Bonnie's house was packed tonight. Thank goodness they moved to their new house and the yard is bigger, otherwise there wouldn't be enough room for everyone.
Five people from Beijing, including Han Weidong and four others, plus Bao Ni's family of four, made up a total of more than ten people!
A bonfire was lit in the courtyard, and the meat skewers on the grill were already emitting a unique aroma.
Meanwhile, Bonnie grilled fish, a dish that kids raised by the sea excel at, resulting in a unique flavor.
"Baoni, take these meat skewers to Grandpa and the others first." Gu Ye placed the grilled meat skewers on a tray and handed them to Baoni.
"Sister Baoni, I'll go deliver it." Han Weidong quickly came over, ready to run the errand.
"No need, I'm just checking to see if my dad and the others are done. You keep an eye on these kids and make sure they don't get burned."
Bonnie not only took meat skewers, but also some local specialties from Beijing that the children had brought. Of this group of children, apart from Gu Xuanyu and his brother, and Bonnie refusing to let Gu's sister-in-law bring any food coupons, all the other children had brought their own food rations.
When Bonnie arrived at her parents' home, her father had just finished washing up; the fishing trip had yielded a good catch.
"Grandpa, Dad, these are freshly grilled meat skewers. You can have some drinks with them. Gu Ye grilled them; they taste pretty good."
"So many people, is there enough to eat?" Bonnie's mother took the large tray from Bonnie's hands. How much did she take!
"There's enough to eat. We got a lot of meat and seafood from Uncle Chen today. Where's Grandma? Why isn't she coming out to eat?"
"I went to the restroom, I'll be back in a bit."
Bonnie handed the things she had brought over to her mother and then prepared to go back herself.
"Auntie, you're here! What's that smell? It smells so good!"
"Erbao, are you a puppy? Your nose is so sharp."
Bonnie has no temper with her nephew who loves to eat; she's very easygoing, but not really stupid.
"Baoni." Lin Yu felt a little awkward around Baoni. She didn't know why, even though she used to love Baoni very much... Sigh...
"Big brother."
Bonnie wasn't uncomfortable. Once siblings grow up, they become two separate families, and the closeness of the relationship becomes obvious. Before they got married, they were both very important to each other, especially when their eldest child was born, whom Bonnie doted on.
However, after marriage and having children, one's status naturally changes. Apart from those who are obsessed with their brothers, no one would value their brother's children more than their own!
"Da Bao, Er Bao, let's go eat barbecue with your aunt. Several older boys have come to our house, and there's lots of delicious food."
"Wow, I want to go!" Erbao immediately stood next to his aunt, ready to leave at any moment.
Da Bao looked at his father, then at his grandmother, hesitating.
"Go ahead and take good care of Erbao. Don't cause trouble for your aunt." Bao Ni's mother spoke up. She understood that Bao Ni wanted to make the two children happy, and she was also worried that all the food would end up in the children's stomachs, and her grandfather and father wouldn't get much to eat.
Bonnie left with her two children, and Bonnie's father and the others prepared to eat.
"Da Bao, Er Bao is here."
Gu Ye was waiting for Bao Ni at the door. When he saw the two children, he greeted them naturally.
"Hello, Uncle." This is Da Bao, a little reserved.
"Uncle, I've come to eat something delicious." This was Erbao, who was very informal.
"Go find Liu Jiu and the others, let's eat together."
Bonnie watched Han Weidong and his friends grilling skewers, while Gu Xuanyu and the others nearby were also eager to try it.
"Has he been laid off?"
"Yeah, they want to try it themselves, so I can take a break. Come on, do it over here, I grilled a plate for you." Gu Ye led Bonnie to the rocking chairs. Between the two rocking chairs was a small table with grilled meat skewers, vegetable skewers, seafood...
Bonnie was really hungry, so she sat in the rocking chair and ate one skewer after another. Gu Ye watched from the side and took every opportunity to hand her a teacup, providing attentive service.
Bonnie would occasionally feed Gu Ye skewers, and the two of them, oblivious to everyone else, were enjoying their time together.
Gu Ye, who had just said he didn't want to eat because he was bothered by the smell, ate quite a bit with Bonnie's help.
"Are you envious?" Zhou Chen and Han Weidong, who had been replaced and had nothing to do, would steal glances at each other from time to time.
"I'm so envious. A person can really change so much. The legendary Gu Ye and the Gu Ye now are practically two different people. I still remember, in 1965, that was the year Brother Gu Ye came back to the compound. His icy aura was chilling from afar." Han Weidong felt that home should be like this: warm, harmonious, and full of mutual love.
"I hope we will find our own love in the future and have a warm home." The two young men sat by the campfire, gazing at the starry sky, and made a wish in their hearts.
"Flip it over quickly, it's burnt! Oh dear, Han Bei, you're no good, get off here, you're wasting the meat skewers."
"Zheng Tao, I'm just inexperienced. Give me another chance, I'll definitely succeed next time." Han Bei was having a great time grilling and didn't want to get off.
"Han Bei, you've said this so many times. If you can't do it, you can't do it. What's there to be embarrassed about? Hurry up, don't force us to take action." Zheng Tao and Gu Xuanyu were eager to try, and Han Bei stopped struggling and gave up his position.
If it were a one-on-one fight, he could put up a fight, but one against two... forget it, he doesn't want to bake anymore.
A wise man knows when to yield and when to stand firm.
When Zheng Jun saw his brother surrender without a fight, his eyes revealed the disappointment and frustration of an old father.
"Brother Da Bao, why aren't you eating?" Liu Jiu looked at Da Bao, who was lost in thought, wondering why he had drifted off again.
"Ah, I'll eat." Da Bao looked at all the delicious food and suddenly thought of her mother, wondering how she was doing.
Liu Jiu felt that Da Bao Ge had become less cheerful, and even when he did smile, he wasn't as happy as before.
