Chapter 2: Coming to Awaken, Handling the Situation Cautiously

"Mother, I'm awake." Jiang Jiaojiao called out to the door, using the way Lin Baoni addressed her.

"Squeak..."

The door was pushed open, and the old woman who had been arguing with someone by the sea walked in carrying a bowl.

"Baoni, thank goodness, you're awake. If you hadn't woken up, I would have suspected that the People's Liberation Army doctor was lying." As she spoke, she touched Jiang Jiaojiao's forehead.

Despite her discomfort, Jiang Jiaojiao did not dodge.

Lin's mother's calloused hands were warm and dry, and Jiang Jiaojiao unconsciously rubbed against them.

"Amitabha, thank goodness, it's not hot anymore."

Relieved, Lin's mother then slapped Jiang Jiaojiao's arm hard, saying, "You brat, what are you trying to prove? That's the ocean! If you go to save people and don't come back, what will happen to your father, your grandfather, and your brother?!"

As she spoke, her voice choked with emotion.

"Mom, I'll never do it again, really, I was wrong." Jiang Jiaojiao thought of Lin Baoni, who would never come back, and hugged her mother, promising.

From now on, she is Lam Po-nei, the real Lam Po-nei!

Just as she finished thinking, Jiang Jiaojiao felt her body suddenly lighten, as if something had floated away.

Jiang Jiaojiao, who had always been an atheist, silently prayed in her heart, "Lin Baoni, go in peace. I will definitely treat your family well and live a good life, carrying your share of the family's wealth!"

"Alright, Mother believes you."

Lin's mother wiped away her tears, patted her daughter's arm, and brought over the candied eggs she had just placed on the table, saying, "Baoni, come and eat these candied eggs. You've slept for so long, you must be hungry."

"Gurgle..."

Jiang Jiaojiao, not Lin Baoni, covered her stomach embarrassedly; she was indeed hungry.

"It smells so good! I love Mom's sweet and sour eggs. They're even better than braised pork." Lin Baoni took the food with a smile, not forgetting to flatter her mother.

"You brat, I didn't do this, your sister-in-law did it, hmph!" Lin's mother walked away arrogantly.

Oh no, we've hit the bullseye.

I ate a bowl of hot sweet egg soup, even drinking all the soup, and smacked my lips, still feeling hungry.

Lin Baoni has been incredibly strong since childhood, and has a huge appetite, eating more than the average adult man.

Anyway, with food in my stomach, I got up from the kang (heated brick bed), stretched my body, changed my clothes, and went outside.

Pushing open the door, you are greeted by a clean and tidy courtyard, with side rooms on the east and west sides, which are the rare seaweed houses.

In later generations, seaweed houses became an intangible cultural heritage, and the Jiaodong Peninsula area in China has the most of them.

She was born and raised in Qingdao, and is very familiar with the sea. This place has the familiar taste of the sea to her.

In her memory, the history of this era was largely the same as what she had learned before, and the important leaders were all the same.

However, many place names are different; the place she is standing on now has a completely unfamiliar name.

She couldn't figure out if this was some kind of parallel world or what, but whatever, she decided to make the best of it.

"Baoni, are you feeling better? Why did you come out? Why didn't you lie down for a while longer?" An elderly woman in her sixties walked over from the other side, holding a bunch of green vegetables that she didn't recognize.

This is Bonnie's grandmother; everyone calls her Grandma Lin.

"Grandma, I'm fine now. My body aches from lying down, so I'm getting up and moving around." As she spoke, Bonnie stretched her arms and kicked her legs.

"My dear Bao Ni has suffered. Tonight, Grandma will cook you something delicious. Eat more." Grandma Lin is still in good health and can even go beachcombing!

"Go back inside and lie down after getting some fresh air. Take good care of yourself so you won't get sick when you're old," Grandma instructed worriedly as she took the groceries into the kitchen.

Jiang Jiaojiao kept telling herself that she was Lin Baoni, the real Lin Baoni.

After enjoying the breeze for a while, I turned around and went back inside, so as not to worry my family.

Bonnie's room isn't big, about 20 square meters.

The kang (heated brick bed) was about 1.5 meters wide and 2 meters long. At the end of the kang stood a cabinet that looked like a large wardrobe, and on the floor were a table and a square stool.

The room, which may seem simple, is quite luxurious in this era.

This is the Lin family's pampered daughter. Otherwise, let alone such a tidy room, even in a smaller and more dilapidated room, the other girls on the island would all be crammed into one room with several sisters.

This brings us to the Lin family. Going back from Lin Baoni's great-great-grandfather, the Lin family has lived on this island.

Leaving aside the distant past, let's just talk about Grandpa Lin's generation. There were five brothers, and three of them are still alive today.

Grandpa Lin and Grandma Lin had four sons and one daughter. Their second son died fighting against the Japanese.

The other three are all on the island, and their daughter is married and lives not far away.

Not to mention the children born to Grandpa Lin's brothers, the Lin family is a large clan on this island with a large population, especially many men.

Thinking about this whole family, Lin Baoni felt a headache coming on, afraid that she wouldn't be able to match them up and would give herself away.

Let's put everything else aside for now and think about their family members first.

Lin's father was the eldest son. His grandparents lived with him, while his third and fourth uncles had moved out and lived separately.

Grandpa Lin used to be the captain of their team, and now his father has succeeded him.

Lin's father and mother had four children in total. The eldest brother, Lin Yu, was 23 years old, a junior high school graduate, married Song Ping, and had a son, Lin Haiyang, nicknamed Dabao.

The second brother, Lin Tao, is 21 years old, a junior high school graduate, and unmarried.

My younger brother, Lin Bo, is fourteen years old and in the second year of junior high school.

It's hard to imagine that in the 1960s, on an island, a family with four children could all be considered highly educated.

Lin Baoni was also quite surprised; this didn't make sense!

In the 1960s, the island was synonymous with poverty. People couldn't get enough to eat or wear, and the three years of natural disasters had just ended. How could they afford to send their children to school?
