The beachcombing trip was over, and the group returned to their residential compound with their spoils.
Gu Ye and Han Weidong and the others prepared to cook, while Bao Ni went to the cafeteria to buy steamed buns and cornbread, as there wasn't enough time to steam the buns fresh.
In the 1970s, steamed buns were made with a mixture of wheat and flour; large steamed buns made entirely of white flour were a rare treat, eaten only a few times a year. Fortunately, while the food in the canteen wasn't great, the steamed buns were quite good, and the chef who made them was from Shandong.
Gu Ye cleaned the seafood he had prepared that morning, sorted it, and put it away according to the different ways of cooking different types of seafood.
Although it wasn't stir-frying or deep-frying, it was still pretty good. I made a whole table full of dishes; I'm so lucky!
"Alright, let's eat. The table isn't big enough, so stand up if you can't reach the food." Bonnie divided the dishes into two plates so that everyone could get to them.
"This afternoon, I'll take the older kids to practice diving, while the younger ones like Liu Jiu can stay home," Gu Ye discussed the afternoon's arrangements with Bao Ni.
“Okay, it’s a bit early for the three of them to go diving at home. You can bring them all when you take them to visit the warship.” Bonnie also thought Gu Ye’s suggestion was good. They shouldn’t all be brought, especially Sanqi, as it would be too dangerous.
Gu Xuanyi had no objection. He wished he could stay at home every day. If he didn't go out for morning exercise, his legs would ache, his arms would ache, and everything would ache.
In the afternoon, Gu Ye and Han Weidong took several of the older children with them. Liu Jiu didn't go, which Zheng Jun was a little disappointed about.
After everything was packed up, Bonnie took out some food that Han Bei and the others had brought and told Liu Jiu and the others to eat it and play in the yard instead of going outside because it was too hot.
"Bonnie, Bonnie..."
"Mother, what's wrong?"
"Wenli is about to give birth, Linbo isn't home, and I can't take care of her." Bao Ni's mother was both anxious and tired, so she rushed over to find Bao Ni.
"Okay, I understand. Liu Jiu, you stay home and play with your older and younger brothers. Mommy is going to check on your aunt, okay?"
"Okay, Mom, you can go now. We'll look after the house." Liu Jiu waved her hand, urging her mother to leave quickly, as her aunt was about to give birth.
Bonnie ran quickly toward Linbo's house. Her mother couldn't run fast and had to stop and start, as she had gotten a bit of a stitch from running.
The family had prepared a stroller. Bonnie went inside, took a mattress, laid it on, and then helped Wenli into the stroller. "It's okay, don't be nervous. We'll go to the hospital now. If you're in a lot of pain, just yell at Lin Bo. It's all his fault."
"Hehe... Sister, stop making me laugh, it hurts my stomach when I laugh." Cao Wenli wasn't scared anymore; she felt much more at ease as soon as Sister Baoni came in.
"Mom, let's go to the hospital first. You can come over later with the things." Bonnie met her mother at the door, said this, and pushed the stroller away.
"Doctor, please take a look, I'm about to give birth!" Bonnie shouted loudly, and two doctors came running.
"What's going on? How many weeks pregnant are you?"
"39 weeks, everything is normal. I was a little strained just now, and my stomach suddenly started hurting." Cao Wenli knew what the doctor was asking and knew how to answer.
"Okay, let's go into the observation room and I'll check you out." Bonnie helped Cao Wenli inside, where the doctor examined her.
"She's about to give birth. Her pelvis isn't fully dilated yet, so she needs to walk around a bit." Bonnie helped Cao Wenli walk around on the ground, and Bonnie's mother arrived with some things.
Since she couldn't give birth anytime soon, Bao Ni's mother went home to cook again.
At the beach, Gu Ye and his group boarded the boat with their diving equipment and rowed out to sea.
"Alright, let's stop here. Can any of you swim?"
"We will."
Gu Ye told them to go into the water and try swimming in the sea. He wanted them to get used to the seawater and not be afraid of it.
"Wow, swimming in the sea is so different from swimming in a pool!" Han Bei swam around for a while and felt really good.
At this time, the sea was calm and gentle.
Gu Ye taught them how to breathe and practice underwater communication hand signals. Then, each of them took one person and tried to practice diving.
The seawater was very clear, and the visibility was excellent.
"Uncle, you can see small fish and seaweed at the bottom of the sea!" Gu Xuanyu really saw small fish in the sea, and he felt it was amazing.
"Practice first. Once you're familiar with it, before we go back, put on your diving gear and I'll show you the real underwater world." Gu Ye ruffled Xuan Yu's hair. What a bunch of silly kids.
With Gu Ye's assurance, the boys practiced even more enthusiastically.
Cao Wenli had walked around the hospital several times, her hair soaked with sweat.
"Sister, where's Lin Bo? Does he know I'm about to give birth?"
Cao Wenli missed Lin Bo very much at this moment and hoped that he could be by her side.
"Mom went to find her, she'll be here soon, don't worry, rest if you're tired." Bao Ni herself gave birth quickly and didn't really experience much labor pain.
"Thank you, sister, I understand." Cao Wenli's family wasn't around, so she relied heavily on Bao Ni.
After a while, she felt her stomach hurting badly again. The doctor came to check on her and said it would be over soon, and she should walk around a little longer.
The two started walking back and forth again until a familiar voice came from afar, "Wenli, how are you? I'm here." Lin Bo had received a message from his mother and had taken leave to come over.
"It's alright, it just hurts a little." When Cao Wenli saw Lin Bo, she suddenly felt wronged and wanted to cry.
"You've worked so hard. I'll stay here with you. Sis, you should take a rest."
Lin Bo thanked Bonnie, feeling very reassured with his sister around.
Bao Ni's mother also came over, carrying a lunchbox containing millet porridge and a pot of sweet egg soup.
Cao Wenli ate quite a bit, and soon after, she went into the delivery room.
Over there, Gu Ye saw that the boys were practicing well, so he asked Han Weidong and the others to change their diving equipment. Zheng Jun didn't need it, as they didn't have equipment that was small enough.
