Bonnie had no idea that her conversation with Director Hu would be known to the parties involved so quickly, causing a fierce argument between the Nan family father and daughter.
Bonnie was buying new clothes and shoes for the children at the department store, as well as a lot of food and other necessities. She moved effortlessly among a group of aunties and grandmas. If it weren't for her constant sneezing, no one would know who was missing her.
Bonnie was wrong this time. Nobody was thinking about her; it was Dr. Nan who was scolding her.
This time, Dean Nan was no longer going to tolerate his daughter. In the past, if she bullied others or caused minor trouble because of her family background, he could handle it without it affecting him. But not now. He couldn't control the Gu family, especially Gu Ye's older brother, Comrade Gu Ze.
This parent's values are truly warped, proving the saying, "Behind every bratty kid, there's one or a group of bratty parents!"
"Dad, don't you also admire Commander Gu? You say he's young and promising, and has a capable older brother, so he has a bright future. Why don't we give that fisherwoman money, a lot of money, and make her leave on her own?" Dr. Nan was still sobbing and pleading. She was in her thirties and had never liked a man so much before, especially since he had saved her.
Dr. Nan is not listening to anything right now; her mind is filled with fantasies about the wonderful life she will have after marrying Gu Ye.
"Nan Lanlan, I'll say it one last time: this matter ends here. If you continue to cause trouble, don't blame me for transferring you to a remote military hospital, making it impossible for you to come back. You know I mean what I say, I'm not bluffing. I can turn a blind eye to minor squabbles, but when it comes to family matters, you need to be clear-headed." Dean Nan's face was sinister as he stared coldly at Nan Lanlan.
"Hiccup...hiccup..."
Even if Nan Lanlan was stupid, she could tell that what her father said was true; his eyes were terrifying.
"I...I understand. I'll never look for Commander Gu again," Nan Lanlan stammered. She couldn't go to remote places; they were too terrifying.
Seeing his daughter stagger back to her room, Dean Nan's expression softened. Turning to Director Hu, he said, "Director Hu, the child is being silly and making you laugh. She's your only daughter, and her mother spoils her rotten."
Director Hu was sweating bullets, but could only smile and reply, "It'll be better after you get married. Children who are loved mature later."
Dean Nan waved his hand, knowing that Xiao Hu was giving him a way out. What kind of family's daughter in her thirties acts like this? It's laughable. It's all because her mother spoils her.
Dean Nan was quick to shift the blame in his mind; everyone else was at fault, how could he be wrong?
As Director Hu left Dean Nan's house, he silently resolved to keep a close eye on his own children; he simply didn't have the capacity to clean up their messes. Dean Nan's parenting style was truly...
No one knows about Director Hu's dilemma, and even if they did, they wouldn't be interested.
Bonnie, who had just left the department store, was also laden with purchases; her entire basket was overflowing.
"Sister Bonnie, did you bring the whole department store back? You bought so much?" Lin Hai's habit of being cheeky kicked in again, which made Bonnie glare at him once more.
Lin Hai slapped his mouth. Really, why was he so annoying?
Master Shen packed everything up, including a New Year's gift for Bao Ni. Bao Ni didn't stand on ceremony and treated the boys to a good meal. They came with five baskets, but there was one extra on the way back, just enough for each of them.
First, they went to Bao Ni's parents' house, left New Year's gifts and some food, including meat, and also shared some with Han Weidong and the others.
This is a business with no cost involved, and Bonnie never calls anyone stingy.
Bao Ni asked Han Weidong and a few others to help her take the remaining things back to the family compound; she still needed to pack them up.
Gu Ye's injury hasn't healed yet, and he's still on vacation before the Lunar New Year, so Bonnie isn't worried about him ruining the meat.
Liu Jiu and San Qi were the happiest. They love eating meat, and their mother also bought a lot of other delicious food. They saw it all. It's so great to celebrate the New Year!
After seeing Han Weidong and the others off, Bao Ni took out some food and asked Liu Jiu to take San Qi inside to play. She told them not to play around while eating, as it was dangerous.
Liu Jiu knew that she had a very vivid memory of seeing Tie Dan's face turn red and look pained when he choked.
"Don't worry, Mom, I'll look after my little brother."
With Liu Jiu's help, Bao Ni felt at ease and tidied up the things in the kitchen with Gu Ye.
"Wow, Uncle Shen is so generous! There's so much good stuff this time: big bones, mutton, lamb ribs, pork ribs, two chickens, and a lot of pork!" Bonnie exclaimed as she unpacked the food.
Looking at Bao Ni like this, Gu Ye felt a warm glow in his heart. This was the home he had always wanted!
Dinner consisted of braised pork ribs and braised prawns, cooked by Gu Ye, along with a large bone and kelp soup. It was a huge meal, and the four of us ate with gusto, our mouths greasy with oil.
In winter, when the temperature was low, the two children moved back to Bonnie's room and slept together on the heated kang (a traditional Chinese bed-stove).
The two children hadn't seen their father for a long time, and they clung to him, their heads resting on his lap, as Gu Ye told them a bedtime story. Gu Ye's voice was very pleasant and magnetic, and the two children fell asleep to their father's story.
Bonnie put the two children in bed, covered them with the blankets, and kissed them both.
"Hmm, what about me?" Gu Ye pointed to his forehead and looked at Bao Ni with a smile.
Bonnie crawled over, looked at the childish guy with amusement, pressed his forehead, and gave him a big kiss.
"Okay, let's go to sleep. You've had a long day."
Gu Ye told Bao Ni to lie down quickly. She was exhausted from the past few days and fell asleep almost immediately, snoring loudly.
Gu Ye lay down next to Bao Ni, listening to her snoring, feeling unusually at ease, and soon fell asleep as well.
This year's Spring Festival was the happiest in recent years. Gu Ye stayed at home, without being on duty or rushing around, but peacefully staying at home.
Liu Jiu didn't go out to fight for territory; instead, she stayed by her father's side to help out. Despite her young age, Liu Jiu was very strong and did many things quite well.
Sanqi had no part in the kitchen work, so he just stood with his hands behind his back, following closely behind his mother, occasionally offering his opinions as if he knew a lot.
On New Year's Eve, Gu Ye prepared a table full of dishes: cumin lamb slices, hand-pulled lamb chops, braised pork belly, braised sea cucumber with scallions, abalone stewed with chicken...
Gu Sanqi was quite pathetic; before she even started eating, her mouth was already watering.
"Oh my, my good boy, wipe your drool." Bonnie's teasing words made Gu Sanqi blush. Is such a young child so concerned about his image? He has quite a heavy idol baggage.
"cheers!"
"Happy New Year!"
"hapiness!"
Cheers!
Four people, each holding a glass of soda, clinked their glasses together in a rather serious manner, and the crisp sound actually looked quite convincing!
71 years have passed just like that, and tomorrow will be 72 years!
