters right away and get them to take over the research as soon as possible. The sooner we get results, the sooner we can benefit.”
Commander Yang, the highest-ranking leader on the island, was also very excited. He was truly fortunate. Comrade Lin Baoni and the others must be commended, richly rewarded.
Gu Ye, who was on a mission outside, had no idea that his wife had made a great contribution!
The military wouldn't have results so quickly, but Bonnie didn't take it to heart. The seaweed seedlings had been inspected, and the losses weren't significant. Bonnie and her team worked for several more days, carefully inspecting the seedlings and promptly removing any that were bad or diseased to prevent further infection.
Bonnie also obtained some traditional methods for preventing and controlling pests and diseases from Teacher Gao, which provided an extra layer of protection for the kelp seedlings.
"Sister Bonnie, do you think the army will give us a reward?"
After finishing his work, Lin Hai, leisurely rowing his boat, fantasized about being rewarded and secretly gloated.
"That's enough. Even Lin Gen isn't this eager, so why are you getting excited?"
"It's not illegal to think about it, and what if there's a reward? That would be so honorable! I'll take the reward and take a stroll around the island, letting all those gossipy old folks and aunties see that I, Lin Hai, am really something!"
Bonnie felt sorry for Lin Hai when she saw him like this.
The island was crowded and gossipy, and Lin Hai, being mischievous and always quick to anger, had his home visited quite a few times, even getting several sticks broken by his third grandfather. Being an active child, he quickly forgot his injuries, leading to a recurring cycle of trouble and causing him to be constantly criticized by the islanders, ruining his reputation.
Third Grandfather was about to give up, otherwise, when Bao Ni mentioned seaweed farming, Lin Hai was the first one sent over. Third Grandfather hoped that Bao Ni could take this good-for-nothing grandson and do something worthwhile to redeem her bad reputation, otherwise it would be difficult for her to find a wife.
