A few more days passed, and Gu Ye was able to be discharged from the hospital to recuperate at home, no longer needing intravenous fluids. He was advised to avoid strenuous exercise, and unless there were special circumstances, he could have a follow-up appointment at the island's hospital; the doctor had already prescribed the diagnosis.
“Sister-in-law, we’re being discharged from the hospital now. We’re waiting for you to come and join us. I’ll take you to the beach to collect seafood. As long as you’re hardworking and not lazy, you won’t go hungry. We’ve lived on this island for over a hundred years and we love this sea area deeply.” Bonnie’s face seemed to glow. She had lived on this sea area for two lifetimes.
“I understand, sister. When I saw the sea in front of me, I made up my mind to come. I also want the children to experience the world outside of home. This is a rare opportunity.” Yang Qiaomei is also a great mother who wants to give her children the best within her means.
Bonnie really likes Yang Qiaomei; she's pleasing to the eye.
"Sister-in-law, is Brother Fang going back to his hometown with you this time, or is he waiting for you to come by yourselves?" Bao Ni thought that Yang Qiaomei had finally come all this way, so she should at least bring some seafood back with her. Her family was still there, and they had always taken good care of her and her children.
“Old Fang won’t go back. He’s waiting for the application to accompany the soldier to the army to be approved. He said he’ll ask a soldier to go back with me. We can take some of the things we need from home, and leave the rest at home. We’ll go back someday; that’s our roots.” Like Bonnie, Yang Qiaomei also loves her hometown.
"That's good. It's better for Brother Fang's health not to go on such a long trip. Sister-in-law, are you going to bring back some seafood for your family?"
Yang Qiaomei had indeed thought about this question, but she had already asked around and found that tickets were required.
"I don't have a ticket?"
Bonnie glanced outside the door; no one was there. She whispered, "I can get you some things on the island. No tickets needed. Dried shrimp, dried fish, dried kelp, dried sea cucumber, dried abalone, dried squid, whatever you want, and how much do you want?"
"Really?" Yang Qiaomei's voice rose with excitement, but she immediately covered her mouth with her hand, realizing she had made a mistake.
“This is against the rules, so we can only say we’ll change it, otherwise…” With just a glance from Bonnie, Yang Qiaomei understood everything, just like they did.
"Girl, I really want to bring some seafood back to my parents' home, as well as to the neighbors and friends who have helped me. Do you think 100 yuan can get me more? Is it enough to share with at least ten or eight families? I also need to send some to the cadres in the team. I'll need to ask them for help in the future."
Yang Qiaomei lowered her voice so much that Fang Hongqiang and Gu Ye couldn't hear what the two were whispering about.
"Sister-in-law, before you go back, take a boat to the island. I'll take you there to exchange your belongings. You can choose whatever you need and how much you want. You can also see the living environment beforehand so you can explain it to your parents when you get home." Bao Ni invited Yang Qiao Mei to the island so she could experience it for herself.
"Little sister, you're absolutely right. I'll be in your care then. When I go, will it help if I mention Lin Baoni's name?"
Yang Qiaomei excitedly patted Bao Ni on the shoulder. Luckily, Bao Ni was sturdy, otherwise she would have been in trouble.
"Sister Yang, I'm not exaggerating, but on our island, from the elderly in their seventies and eighties to children as young as seven or eight, everyone knows the name Lin Baoni. When the time comes, you just need to mention my name, and someone will tell you where to find me." Baoni was confident in this much.
For a while, she became the kind of person everyone talked about who would scare children. People would say to children, "If you cry again, the big bad wolf will take you away." But there were no wolves on their island, so some people would say, "If you cry again, Lin Jiabao Ni will come and beat you up."
It worked eight out of ten times, but later her mother and aunts came to her door to complain, and gradually no one talked about it anymore, at least not openly. As for what happened behind her back, no one knows.
"Little sister, you're amazing! I admire you!" Yang Qiaomei exclaimed excitedly, even using her local dialect.
Seeing that it was almost time, Bao Ni decided to thank Master Shen and then get a nourishing soup. Bao Ni and Gu Ye then left the hospital with their things.
"Honey, you seem to really like Sister Fang." Gu Ye knew that Bao Ni was outgoing and could chat with anyone, but she could also tell the difference between close and distant relationships.
"Sister Yang is straightforward and not the type to take advantage of others. It's easy to get along with people like that. Also, we haven't explained things about that stupid doctor yet. Don't think I've forgotten. When you get home, give him a proper explanation. He can come into contact with all sorts of random people. Gu Ye, you're finished." Bao Ni suddenly remembered that stupid doctor. With that kind of brain, she didn't know how he became a doctor.
"Wife, when we get home, I promise I'll tell you everything I know!"
Gu Ye, with a strong will to survive, quickly made a promise.
"Hmph! Let's see how you perform."
Gu Ye, like a lackey, supported Bao Ni, and the two of them playfully bickered. "What are you doing, pulling and tugging in the street, what kind of behavior is this?" An old woman wearing a red armband shouted from afar, startling the two of them.
The two were so caught up in their joy that they forgot about their current situation; even married couples need to keep their distance when walking together. Bao Ni quickly helped Gu Ye up and explained to the approaching woman, "My husband was just discharged from the hospital after being injured and needs help. Please understand."
The old woman looked at the two of them suspiciously. "Are they really injured patients?"
"Of course it's true, we just got discharged from the military hospital and walked all the way here. I was a little weak and swayed a few times. I barely managed to steady myself." Bonnie told the lie very seriously, and Gu Ye pretended to be weak and frail, which actually made it seem more convincing.
"Alright, be more careful next time. Don't pull or shove each other in the street, it's not a good example." The old lady left, but she was still worried, turning back every few steps, clearly concerned.
Bonnie thought to herself, "You're making a fuss over nothing. You'll live a few more decades and see all the kissing people on the street. I wonder if you'll still have the energy to go over and say that they're immoral and affecting the city's appearance."
After the little incident, Bonnie secretly pinched Gu Ye twice, blaming him for it.
When they arrived at Sihaiju, Uncle Shen's soup was already cooked. Bao Ni ordered two more dishes and rice. The two of them ate more than three times as much as others.
"Is the injury healed? Are you going home?" Master Shen came over after finishing his work.
"Hello, Master Shen, thank you so much for these past few days!" Gu Ye quickly stood up to express his gratitude.
"Don't mention it. Bonnie and I have been friends for many years. This is nothing. My dear niece, Gu Ye has been discharged from the hospital. Will you be able to come a few more times before the New Year?" Master Chen asked with concern, as the New Year is only two days away.
“I’ll come over tomorrow, same as always. Get your things ready. I’ll bring a lot this time, it’s my only trip before the New Year.” Bonnie thought for a moment. She would go to the secret base when she got home in the afternoon, and tomorrow she would take Han Weidong and Lin Hai to Sihaiju. Perfect timing, she could give Gu Ye a good boost.
"Alright, niece, I know what you need. Just wait and see." Master Chen was also happy. He could finally get things sorted out again this year. There were still people secretly eyeing his position. They didn't even know their own worth. He wouldn't tell Bao Ni about this.
After eating and drinking their fill, Bonnie and Gu Ye prepared to take the boat back to the island. Their uncle had gone back yesterday and would be coming over tomorrow morning. He wouldn't be able to go back for the New Year either, as he had a mission.
Gu Ye listened for a long time and wanted to say something, but since they were outside, he couldn't say too much.
