"Where's Big Brother?" Bonnie suddenly remembered Big Brother Gu; it had been almost a day.
"Ah, Big Brother went back." Gu Ye replied casually. It's good that he left; it saves him from looking at him with strange eyes, which is kind of creepy.
"Gone? Why did you leave so soon?" Bonnie was thinking of bringing Brother Gu some seafood back for him sometimes.
"He's always busy, and these were all difficult leave requests." His brother is at the center of a political storm, and he's walking on thin ice!
"By the way, before my brother left, he told me to take you home to meet Grandpa during the New Year, saying that he was afraid of gossip if I didn't go back. I think he's just trying to trick me into going back." Gu Ye had no attachment to that home and didn't want to run into people he disliked.
Bonnie realized that her older brother was using her connections to try and get Gu Ye to come home.
Go back, why not? Bonnie sensed that Gu Ye was rejecting his home in Beijing, or more precisely, rejecting certain people in Beijing.
“Sure, let’s go back. I’ve never been to Beijing before. Show me around.” Bonnie said, sounding like she’d never seen the world before.
"We'll talk about it at the end of the year. If there are no missions, I'll go back." Want to see Beijing? That's easy. I'll take her out for a good meal then.
"Your brother left. Did you bring him any seafood?" Bonnie thought she should be able to bring some. He'd come all this way, so she should at least bring some seafood back with him.
"I didn't bring it. He left in a hurry. When I got up to check on him, he was already getting ready to board the ship. It's okay, we'll bring it when we get back." Gu Ye didn't take it seriously. Why be polite with his brother? No one else deserved to eat his food.
"You really are something! Besides your brother, there's your sister-in-law too! She bought me a dress, I have to give her a gift in return!" Bonnie may not know much about family matters, but she certainly knows about social etiquette.
"Alright, give me your sister-in-law's address later, and I'll prepare the things and send them over myself." Bonnie thought the Gu family's brother and sister-in-law were good people; they were very dedicated to their brother's wedding, and she wanted to maintain a good relationship with them so they wouldn't become distant.
"I know." Gu Yezhen had never cared about these things. He hadn't gone back or sent anything over the years, except for gifts for his nephew. On the contrary, he often received some things.
"Are we eating at the cafeteria again tonight?" It felt like I hadn't done anything, and it was getting dark.
"Otherwise what?" Gu Ye knew that Lin Baoni couldn't cook, and neither could he. If they didn't eat at the cafeteria, what would they eat?
"I want to eat my grandma's cooking!" Bonnie can't cook, and she's quite picky about food.
"It seems like we can't go back today. We'll have to go back tomorrow at the earliest." Gu Ye heard Xiao Chaoyang say that they would be returning to their parents' home in three days.
"Ugh, so many things to do," Bonnie complained.
"Comrade Gu Ye, is it because you've never cooked before that you can't cook, or have you tried but just can't do it right?" Bonnie wanted to ask if Comrade Gu Ye had any talent for cooking and if he could help her out.
"I've never done it before. Oh, I did cook a big pot of food during field training, putting all the edible things I knew together to make soup." Gu Ye had never cooked a proper meal before.
"Great! Comrade Gu Ye, I'm giving you a task. Tomorrow we'll go to my house, and you can learn to cook with my grandma. I think you can definitely do it!" Bonnie said excitedly, feeling that hope was just ahead.
"Why don't you learn? I've never been in a kitchen since I was a child." Gu Ye felt that cooking was not something a man should do.
"If I could learn it, it would be a disservice to you. My grandmother and mother both have inherited their skills, but neither of them could teach me to cook. They said my cooking could poison people!" They tried and failed repeatedly before finally giving up!
"Well, I've never been in a kitchen before, and I've never thought about learning to cook." Gu Ye was still struggling, unwilling to compromise.
"You said you'd never get married, but you weren't being polite last night, and you were even studying this morning." Bonnie felt annoyed at the thought of sleeping all morning.
Seeing that Lin Baoni was angry again, and thinking about those indescribable wonderful things, Gu Ye realized that learning to cook didn't seem so unacceptable.
We need to make sure Lin Baoni is well-fed; she can't get too thin, otherwise it will be uncomfortable to hold her.
Unaware of Gu Ye's ulterior motives, Bonnie tried to persuade him to learn to cook, as she didn't want to eat in the cafeteria every day.
"Okay, I'll learn, I'll definitely learn it well." Gu Ye thought to himself, "It's just cooking, right? If I can master it, there's no high ground that the People's Liberation Army soldiers can't conquer!"
The two bantered for a while, then got up and went to the cafeteria for lunch.
The canteen is located on the west side of the family compound, not far from Gu Ye's house.
It was Bonnie's first time going to the cafeteria. Along the way, she ran into some other women who were also going to the cafeteria, but Bonnie didn't recognize them.
Gu Ye didn't greet them, and they seemed to dislike him as they passed by, even rolling their eyes at him.
"What happened to them? Did you offend someone?" Bonnie asked curiously.
"Ignore them, they're just a bunch of idle people." Gu Ye was too lazy to pay them any attention and didn't say anything more.
The canteen is very large, and it is said that there is another one inside the military base, which is a place that even military families cannot easily enter.
As soon as Lin Baoni and her group entered, many eyes turned to them.
"Commander Gu's new wife looks so young, is she even an adult yet?" A woman in a blue overcoat whispered to another woman in a floral top beside her.
"He must be an adult, otherwise how could he get a marriage certificate?" the woman in the floral dress guessed.
"Gu Ye, over here." Xiao Chaoyang, who had sharp eyes, saw Gu Ye and his wife coming in and called them over.
Gu Ye led Bao Ni over and introduced her, "Bao Ni, this is our battalion instructor Xiao Chaoyang, and his wife, Lin Wan."
"Hello, should I call you sister-in-law or sister?" Bonnie didn't know who was older between Xiao Chaoyang and her brother.
“Comrade Lin, we meet again. Just call me sister-in-law. I’m older than Gu Ye!” Xiao Chaoyang said proactively.
