After May Day, Bonnie and her seaweed planting team got busy again, harvesting seaweed seedlings, clamping them, and setting up seedling ropes...
This year, we used raft farming, which Bonnie tried based on her memory, and so far the results have been quite good.
Bonnie and her team worked for more than half a month before they finally planted the seaweed, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
This spring was dry, and the corn seedlings didn't emerge well because of the drought. Even with water-planting, about one-fifth of the seedlings didn't sprout. Bonnie and her friends were busy replanting corn after planting seaweed; otherwise, the autumn harvest would be reduced.
Looking at the wilted corn seedlings, Bonnie and the other women in the family compound silently prayed to the goddess Mazu for rain to come soon, otherwise these seedlings might not survive and would most likely perish.
I don't know if it's because of the recent marriage, but Commissar Wang has been particularly active lately, holding meetings big and small non-stop, and he also appears in places you don't know from time to time. You have to be very careful about what you say, for fear of him finding something wrong with you.
Bonnie had wanted to shove him in a sack and beat him up countless times!
Many people may have this idea, but they don't know when they incurred public wrath. It wouldn't be surprising if Political Commissar Wang were to get beaten up.
Now, the two things everyone does every day are: one is to pray to the Goddess Mazu for a good rain to save the crops; the other is to silently pray that Political Commissar Wang will have bad luck, trip and fall when he goes out, or choke on his water...
The rain came unexpectedly. When Bonnie woke up in the middle of the night, she suddenly heard thunder and sat up abruptly. "Gu Ye, listen, isn't that thunder? It's going to rain!"
Gu Ye was suddenly woken up and became fully awake. "Hmm, it's thundering, the air is humid, it's going to rain." Gu Ye is very sensitive to changes in the air, so it's probably true.
"You're quite accurate. If you say it will rain, it definitely will."
Bonnie has an inexplicable trust in Gu Ye, believing that he is omnipotent.
"It's my honor to have such high hopes for me," Gu Ye said, putting on his shoes and getting out of bed.
"Where are you going?" Bonnie didn't understand. Why did she get so excited after just a few compliments, wanting to go out and run a few laps or something?
"I'm going to check on the children. It's thundering. I wonder if they're awake yet?" Gu Ye went to check on the children. Bao Ni thought about it and realized that she wasn't a stepmother. How could she not have thought that the thunder would wake the children? She shouldn't have done that.
A short while later, Gu Ye returned.
"How are you? Are you awake?" Bonnie wasn't a stepmother, so she quickly asked.
"It's okay, he's sleeping soundly and isn't reacting at all."
Gu Ye looked and saw that the siblings were both sleeping soundly and showed no signs of waking up.
"Crackling and popping..."
"Gu Ye, it's raining!" Bonnie exclaimed excitedly upon hearing the sound of raindrops hitting the glass.
"Yes, it's raining. I told you, it was going to rain heavily."
Gu Ye's arrogant persona has been established again; he's really easily flattered.
"Okay, you're amazing, you're Master Gu. Master Gu, now show your power and make Political Commissar Wang have a bad day."
Bonnie's anger surged as she recalled the mess she'd made recently. She wished a bolt of lightning would strike Commissar Wang, leaving him charred and bruised.
"What did Political Commissar Wang do to offend you so much that you hate him so much?" Gu Ye looked at Bao Ni, who was full of resentment. His wife hadn't disliked anyone this much in a long time.
"I just hate him, especially his new wife. I just don't like her from the bottom of my heart, and I don't know why. And lately, Political Commissar Wang has been like a peacock trying to show off, always running to the family compound, trying to get attention from his wife and causing us trouble."
It's made us so afraid to speak freely now. We never know when he'll pop out and give us a lecture, making a big deal out of nothing. It's so annoying! And every time this happens, his new wife looks at him with such adoration. My god, it gives me goosebumps.
I have no idea what's wrong with his wife. She doesn't want to associate with anyone in the family compound anymore. Instead of advising Political Commissar Wang to tone it down, she seems to be adding fuel to the fire. I really don't know what she's trying to do.
Bonnie launched into a rant, but she didn't really get to the point; she was just very dissatisfied.
Gu Ye seemed to be deep in thought, and he kept this matter in mind. Commissar Wang had been a bit too eager for quick success and instant benefits lately, which was a bit abnormal.
Bonnie felt much better after talking, and she was also sleepy. The main problem was that it was raining quite heavily outside, and it looked like it would continue for a long time. She had nothing to do tomorrow, so she could sleep in.
"Gu Ye, when you leave this morning, please take Gu Sanqi to his maternal grandmother. I want to sleep in tomorrow; I'm exhausted these past few days."
Bonnie's eyes were almost closed when she suddenly thought of Gu Sanqi. She had to get him away, otherwise she wouldn't be able to sleep in.
"Okay, I got it. Go to sleep now, you can sleep until the sun is high in the sky tomorrow." Gu Ye covered Bao Ni with the blanket. His wife was really exhausted because of the drought lately.
When Bonnie woke up, the house was quiet. Liu Jiu was able to go to school by herself, and San Qi had been taken to her maternal grandparents' house by her father. She was all alone. It was so nice and quiet.
I opened the door; the rain had stopped, but there were many small bubbles in the yard. The rain had been heavy last night, and the water hadn't had time to drain, leaving small bubbles everywhere.
"Baoni, you just woke up?" Aunt Zhang from next door saw Baoni standing in the yard, looking like she had just woken up.
"Yeah, I heard it was raining last night, and I got so excited that I couldn't sleep for a long time. I overslept this morning."
When Gu Ye heard what Bao Ni said that night, he insisted on asking who was snoring so loudly last night.
Bonnie was too embarrassed to admit that she slept in, so she told a harmless lie.
"Where's your Sanqi? Why are you letting her sleep so peacefully?"
“Gu Ye took me to my parents’ house this morning before he went to work, otherwise would I have been able to sleep so late?” Bonnie knew Gu Sanqi too well; he was a master at ruining the atmosphere.
"Oh my, what a lucky person! Your Gu Ye is the role model in the family compound. Those old men should learn from him." Zhang's wife felt that compared to Gu Ye, her husband Zhang was completely inadequate.
"Sister-in-law, stop praising me. My Gu Ye is almost friendless. He's going to be ostracized by all his comrades."
After chatting with Aunt Zhang for a few minutes, Bao Ni finished washing up and went to her parents' house to find something to eat; she was hungry.
As soon as she left the family compound, she saw an annoying figure: Political Commissar Wang's new wife.
But what's wrong with this person? He seems suspicious, like he's up to no good.
Bonnie didn't rush after her, but instead glanced at her; it seemed she was heading towards the rocky shore.
Bonnie wanted to follow, but unfortunately she was empty-handed. If she were discovered, she wouldn't have any excuse.
Bonnie hesitated for a moment, then decided to go to her parents' house first, eat and drink her fill, and then pick up her tools to scout out where she was going. She didn't believe Bonnie had gone to the beach.
Upon arriving at her parents' home, Bonnie quickly finished her meal, then left with her basket on her back and a machete in hand.
"Bonnie, where are you going?"
When Bao Ni's mother returned, she saw her daughter's departing figure. What had she been up to this time?
"I'm going to go beachcombing," Bonnie called out, though she wasn't sure if her mother heard her.
Bonnie ran all the way to the beach, casually looking for traces of Commissar Wang's wife, hoping to find something out about her and make Commissar Wang think twice.
