Chapter 20: Inspecting the Secret Base

Bonnie ate four large steamed buns, a plate of vegetables, and a big bowl of soup. She was stuffed.

"Grandma, I'm going back to till the land. There are also steamed buns; don't forget to eat them at noon," Bonnie called out to the kitchen before pushing her bicycle away.

Having eaten my fill gave me energy, and I rode my bicycle incredibly fast, almost as fast as Nezha's Wind Fire Wheels.

I rode to the residential compound in less than two minutes, opened the gate, and entered in one smooth motion, without giving the older woman who wanted to strike up a conversation a chance. I didn't know her anyway, and all I could say now was that she couldn't cook, which I didn't want to hear.

Bonnie took a sip of water, found her tools, and prepared to till the soil. The yard wasn't that big; there were stubble from where it had been planted before, so she just had to dig along those stubble.

Vegetables can be planted on both sides of the main gate and in the side rooms. Turn them over and get to work.

It's been a while since I planted anything, so it's a bit hard, but luckily Bonnie is strong, so it's no problem.

Following the method I remembered, I tilted the shovel slightly and stood it on the ground. I used one foot to press the shovel into the soil, then used my hand to hold the shovel and dig it out. I lifted the soil out of the shovel and put it back on the ground.

After a few tries, it was quite easy, and in no time, one side of the ground was dug up. Then I moved to the other side and did the same thing again, and soon that side was also dug up.

Then she smashed the large clods of earth, making a "pat-pat" sound that sounded very relaxing. Bonnie patted them with great enjoyment.

When Gu Ye came home from get off work, Bao Ni had not only finished turning over the floor, but also cleaned the big fish, steamed the rice, and washed the abalone.

"Are you going to plant vegetables?" Gu Ye looked at the shoveled clods of soil, making it look quite convincing.

"Yes, Grandma will come to plant the seeds tomorrow." After Bonnie finished speaking, the rice was brought out, and it was time to cook the dishes.

Chef Gu took over the job and braised a big fish and steamed abalone. The taste was incredibly delicious.

"Exceptionally talented, amazing, comparable to a master chef at a state banquet..." Bonnie kept showering Gu Ye with compliments, making him feel like a master chef rather than a soldier!

Bonnie's shower of compliments made Gu Ye forget to ask her where the fish came from, and about the big abalone.
