Bonnie had something to do and went to Sihaiju to see Uncle Chen. She parted ways with Aunt Zhang and the others. Aunt Zhang and the others went to the supply and marketing cooperative to see if they had any defective goods that didn't require coupons, just to try their luck.
"Bonnie, what brings you here? Is something wrong at home?"
It wasn't lunchtime yet, and Uncle Lin wasn't busy, when he saw Bonnie come in.
"It's nothing. I came here with the ladies from the family compound. They went to the supply and marketing cooperative. I need to talk to Uncle Chen about something." Looking at her uncle, who had gained even more weight and would never be as fit as before, she wondered if her aunt regretted letting him work as a chef. In the first place, her aunt had only been attracted to her uncle's good looks.
"Bonnie, you're here."
Chef Shen came out of the kitchen. He now only cooks a few main dishes, while other chefs are in charge of the others, but he is responsible for making the purchasing for the kitchen.
"Uncle Shen, I need to talk to you about something. We might have some guests coming over in a few days, and I'll need to trouble you to save some meat for me so I can entertain them." Bao Ni thought that Xuan Yu was growing and needed plenty of meat.
Bonnie didn't know that Xuan Yi and Xuan Yu weren't the only ones who came; that's a story for later.
In the afternoon, Bao Ni met up with Aunt Zhang and the others, but they didn't see Aunt Yang and her daughter, nor Yang's bodyguard. They must not have finished the business yet.
Back on the island, Sister Zhang and Sister Zhou went to Bao Ni's house. They had been upset that day and needed Bao Ni to comfort them.
"Sister-in-law, the persimmons and cucumbers in the yard are ready to eat. Please pick them yourselves. Don't be shy. I also have subsidies from my family, so it's enough for me." Bao Ni knew that the women in the family compound were very frugal. The yard was only so big, and there was limited space for planting. With so many people in their families, the amount they could eat was also limited.
"Okay, we'll pick them ourselves, we won't stand on ceremony with you." Sister Zhang picked two persimmons and two cucumbers and shared them with Sister Zhou.
Freshly picked, rinsed with water, they leave a lingering fragrance and taste delicious.
“We should learn from Bonnie and not always think about the men and children at home. We should also be good to ourselves.” Aunt Zhang said with feeling. She was a few years older than Bonnie and looked much older than her, like two generations apart.
Bonnie is living a good life. Her husband dotes on her, her children are sensible, her family is supportive, and most importantly, she's capable herself. She earns a lot, so she doesn't worry about feeding herself, unlike others who have no income and rely entirely on their husbands. Naturally, they tend to neglect themselves and don't give themselves much. These past two years have been a little better; Bonnie grows seaweed, and they can earn some pocket money.
Women still need to be able to earn money and have confidence!
"Sister-in-law, how was your visit to that woman's house today?" Bonnie went inside to change her clothes; her pants got dirty when she fought with the Wei family.
"At first, the woman was quite cautious and wouldn't go with us. Later, we told her that Weijun wanted to divorce his wife and that Weijun's mother had something to discuss with her, and only then did she relent." Thinking back, Sister Zhang felt that this woman was not simple and had a lot of thoughts.
"She's no pushover. Today at the Wei family's house, when the Revolutionary Committee came, she reacted so quickly, lying through her teeth as if it were the truth. There were several members of the Revolutionary Committee there. If it were us, we would have been scared stiff by now." Sister-in-law Zhou sighed, thinking that if she had encountered someone like her, she would have been finished too.
"You know, Xiang Hong really has bad luck to run into such a man. Watching him fawn over her and thinking about what he did, my hair stood on end. It's terrifying."
Sister-in-law Zhou has never seen anyone like this before; how can she act so well?
The women sighed for a while, then it was time for them to go home; it was time to cook again.
Bonnie didn't want to move. She planned to wait for Gu Ye to come back, have dinner, and then pick up the two children.
Perfect timing! I bought some sponge cakes today to take to Grandma and Grandpa; they're soft and fluffy.
Gu Ye left work on time today. When he got home, he found only his wife at home. He didn't know if the two children had gone out to play or were at their maternal grandparents' house.
"You're back. Let's cook. I don't want to move. We'll go pick up the kids after we eat." Bonnie lay on the recliner in the yard, half asleep.
"Okay, you take a nap first. I'll make some tomato and egg noodle soup. Do we still have some dried noodles at home?"
"Yes, it's on top of the cupboard." Bonnie isn't good at cooking, but she's good at managing supplies, so the family never runs out of food.
After finishing her meal, Bonnie felt alive again. She picked up her things and went to pick up Liu Jiu and San Qi.
"Grandpa, Grandma, Father, Mother." In the courtyard, the old and young were all there, enjoying the cool air after their meal.
"What did you buy again?" Grandma saw that Bonnie had brought in a lot of things and knew that she had bought things for her and the old man again.
"Chicken cake, so soft!" Bonnie called, giving one to each of her grandparents, then to her parents, and finally to the four children.
"Is everything done?" Bao Ni's mother didn't know what she had gone to do.
"It's all done. By the way, Mother, is Linbo's wife about to give birth?"
"There are still two weeks left. I have to go be with her tomorrow. She could have an attack at any time, and she can't be left alone." Bao Ni's mother looked at the four children running around wildly in the yard. Really, what's the point of raising so many children!
Bonnie roughly understood what her mother was thinking: having so many children meant having to help out with each one. Thinking about how her sister-in-law Gu was also about to give birth, she thought, "Oh my god, I'm determined not to have any more children."
The family of four returned home quite late, and the sky was full of twinkling stars.
"Gu Ye, what do you think about me getting a tubal ligation?" Bonnie asked suddenly, watching her two children running ahead.
"What's wrong?" Gu Ye didn't follow Bonnie's train of thought.
"I'm afraid of getting pregnant again, so six-nine and three-seven are enough."
"Don't worry, it won't happen."
Gu Ye held Bao Ni's hand; he had taken precautions.
