"Does anyone in your family send you letters?" Eagle looked at Wang Tiezhu with icy eyes.
“It was probably sent by my brother; he’s in another province.” Wang Tiezhu said without hesitation, his words sounding very genuine.
Eagle wondered if this was a genuine messenger or someone coming to arrest him. Some time had passed since the explosion, and he figured those people wouldn't just stand by and do nothing; his men were either already there or on their way.
Outside, Gu Ye was calling again.
"Old Black, take him out and get the letter, then send the man away." Eagle didn't want any more trouble; they planned to leave by water tonight.
Wang Tiezhu's heart pounded. This was his only chance; his life hung in the balance. If he could escape, he would be lucky; if not, he would accept it. Otherwise, these people wouldn't have spared his life—he knew that much.
Old Hei walked out close to Wang Tiezhu, his gun already cocked and pressed against Wang Tiezhu's lower back.
Gu Ye was about to call out again when he saw two people come out of the house.
The person in front is the homeowner, Wang Tiezhu; he had seen him at the neighborhood committee office.
The photo of Wang Tiezhu was a group photo with some kind of model worker; the neighborhood committee director had only shown it to them.
But who's that in the back? There's no man that age in his house. Are his wife and children inside? Who else is in the house?
Wang Tiezhu approached. This postman wasn't Xiao Zhang, who often came to their neighborhood. Was he new or a policeman? Wang Tiezhu's mind suddenly started racing. How could he deliver the message?
"Wang Tiezhu, what are you doing? I've called you so many times, why did it take you so long to come out? You're wasting time, it's almost dark, I need to get off work too!" Gu Ye complained, not knowing how Wang Tiezhu would respond.
"I'm so sorry, Xiao Zhang. Your sister-in-law and children aren't home, and I had guests over. I was busy cooking and things got chaotic, so I didn't have time to help out."
Wang Tiezhu felt that he had used up all his wisdom from the past forty years in this moment, and he wondered if the other party would understand what he was saying.
"My sister-in-law and the others went back to her parents' home. I was wondering why she was there all day when I called her. So you've been home alone all day? Did you have some guests?"
Gu Ye was incredibly excited. This Wang Tiezhu was quite clever. Everyone else in the house was away, and he was the only one there. They had guests, and he wondered how many they were.
"We have guests. We need to prepare something delicious so we don't run out of food and people will laugh at us for being stingy."
Gu Ye continued the conversation, trying to get more information, ignoring the impatient look on the other person's face.
Wang Tiezhu had already confirmed that this was a policeman; he called him Xiao Zhang, and he didn't deny it. They all knew who the postman Xiao Zhang was, not this person.
"No way, I've prepared a lot. Six or seven people are coming to my house, how can I not prepare more?"
Wang Tiezhu told him the number of people in the room, and he was a little unsure of what to do. The gun at his waist had already hit him several times.
"I'm not going to talk to you anymore, the guests must be getting impatient," Wang Tiezhu said, indicating that he wanted to end the conversation.
"I'm in a hurry too, I still have a few letters to deliver. Brother Wang, where's your seal? Just sign and stamp it." Gu Ye approached Wang Tiezhu with the notebook, his mind focused on finding a way to rescue the man; he couldn't let Wang Tiezhu go back in.
They were standing in a cramped spot, which made it difficult for him to move around, so he had to move a little further out.
Gu Ye put the notebook back in the bicycle basket, then took out a letter, which wasn't a real letter, just an envelope.
"Brother Wang, you're here, take this, let me see how many more places we need to deliver to." Gu Ye wanted Wang Tiezhu to come a little closer, as he was more confident in subduing the people behind him.
Wang Tiezhu wanted to walk over, but Lao Hei behind him didn't want to and grabbed him, preventing him from moving.
Did Gu Ye realize that this person had a gun or a knife? He had to hit him in one fell swoop.
Gu Ye walked over and handed the letter to Wang Tiezhu. The moment their hands touched, Gu Ye threw Wang Tiezhu backward and kicked him as well.
Old Hei moved even faster, pressing the trigger, the bullet grazing Gu Ye's arm, and the gun was kicked away by Gu Ye.
"Run!"
Gu Ye and Lao Hei had already exchanged blows, but Gu Ye didn't forget to shout at Wang Tiezhu.
Wang Tiezhu got up and ran outside quickly.
Gu Ye's close-quarters combat skills were far superior to Lao Hei's; after a few rounds, he was subdued. The soldiers behind him also surrounded him, and the security bureau personnel took over the man.
The eagles inside knew they were exposed and that a fierce battle would be necessary to break out. The surrounding crowd had already been evacuated by the police; this area was now occupied only by Gu Ye, the security bureau, and the police.
Eagle and his men were inside the house, occupying a favorable position, making it difficult for them to get out. It would be easy for Gu Ye and his men to attack, but extremely difficult to attack without getting hurt.
Wang Tiezhu didn't go far. He told the police that there were still five people in the house, and that there were guns, grenades, and explosives. That's what he saw.
Gu Ye raised his fist as a signal, and the other team members dispersed according to the previous arrangement, finding locations that were advantageous to them.
“Eagle, you can’t escape this time. Come out and surrender, and we’ll try to have a better outcome.” Gu Ye said decisively. Eagle, you can’t escape this time.
"Whether I surrender or not, there's no good ending for me. Let's see who has fewer casualties and who can fight to the death." Eagle knew that it was basically impossible for him to escape, so he decided to take a few people down with him before he died, so he wouldn't lose out.
Both sides were ready, and a great battle was about to break out. Gu Ye took the lead and rushed in. He moved along the wall towards the door, crouching down to make sure that bullets could not hit them.
The group arrived at the designated location and broke down the door.
They already knew the layout of the house. Entering through the door led to the living room, with a room on each side. Because there was no back door, Eagle and his group couldn't leave. All the houses in this area had a similar layout, so Eagle and his group had no choice; otherwise, they wouldn't have chosen a house without a back door.
Bullets kept flying, and it wasn't easy for either side.
Gu Ye knew this wasn't working, so they signaled to change formation and launch a direct assault. The moment they broke through the door, Eagle and his men were momentarily stunned; they hadn't expected them to charge straight in, acting like they were courting death.
In that instant, Gu Ye and his team seized their opportunity, hitting two of them. The remaining three shots missed; the room was small and dark, putting them at a disadvantage with their guns. Once everyone was subdued, the men outside entered. Of the five men, three remained besides the two killed, including Eagle.
The security personnel were familiar with the procedures and quickly conducted checks to prevent them from committing suicide.
Gu Ye ignored them; one of the soldiers was injured and they needed to go to the hospital.
Gu Ye and his team have left, as have the security bureau personnel. The remaining police officers are responsible for calming the public and assessing the losses suffered by Wang Tiezhu's family, which require final confirmation.
The two-day battle is over. The eagle, its wings clipped, can no longer fly.
As for the results of the interrogation, Gu Ye and his team did not participate; that was the work of the Security Bureau and also needed to be kept confidential.
