Chapter 214 The Guo Family is in Trouble

When Brother Gu woke up and learned of Bonnie's heroic act, he was full of admiration.

Gu Ye, who went out to find a wife, hasn't returned yet. No one knows if he ran into a friend or what he's doing. Bao Ni isn't worried that anything might have happened to him.

Gu Ye, who was being talked about, was currently staring intently at a group of people.

He went out to find Bonnie, worried that she might venture into the black market alone.

On the island, the surrounding area was familiar to Bonnie, so he wasn't worried about anything, whether it was exchanging supplies or doing other things. In Beijing, however, she was unfamiliar with the place, and if something happened, she wouldn't know where to find help.

A few days ago, when Gu Ye met with Han Ye and the others, he learned that there were several large black markets in Beijing, all controlled by individuals. They remarked that with the Lunar New Year approaching, these people would likely be out in force again. Every year around this time, something unexpected would happen.

Gu Ye went to the location they described, and sure enough, there were people who looked suspicious going in and out. They were incredibly bold, doing this so openly in broad daylight.

Gu Ye stood guard not far from the exit, watching to see if Bonnie would come out from there. This black market was the closest to the military base; the others were all quite far. If Bonnie were to come to a black market, this would be the only one; many of the aunties and grandmas from the compound had been there.

I waited for more than half an hour, but Bonnie still didn't come out. Could it be that I guessed wrong?

Gu Ye planned to go home to check on things; maybe Bao Ni had already gone back.

"They've killed someone! They've killed someone!"

Before Gu Ye had even left, he saw a lot of people pushing and shoving as they ran out, shouting that someone was dead.

Gu Ye's heart tightened. Had something happened?

He went against the flow of the crowd, wanting to see what had happened.

Too many people were running out, and it's unclear who fell first, but those behind them followed suit. This is bad; it could easily cause a stampede.

Gu Ye didn't have time to rush inside. He had to take care of these people first. The military compound wasn't far away, and someone should know the news and come to check on things soon.

"Oh my god, who stepped on my hand?"

"Ah, my legs, my legs..."

"Don't push forward, people in front are falling down."

...

The sounds of wailing and howling echoed through the narrow alley. Gu Ye didn't know why these people were running for their lives.

"I am a People's Liberation Army soldier. Don't move! Stand still!"

Gu Ye shouted at the crowd that was pushing forward from behind, and the crowd quieted down a little, but the crying and shouting became more and more obvious.

The person who fell at the very front was pinned down by several layers of people and couldn't move, feeling difficulty breathing.

Gu Ye began the rescue. The people below couldn't be pulled out by force; they had to be pulled out little by little from above.

The alley was narrow, and he finally reached the crowd struggling to get up. "Don't push forward, there are a lot of people who have fallen and are pinned down. I'll help them up now, and lend a hand to those who aren't injured."

One by one, people were helped up; they all had minor scrapes, some had sprained ankles. As they were helped up, the cries from the crowd below grew louder, and the injuries became more severe.

While Gu Ye was busy, more people rushed over, including medical staff from the military hospital.

"Comrade, we are medical staff from a military hospital. Please speed things up! The person at the bottom has lost consciousness!"

Someone called out from the exit, and Gu Ye knew the doctor had arrived. He increased the speed and strength of his movements. With the doctor there, he didn't need to be so careful.

Gu Ye didn't know how many people he had pulled up, nor how long he had been inside. By the time he met up with the medical staff, there was already a group of people standing outside.

There were medical staff in white coats, police officers in uniforms, and some in plainclothes who looked like members of the Revolutionary Committee. Gu Ye also noticed red armbands.

The doctor provided first aid to those with serious injuries, and bandaged up the wounds of others who were not seriously injured.

"Hello, I'm from the police station. What's going on here? Why are you here?"

A middle-aged man who looked quite serious walked up to Gu Ye and asked him a question.

"Hello, I'm a naval soldier on leave. My wife went out to buy New Year's goods this morning, and I came to pick her up, but there were too many people and I couldn't find her. When I was about to go home, I heard someone shout 'Someone's been killed!' so I went to see what happened."

As soon as I entered the alley, I saw many people running out. Suddenly, someone fell, and then people behind them fell, one after another, until more and more people were falling. I shouted for those behind to stop where they were, and then I squeezed to the back of the crowd and pulled the fallen people up.

Gu Ye explained things clearly, and everyone chimed in, saying that it was the People's Liberation Army that came to their rescue.

The police came with a lot of people and took notes on the people at the scene. Those who were not injured left, those who were seriously injured went to the hospital, and those with minor injuries were allowed to go home on their own or wait for their families to pick them up.

Judging from the situation, Gu Ye realized it was quite serious. The people behind him were being questioned extensively, and he overheard information about a dead body and the act of violence. Knowing the rules, he didn't inquire further, took notes, and went home.

"Where have you been? Why are you only coming back now?" Bonnie asked when she saw Gu Ye come in, his clothes all dirty.

"There was an accident outside, and I helped with the rescue. Where's your older brother? Isn't he home?"

"I just got a phone call and I'm changing clothes inside. It seems like I'm about to go out."

Bonnie didn't know whose phone it was, but Brother Gu's expression was quite serious.

"Brother, is it because of the stampede not far from the compound? It seems people died. I just came back from there and heard some parts of it."

Gu Ye told his older brother what he knew, so that he wouldn't be completely clueless.

"Yes, several people have died. It seems some people from the family compound are involved. The Revolutionary Committee and the Public Security Bureau are implicated. You stay home and don't ask around. I'll go check on the situation first."

Gu Ze started walking out as he spoke, not even letting up during the New Year.

Gu Ye went inside to change his clothes; he was busy rescuing people and got them all dirty.

When Gu Ze returned, it was already past midnight. Everyone else was asleep, but Gu Ye was waiting.

"Big brother, have you eaten?"

"I haven't eaten yet, can you get me something? I'm really hungry."

The two brothers went into the kitchen together. Gu Ze closed the door and said to Gu Ye, "The Guo family is going to be in trouble. The youngest son of the Guo family is involved in this. He was tricked into it. A dispute broke out between two black markets, and in the heat of the moment, they lost control and several people died. Just then, the police, the Revolutionary Committee, and government departments were conducting a joint inspection and caught them red-handed."

After the New Year, another bloody storm will break out.

"How did Guo's youngest son get involved? Isn't he usually a coward?" Gu Ye had specifically looked into it, thinking he'd find a chance to teach him a lesson after the New Year and vent his anger for his wife.

He was lured into gambling, lost a lot of money, and couldn't pay it back. His mother stole his father's seal and smuggled out a lot of goods, ruining his father's life. He could have worked for a few more years, but now he's basically retired.

Gu Ze didn't get involved in their affairs. No one in his family was interested in that position, so he let them fight for it.

"Also, Gu Bei was investigated. Wasn't he always with the Guo family's youngest son? He was so scared that he wet his pants. Gu Xiangdong's face turned black, and he went to pick him up. Gu Bei just hangs out drinking; he doesn't have the guts to do anything else, and he's not worth it."

After chatting for a while, the two brothers cleaned up the kitchen and went back to their rooms to sleep.
