Chapter 240 I Can't Understand

At the beginning of the year, Gu Ye went on a mission to the South China Sea Fleet, where there were small-scale battles with the Vietnamese army.

Bonnie didn't know that Gu Ye had gone to the front lines; she only knew that he had been on a mission for quite some time.

Gu Ye's promotion to brigade commander was a swift and decisive advancement.

Whether she likes it or not, Bonnie has to go with Gu Ye; they're family, they can't be separated.

Bonnie packed a lot of things that she no longer needed, especially the cotton-padded clothes and shoes, since that area is in the south and it's hot all year round.

Bonnie took out the packed cotton-padded clothes again. She didn't need them anymore, so she took them back to her mother and gave them to whoever could wear them. She had to take the rest of the grain with her; her family of four, except for Sanqi, all had large appetites, so the rations were limited.

Bonnie went back to her parents' home to tell them that she might not be back for a year or two. Given the current transportation situation, it would take a long time.

"Going so far? Will she not be able to come back halfway?" Grandpa and Grandma were reluctant to part with Bao Ni. Their Bao Ni had hardly ever left their side in all her years.

"Yes, while I'm away, please take care of yourselves. I'll come back to see you when I have the chance." Bonnie was also reluctant to leave Grandma and the others. She wasn't familiar with that place; she had never been.

No matter how reluctant Bonnie was, she had to leave; Gu Ye was in a hurry to report for duty.

After saying goodbye to those who came to see them off at the dock, Bonnie took the children into the cabin. Fortunately, there was a boat going by, so they didn't have to go back and forth.

After several days of travel, Bonnie and the others finally arrived at the place Gu Ye was going to, the Guangdong base.

After disembarking, soldiers came to meet us; they had dark faces, white teeth, and were easily recognizable.

Gu Ye and his team loaded everything onto the truck. Fortunately, Gu Ye had informed them beforehand that a small truck was coming; otherwise, they wouldn't have been able to fit all the stuff.

The weather in August was nothing but hot.

It's not too far from the dock to the family compound, about a ten-minute drive.

There were also guards at the entrance of the family compound. After registering their information, Gu Ye and his group drove in. The young soldier was Gu Ye's bodyguard, Sun Dong.

The house that Gu Ye received was not small; it was one of the larger houses in the family compound.

This family compound is for officers below the brigade level, while the neighboring family compound is for officers of the division level and above, who live in generals' quarters.

Bonnie and Gu Ye unloaded all the things together, and Sun Dong took the car back first.

Bonnie looked around at their future home: a large brick and tile house with five rooms and side rooms on the left and right. It was quite spacious, with a large yard where they could grow vegetables and fruit trees.

The previous owner must have moved out not long ago; the house is relatively clean with not much dust. The military-issued furniture is still there; I don't know if it was the original furniture that wasn't taken or if it was provided later.

The master bedroom is spacious, with a double bed, wardrobes, and everything else you need; just bring your suitcase and move in.

The house has running water and a flush toilet, which Bonnie likes.

Bonnie found rags and basins, one for each person, and started cleaning. There was a lot of stuff to organize.

"Gu Ye, take a look at the side room first, tidy it up, and move the grain in. That's important." Bao Ni brought all her grain with her. Apart from giving some to her family, the rest was enough to last her for more than a year.

"Okay, take your time. I'll unpack and pack together after I'm done. I'm not starting work until tomorrow, so I'll try to get everything sorted out today."

Bonnie didn't expect anything from him anymore. He went to report for duty on his second day here, and he wouldn't have much time to take care of his family in the future. He was in a new environment and was parachuted in, so the people under him were bound to be resentful.

How to win over his men is Gu Ye's own business; Bonnie can't help him. She'll just have to handle logistics. But even logistics might not be a problem, since she can't cook.

Never mind, let's leave it at that for now.

The family of four had roughly gathered their belongings, and the rest would have to be sorted out little by little.

At noon, I got lunch from the cafeteria. We can't cook at home yet, and we don't have any seasonings or anything.

"Gu Ye, go and register Liu Jiu's school this afternoon. She has to go to school next Monday. Ask if there's any preschool available, and San Qi can go to school too."

Upon hearing that she had to go to school, Sanqi immediately protested, "I don't want to go to school, I want to stay at home, school is dirty."

"The school is full of big kids, it's not dirty."

Bonnie rejected Sanqi's opinion, saying that she had to go to school and would be starting first grade next September.

"Okay, I'll go ask this afternoon. I'll have to go to the military base and find the logistics department to get my household registration, food ration book, and non-staple food ration book sorted out. Otherwise, I won't be able to buy anything."

After washing the dishes, Gu Ye took the materials and left. Bao Ni washed the clothes she had changed out of. Fortunately, they were all summer clothes, so they were easy to wash and dried quickly.

Liu Jiu and San Qi went to sleep, each with their own room, complete with a single bed, desk, and wardrobe. This time, their base was in the city, so they didn't need to take a boat anymore.

There are many people in the residential area and the family compound, so conflicts are bound to arise. Bonnie hopes not to encounter any truly difficult people and can stay quietly for a few years. What can she do on her own? Going to work probably won't lead to any suitable positions.

Half asleep, Bonnie also drifted off to sleep.

When I woke up, Gu Ye still hadn't returned, and I didn't know if the two children were awake yet.

Bonnie went to check on the children's room, but no one was there. Where did they go?

Bonnie knew they couldn't leave the family compound and wouldn't be in danger, but the two children were quite bold in this new environment.

Bonnie closed the door and went out to take a look around the residential compound.

"The new guy?"

Bonnie looked up and saw a woman in her forties coming out from next door. At first glance, her skin was really dark, much darker than her own. Bonnie wondered if she would end up like that; she couldn't stop using the woman's skincare products.
