Chapter 26 Bonnie's Thoughts

Bathed in moonlight, Bao Ni hadn't even arrived at her parents' home yet when she saw several people standing at the door from afar.

"Grandpa, Grandma, Sister-in-law, don't worry, it's nothing serious. My older brother is delivering his fish catch, my dad injured his arm, and my mom is at the hospital with him getting an IV drip."

"Is it serious? Do I need to be hospitalized?" Grandma Lin panicked when she heard that she needed an IV drip.

"Grandma, my dad broke his arm, but it's healed. He's on an IV drip because he was worried about the pain tonight." To keep the old lady from getting anxious, Bao Ni quickly explained, "Grandma, please make some soup for my dad. I'll take him to the hospital later. Is there anything else to eat? I'm hungry."

Bonnie kept Grandma busy to keep her from overthinking.

"Do you know what's going on? Grandpa Lin has been a fisherman all his life, so he's more sensitive to many things than other people."

"I don't know. As soon as the ship arrived, I took my dad to the hospital. I didn't ask." Bonnie knew something was wrong, but she prioritized her father's safety.

That night, Bonnie was constantly running back and forth between the hospital and her parents' home, and she didn't get a chance to doze off until dawn.

"Baby, go home and rest for a while. Your sister-in-law and I will accompany Dad to the hospital outside the island."

The eldest brother and sister-in-law arrived. Bonnie rubbed her face, explained the doctor's instructions, and then left.

She had to go back and check on things. She hadn't been home all night, and Gu Ye hadn't come looking for her; he must be busy too.

People in the family compound were gathered here and there, talking animatedly about something that had happened.

"Hey, you're back, aren't you, Battalion Commander Gu's wife?" The neighbor's sister-in-law asked when she saw Bonnie riding her bike back from outside.

"Yeah, I just got back." Bonnie was in a hurry to get home, so she didn't say much and went inside.

Sure enough, Gu Ye didn't come back all night.

Bonnie finished washing up, changed her clothes, and came out again.

"Sister-in-law, do you know what happened? Everyone's talking about it."

Neighbor Zhang was surprised to see Bonnie out again. She paused for a moment before replying, "I heard that our ships encountered enemy ships and even opened fire."

This is because they encountered a provocation; fishing boats and warships arrived together again.

Bonnie had often seen videos saying that Chinese fishing boats were very brave and dared to charge enemy ships. She never expected that it was true.

There was another video that Bonnie was interested in, which said that in the 1960s and 70s, the seaweed that fishermen planted near the coast would often entangle the propellers of enemy ships that came to provoke them, forcing them to stop.

Bonnie hasn't verified the veracity of these news reports; she just finds them interesting.

But Bonnie really knows how to grow kelp; she's actually done it herself.

When she was in junior high school, Lao Jiang thought she was oblivious to the hardships of life, and against her mother's wishes, he sent her to a seaweed farming base. For an entire summer vacation, she did almost every job at the base.

The person in charge of the base was Lao Jiang's childhood friend, and he was truly open and honest, letting her go through everything, big or small.

She was angry at the time; all her classmates went on trips, but she was forced to work on the farm. So much so that when the uncle explained the origins of artificial kelp cultivation to her, she didn't take it to heart, and didn't even know if artificial kelp cultivation had begun in this era.

Bonnie took this to heart. She had to find something to do instead of being like the other sisters-in-law who spent their days doing housework and gossiping. She was only 19!

Now is not the time to talk about this, and the most turbulent decade is about to begin. We need to be fully prepared for everything, and we can't just do things on a whim.

This isn't the future. If you start your own business and fail, you can always start over.

Bonnie isn't very familiar with the current policies. There are some rules that need to be followed; otherwise, if you get labeled with something for no reason, it will be very difficult to get back on your feet.

Bonnie let her mind wander for a while, then saw Gu Ye walking towards them from a distance. She told Aunt Zhang what was going on and waited for Gu Ye to come over so they could go home together.

"You didn't come home last night?"

"No, something happened. How is Dad? My comrades said the injured one is the captain of the island's first team. I had a mission at the time and couldn't leave." Gu Ye didn't expect his father-in-law to be so bold as to dare to ram an enemy ship!

"It's nothing serious. The arm was set very well. This morning, my older brother and sister-in-law accompanied me to a hospital outside the island for an X-ray to confirm. It's fine, I just need to rest." Bonnie told Gu Ye what the doctor had said earlier to reassure him.

"That's good. Fishing boats haven't been able to go out to sea for a while, so it's a good time to rest." The military had already notified all the fishing teams at the morning meeting.

"That's good too. The temperature is getting lower and lower, and we won't be able to go out to sea much anyway." Winter is the off-season for fishing, so we don't go out to sea as often.

"Have you had breakfast?" Gu Ye had been busy all night and she wondered if he had eaten.

"I ate before I got back. Have you eaten? I'm so sleepy right now. I didn't sleep a wink all night. I didn't feel this way when I was in the army, but I'm sleepy as soon as I got home." Gu Ye thought about how he sometimes only got a few hours of sleep for several days when he was on missions. How come he was so sleepy after only one night?

“You’re always on edge in the army, how could you be sleepy? But once you come back and relax, you’ll naturally be sleepy. I was up all night yesterday too, so let’s catch up on some sleep.” After saying that, Bonnie went out, locked the door, and drew the curtains.

Looking at Bonnie's actions, Gu Ye thought, "She's going to sleep all day!"

"Come on, take off your clothes and you'll feel more comfortable and refreshed when you sleep." Bonnie changed into a tank top and shorts, which were her current pajamas.

Gu Ye swallowed hard. How could he possibly fall asleep?

The two lay down in bed, and Bonnie felt extremely comfortable. She wanted to catch up on her sleep, as she still had to visit her father that night.

"Baoni, are you going to sleep?" Gu Ye felt a little hot.

"Okay, go to sleep, don't overthink it." How could Bonnie not notice the changes in Gu Ye's body?

It's too early in the day, it's not a good thing. Besides, the body needs rest; health is the foundation of everything.

Gu Ye gradually calmed down, and listening to Bao Ni's breathing, he also felt sleepy.

When the two woke up again, it was already getting dark, and they didn't know what time it was.

Gu Ye reached under his pillow and pulled out his watch; it was already four in the afternoon.

"What time is it?" Bonnie asked, perking up.

It's four o'clock.

"Get up, wash up, go see my dad, and grab some dinner on the way." Bonnie stretched and got up to go eat.

Are you going to see your father or go out for dinner?

"We can do both at the same time, we have both." Bao Ni ignored Gu Ye's teasing and quickly washed up, and then it was past mealtime.

When the two arrived at the Lin family home, Grandma had just started cooking. She knew that Lin's father had gone to check on them and there were no problems, so they could stay one more night and go home tomorrow.

Gu Ye helps his grandmother cook. He has come to enjoy cooking. The process of cooking helps him calm down and relax.

Since marrying Lin Baoni, Gu Ye hasn't had insomnia for a long time.

At night, even if the two of them do nothing but cuddle and sleep, Gu Ye can quickly fall into a deep sleep, unlike before when he had difficulty falling asleep and was easily awakened.

Bonnie had no idea that she had become Gu Ye's sleeping pill!
