Chapter 265 The Year Ends

Busy as we were, the day of Lunar New Year's Eve arrived!

Fortunately, Gu Ye didn't have any missions during the Spring Festival this year, so he could spend the holiday peacefully with Bao Ni and her two mothers. Most importantly, someone was cooking for them, so they wouldn't have to eat in the canteen during the Spring Festival, which would have been too miserable.

Since Commander Wang's family moved away, no new family has moved in, so Bao Ni's family only has one neighbor, which is Zhang's family.

They didn't go back to their hometown for the Spring Festival this year either; all six members of their family were together.

Early in the morning, Gu Ye got up and washed yesterday's dirty clothes first.

Yesterday, I did the final deep cleaning and turned off the lights right after I finished, so I didn't have time to shower. When Gu Ye got up this morning, Liu Jiu and San Qi went for their morning exercise. Since San Qi's leg was kicked and fractured, she has been much more enthusiastic about her morning exercise.

Sanqi never wanted to experience that heart-wrenching pain again. Even if she couldn't catch up with her sister, if she practiced hard, at least she could run a little faster. Sanqi figured this out on her own and didn't dare tell Liujiu, afraid of being punished.

Bonnie was on her period and wasn't feeling well, so Gu Ye skipped his morning exercise and was busy washing clothes, cooking, and taking care of everything inside and outside the house.

"Brigade Commander Gu, are you trying to kill us during the New Year holiday?" Political Commissar Xu got up to use the restroom, heard the commotion outside, went out to check, and lo and behold, Brigade Commander Gu was doing laundry.

"What's wrong? Are you going to die? It's the New Year, say something nice." Gu Ye said to Political Commissar Xu while washing clothes.

"What do you think? It's so early in the morning, why aren't you sleeping? You're up washing clothes. If your sister-in-law sees this, she'll start nagging me again." Commissar Xu felt that he wasn't exactly a hands-off manager; he could lend a hand with things at home.

However, Gu Ye, in the half year since he moved here, has thoroughly humiliated the men in the neighborhood. They all take him as an example, and these old women have all sorts of complaints about their husbands.

"Really? Then go ahead and do it. You're home all year round, and you don't even help your wife with chores. Don't you feel guilty? Doesn't your conscience bother you?" Gu Ye and Political Commissar Xu had been working together for a while and had gotten to know each other quite well, so they spoke much more casually.

"Besides, after I finish washing the clothes, I still need to make breakfast, and I also need to cook a few big dishes for lunch. Political Commissar Xu, how many dishes do you plan to cook? Do our two families have the same dishes?" Gu Ye shook the washed clothes and hung them on the clothesline, stretching them hard with his hands to smooth out the wrinkles.

"I think you did this on purpose, letting these old women cause us trouble. You're really cunning!"

Political Commissar Xu can't do anything right; Gu Ye is trying to destroy his spirit!

"You still have the nerve to nag here? You don't do any work yourself, yet you complain that Brother Gu does too much. I've done so much that you guys don't do anything and have become lazy." Sister-in-law Zhang had appeared out of nowhere and had probably been standing there listening for a while, getting angrier and angrier as she listened.

"Xu Yang, Xu Tao, get up and get to work! If you keep sleeping, the sun will be high in the sky!" Aunt Zhang yelled, startling Political Commissar Xu.

"Mom, the sun hasn't risen yet, why are you up so early?" Xu Yang and Xu Tao, still sleepy, came out after being woken up.

"We can't work before the sun comes out. You three need to wash yesterday's dirty clothes and stuff. I still have to make breakfast and prepare the New Year's Eve dinner." Aunt Zhang was really too busy to wash the dirty clothes.

In previous years, she would have waited until after dinner to prepare the sumptuous New Year's Eve dinner before washing the dishes. However, with Commander Gu setting an example, she didn't want to do everything herself.

The three men couldn't refuse even if they didn't want to; the head of the family was angry, and things were getting serious.

When Liu Jiu and San Qi returned from their morning exercise, they saw Uncle Xu from next door washing clothes with his two sons. Uncle Xu's older son kept glancing into their yard with a reproachful expression.

"Brother Xu, what's with that expression? You're so unwilling to do this. When Auntie comes in a bit, I'll tell her you're not doing this willingly, and you're not washing properly. I can see that dirty spot; you didn't wash it clean." Before Liu Jiu could even say anything, San Qi, perched on the wall, launched into a tirade.

Xu Yang looked at the little boy perched on the wall. He was quite cute, but why did he say something so unpleasant?

“Sanqi, filing a complaint is not the act of a gentleman; only a petty person would do that.”

Sanqi blinked, looked at Xu Yang, and said something that made Xu Yang so angry he almost fell over.

"Brother Xu Yang, I'm not a gentleman, I'm a villain! I'm only five years old!" she said, blinking her big eyes and looking at Xu Yang with an innocent expression.

"Haha..." Liu Jiu couldn't help but laugh out loud when he saw Xu Yang rolling his eyes.

Sanqi did a good job, as expected of my brother. Liujiu was very happy. She knew that she was not as good with words as Sanqi, and her reaction was not as fast. She only liked to take action.

Xu Tao watched as his brother remained silent after being teased by his best friend, and he secretly smiled, not daring to laugh out loud, his shoulders trembling.

"Liu Jiu and San Qi, they've gone for their morning exercise again." Aunt Zhang finished making breakfast and wanted to see how the three of them were doing after washing up. She happened to see Liu Jiu and San Qi perched on the wall, looking quite adorable, much better than her own brat.

“Auntie, we just got back and saw Brother Xu Yang washing clothes. It was quite a sight. He didn’t seem to know how to do it very well, so we thought we’d teach him. We’ve been washing our own clothes for a long time.” Liu Jiu’s words reignited Zhang’s anger.

She shook out the washed clothes, and not only were they not clean, but there was still a patch that hadn't gotten wet.

"Mom, Mom, I'm washing again. I wasn't fully awake just now, but I'm really awake now." Xu Yang saw his mother's eyes searching the yard. It's the New Year, he couldn't afford to get a beating!
